Right, that's it, I'm not buying it.

This isn't a boycott, I just don't need that kind of fucking hassle when I play. I'll go play a game that doesn't treat me like a potential criminal.
It's called Pirating, Furb. That's what you do when they expect you to commit a crime.

Escapist, I demand a new Piracy Badge, because I am alive and a gamer therefore I must pirate video games. I'll walk the plank for UBISOFT and if I float I'm guilty, if I drown I'm innocent. If a shark eats me, I was REALY guilty. It's the only way to be sure. Yarr!

Seriously, not even Valve's DRM is that draconian.

Bahaha. Another blow to Australia right here. You know they've still got dodgy connections and quota restrictions as standard right? And half the country is still on dial-up. Heck, a very large portion of Australian PC gamers who pay for their games are bored-as-shit FIFO workers with laptops and no internets.

Whether this ultimately affects me or not, I'm actually laughing too hard to care.

Wow. This actually makes me MORE likely to pirate this than not. /wrists. That's like selling a game that in order to play you have to insert your penis into a cigar cutter. Sure MOST of the time your fine but the time it's not it sure as shit isn't going to be.

Well i'm looking forward to seeing how much this game is going to be brought against how much this game is going to be pirated.

I don't really mind DRM as long as its minor (such as putting in a CD key or so on) or even the creative kind like this:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.139753-Arkham-Asylum-Pirates-Get-a-Gimpy-Batman#3137572

But this is retarded. Its just...theres no other words I can think of other than retarded.

I wont be surprised if the fully working pirated version comes out a week early. And I don't think it will be piracy that kills the PC market but the measures taken against it.

I had 65$ laid out for Assassins Creed 2.

Well, fuck that, off to the Torrents now.
I don't understand why you (or anyone for that matter) would do this. I suppose you could be making a point, but how is piracy the answer? Is the game THAT good that you MUST play it?

I read all these posts where people say they are now going to pirate XYZ game because of DRM. To me, that makes about as much sense as saying: "That hotdog tastes like shit! I'm not paying $2 for that! I'll just steal it, that will teach them!"

The end result is you still desire the product they produced thus giving it (and consequently the DRM) value. They are banking on "enough" people not being able to pirate the game successfully, and breaking down and buying it anyway because all of there friends are playing it. So the more people pirate a game, the harder they will try to put in DRM, especially batshit crazy paranoid schizophrenic game publishers like UBISOFT who think everyone is a pirate after their lucky charms when the reality is closer to being that their games are not as great as they envision them to be and they just need to lower their expectations a tad.

All they're doing is encouraging people to pirate it.

You can't make a game unpiratable these days, so you shouldn't piss of those who actually want to pay for it.

Yeah! We should boycott the game! That ALWAYS works.
Seeing as how nobody actually boycotts shit, your sarcasm seems clueless.

This sucks and it is a cycle

1 DEV?S (develops Fear of piracy)

2 DRM releced

3 gamers pissed game sells shit

4 DEV?s oh no pirates got to it (shit sales)

5 More restrictive DRM released

Repeat form 4 a few times

Developers say fuck it and stick to consoles

PC gaming dies

Welp, that's it then. No more Ubisoft games for me.
I stopped playing Ubisoft games after Rayman Raving Rabbids. I knew something like this will eventually happen.

I find it quite clever that Ubisoft would actually go and say this out loud. It's not like most crackers have a bloody superiority complex and whenever a developer goes off to make their game pirate proof, the crack-heads will just ignore it- OH WAIT.

Its stories like that that make me glad I'm a console gamer. If Microsoft/Sony ever did something this idiotic, I would quit video games all together. The OP was right this is absolutely inexcuseable.

This will make so many people boycott Ubisoft. I mean, people boycotted Valve just for releasing a game too soon *cough*couldnttheydothatwithep3*cough*, but Ubisoft are now showing just what a bunch of assholes they really are.

Well screw them sideways with a poleaxe (which is neither possible nor sanitary). I was actually looking forward to Assassin's Creed 2, but there is no way in hell I'll be buying it, or any other Ubisoft title, until they remove their heads from their collective rectums and drop this absurd DRM approach.

Please please please please please do not pirate this game now fellow irate PC gamers - all you will accomplish is providing the painfully stupid suits making these retarded decisions with further ammo for their nonsensical and entirely misguided "war on piracy" (that only impacts paying customers). They deserve to see a sharp and dramatic drop in ALL interest for the PC versions of their games - if you want to send them a message, pretend Ubisoft no longer exists at all. Don't buy anything they release on the PC, and don't buy the console versions either - they need to learn that pissing off their paying customers hurts them across the board, and making up for lost sales in one segment via increased sales in another doesn't sting enough. Get angry - they just gave you a giant upraised middle finger - it's time to get spiteful and vindictive!

Ubisoft, you are officially dead to me now.

Actually, pirating does something.

...Remember Spore? Few millions of downloaded copies mean more than some copies NOT sold.

Copies sold in small amount = game was bad.
Thousands or millions of pirated copies = game is most likely good, there is something REALLY turning people off from buying the game.

The point he was making was that gamers have a terrible track record of actually forcing changes. Although to be fair the outcry against DRM usually does produce a result. Boycotting? Not so much.
