Ubisoft Making Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell Movies

Assassin's Creed could be interesting...but, personally? I say they they downplay the Desmond part as much as possible. Yea, I know that sounds dumb, but if they want to make an awesome movie, make the medieval assassin killing dudes the focus. Desmond is just there to connect the games, for all I care.

Not sure if I care about the Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell movies, though. Bit of a GR fan, but not sure how that wouldn't just become an overly done modern warfare movie, and Splinter Cell....okay, it would be the Bourne movies, plain and simple. And three of those was just fine.

Assassin's Creed could make a great movie. Though I'm thinking of the Ezio stuff. I really don't care about the Desmond story. Altair could be cool if they gave him just a little personality.
As a promotion to AC2 they actually did make a film which you can download from the XBL marketplace. It is amazing.

Also i've been hoping a splinter cell movie would be made for ages now, especially of the earlier games where the dialogue was witty and clever.

I'm skeptical.
Movies based on games are never very good at all, so I don't know how these ones will be all that different...

Right, a muslim assassin in the 1100's with a personality. Whatever characteristics he had were probably beaten out of him as a child as he was born into the order and trained.

OT: I look forward to an Assassin's Creed movie, as the prequel short to 2 was amazing. It makes me smile just to picture what they could do with a bigger budget.
I don't expect Ezio levels of charisma. Altair as he was in the game would make a boring movie protagonist. He made a pretty boring character (at least he did in the non stabby parts). It would be an action-adventure movie, not a period film. Total historical accuracy is not essential.

I did watch that! I forgot until you mentioned it. It was quite good. It did a very nice job of gearing me up to play the game.

Well I know what 3 movies I will not be seeing when they come out. Seriously good movies are so rare now-a-days. Then again maybe I'm just picky...very picky....Okay picky as hell.

Any one of those would be good movies, just cause they're so easy to make. One's a prince of persia type game (in feel at least), anothers a war flick, and the last is a jason statham flick.

it just wouldnt feel like an accomplishment if any were good, like it really didnt with PoP.

They better do Assassins Creed justice with a movie. A Splinter Cell movie I'm a bit worried they might make it a bit like the Born movies, when they shouldn't. And finally Ghost Recon, umm Hurt Locker?

I wonder how long before they contact Uwe Boll. He loves making bad movies out of video games. It would be perfect!

Seriously though, I have little faith in a video game movie being anywhere close to good. Far too many bad/disappointing ones have been made.

not that they wouldnt make good movies...

but Ive always wondered what the point was, I mean what yould you gain from such a thing? only except you couldnt play it

I mean with a book they are different and even if its as simple as seeing what the charachter look like/ act then thats somthing

it reminds me of the Akira remake, I mean why would you think live action is any better?

I'm scared really. I don't want them to ruin the assassin's creed games by attempting to make a movie out of them, and then having the movie be a complete piece of shit D:

If anything, the plot would have to be a loose adaption. Mesh in some stuff from later games, like Altair's romance with that Templar chick. Cut down on the number of assassinations from the first game, but make the action sequences lengthy and badass. Nothing more than a few glimpses at Desmond are really needed, though he is pretty much necessary to preserve continuity.

I think everyone is only skimming..This is Ubisoft, a company known for making games, not Hollywood. They know how the characters should act, feel, and appeal to the audience, not just throwing someone into a movie with the same outfit and name.

I have faith in Ubisoft, It's Hollywoods game/movie tie-ins that we all know and hate (apart from the Prince of Persia film, that was half decent.)

Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell are based of a series of books anyway so a movie may not be that terrible. Assassin's Creed has an interesting story and an interesting framing device for exploring the historical settings. Might be hard to make people like Desmond as much as Ezio and I don't think anyone will like Altair, except for the extreme badassery, he kinda utterly lacks a personality. Maybe they should just fuck it an only follow Ezio cause he's the most fun.

If they do plan on making an Assassin's Creed mvie, I'll watch it since I like that game over the other two. That is if the movie is rated R and true to the game series.

Seriously, those three? There isn't so much as an idea between them.

I think they're actually trying to make them as forgettable as possible. Easy cash, no possible creative challenge, no risk of a lasting stain of failed ambition.

Can't have a Splinter Cell film without Ironside's voice, and I'm not sure he'd be able to act a live action Sam.
Have him dub every character.

Even the female ones.

OT: Yeah, there was supposedly suppose to be a Splinter Cell movie in 2010.

That. Is. BRILLIANT!!!

We must have him do that.
