That is incorrect, but I honestly will not shed a single tear if Ubisoft jumps ship altogether. Piracy is an excuse, one that naive, greedy companies like to hide behind as justification to treat the PC market as shitty as they possibly can. Ubisoft's "Always-on DRM" is one of the worst DRM solutions to ever exist, and the outrage against it has caused many PC gamers (myself included) to swear off Ubisoft products entirely. Ubisoft looks down and/or insults PC gamers at every possible turn, and the last two days are evidence of this.

The PC didn't lose a developer because of piracy. The PC lost a developer because said developer treats their legal, paying customers like absolute scum, AS WELL as assuming every single one of them is a thief, hell-bent on breaking the law.

I'm not really surprised. Most of the people I know torrent and I am sure that a huge amount of people torrent PC games. They sure do lose a ton of money to pirates. A lot. So, yeah. I guess that is what happens.
Because it's totally cool to take things away from the majority because of a minority, right?

Sorry Arab population, 9/11 happened, we're no longer allowing any of you to go on planes anymore.

360 games have been leaked and pirated, better not release games on that system anymore. Same for the PS3.

People have burned DVDs, better not release DVDs anymore.

Lets call it what it is, laziness and scapegoating.

...that blew my mind. With just how foolish it is. I mean, really? Comparing stealing entertainment to stealing to feed one's starving family. Did that really just happen? I get hyperbole and all, but c'mon.

First off, I defy any PC gamer to say they haven't pirated a game before....seriously. It's rife on PC

Secondly, to people bitching about Ubisofts DRM. I think always online DRM is a good thing and heres why:
They want to know that the copy of, say, Assassins Creed you are playing is a legit copy. The old CD key tactic is pretty much useless due to the sheer amount of Keygens floating about the web. Therefore, always online DRM allows them to check that the copy you are playing is legal.
If you made a game that cost a tonne to develop you would want to make sure no one pirated it, right? Well thats what Ubisoft are doing...

Anyone remember the opening BIOS screen from the PlayStation:
Piracy harms consumers as well as developers

Well thats been proven correct I reckon

Piracy as well as PC gamers bitching about Ubisofts apparently disgusting protection of its games has just lost the PC a developer

Give yourselves a hearty pat on the back
Thats bullshit, Ive never pirated a game..and I dont accept the "ohh come on,,I bet you ARE a pirate" as an argument

DRM and pricay seem to be two big problems that make eath other worse..yes piracy sucks but PUNISHING YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS in NOT the right way to go about it, its the fucking stupid way to go about it

PC gamers have to deal with shitty ports, less suport and DRM and now they get told they are "bitching" for being treated badly, I dont buy it

this is all part of the reason I got a console....god help us if all the bullshit starts affecting them (with all this fuss over used games)

Fair enough.

But is it really as bad as comparing illegal-copying with the most notorious and reviled armed robbers and rapists of the high seas, that is: pirates.

Not a single fuck was given. I haven't so much as looked at a Ubisoft game since the inception of their always on DRM and I wasn't a PC gamer until this year. If they feel so strongly about this whole thing without any proof whatsoever, then fuck them. They aren't worthy of my money, nor are they worthy of my bandwidth if I were a pirate.

As I said before, if this is the future of gaming, I have no qualms with simply not playing anymore. I barely play any games these days anyways. Bethesda and Valve still get my money since they actually support PC gamers, and they don't ***** incessantly about pirates. Aside from those two, the rest can burn in hell for all I care.

Not like Ubisoft was ever particularly friendly to PC gamers, what with all the DRM and terrible ports.
But at least this gives me a reason to save some money.

Damn, who will I get my terrible console ports with invasive DRM from now? Oh wait, no where because I have never bought a Ubisoft game for my PC and never plan to. Go away Ubisoft.

Fuck you too Ubi.

I decided yesterday that I'm never buying your stuff again.

Now, I might as well pirate all your stuff.
You treat me like a pirate, I might as well act like one

Well it's gotten significantly easier to pirate console games this generation. You never know, it's likely to go that route on top of used games.

*The following statement is not directed at you*

The ignorance in this thread is mind blowing.

Judging by the reactions in this thread, a lot of people don't pirate. There isn't an efficient way of finding out how many people do it, and it's even more impossible to calculate how many of them would buy the game if they had to, they're just pirating for teh lulz, or any other reason.

Meh, it was pretty easy to pirate games even in the PS1 era. £10 to chip a PS1 and there was a group of guys in the town market who sold pirated games for a fiver each. Sure, you were still paying money (which you weren't with the PC), but drastically less than you would even buying used and in this instance, the money wasn't even going to retailers. It went to a bunch of guys selling stuff out of the back of a truck.

Okay, I know that Piracy is a legitimate problem, but this is not how it should be handled. I'm not saying I know the way to fix it, but I'd rather try than eliminate an entire group of people. I think that this is also Very much overreacting (Ie. Look at Skyrim's Sales: 7 million in two days I think?)
To bad, I liked their games too.

It's okay, I lost faith in ubisoft after their douchebag level of support for Vegas 2. Dumped it in the market, "Here's your game. No, we don't do updates, and no, we don't do troubleshooting." Considering the number of bugs in the game, I felt bad wasting the $10 on that shoddy piece of software. I haven't bought an ubisoft game since. This just solidifies the deal.

Well specifically I mean that torrents and the internet in general has made it easier than before, now making it free as well. Some of the biggest console titles this year were all leaked and torrented well in advance of their official release time.

PC piracy is what people talk about, everyone ignores console piracy either because it occurs less or because people refuse to believe it's possible. But given the nature of the industry right now, I wouldn't be surprised if they started incurring the same DRM methods for PC games on console games.

Wow, this is a passive-aggressive dick move on the part of Ubisoft, but they have a point. The truly scary thing is that this seems to signal an end to big publishers putting out PC games. Still, the best PC game ever IMHO was made by an indie developer (Mount & Blade, developed by Taleworlds), perhaps the departure of the big boys will help foster a renaissance of sorts for PC gaming.

Wow. I made this exact same post yesterday... Ubisoft are becoming predictable.
I know. I thought it was the exact same thread for a second. Especially when I saw your awesome GIF again.
