Wait... You can watch the Iplayer without paying a license fee? They really do make life complicated...

I had to write to them about 3 times before they accepted my story, and then still kept threatening me about 4 more times.
After that, they gave up.

To be honest, I only got the TV because I have no other way of playing any console whatsoever.
I'd love to see if the Wii's 480p output is any good, but I don't have a display that'll do the trick. (my TV cost me £30).
Also, I still own an N64, where composite is the only option.

Hmm... I'm gonna look into that Iplayer thing, since the Wii just got a dedicated Iplayer channel. - I honestly didn't consider it, given that at one point they came up with the though of licensing every single PC in the country because you could get some programs online...

I do so love the ambiguous phrasing of the TV licensing department works out.
you must pay the TV licensing fee if you watch tv as it is broadcast
Meaning what exactly?

Oh, how I long for the days I was in Australia, where this whole idiocy doesn't apply, and 'free to air' TV does in fact mean 'free'.
Yeah, the whole TV licensing thing is one giant cluster-fuck of confusing capitalist, socialist, authoritarian and free market ideals and ideologies. Hell any thesis of political ideologies can be blown out of the water by just mentioning the BBC as an example for the incredible contradictions seen in it's structure, funding and hierarchy.

I always wished the four BBC channels could become like HBO, that is you pay for watching JUST them.

Hell, they could charge the same amount. I do wonder if people would still pay £140 per year just for the BBC or if the BBC would be force to up it's game a bit and not resort to taking up TWO FUCKING HOURS of prime time television with Strictly Come-bloody-Dancing.

Of course, technologically it would be one giant cluster-fuck to get this implemented with broadcast telly, we just went through a digital switch-over so any chance to implement a system like that is long gone. And the BBC is already short on funds just running 4 channels (2 of which are turned off for most of the time) and they get £4 billion per year for the licence fee alone, not to mention all the revenue in DVD sales and overseas broadcast deals and even local re-broadcasts on channels like Dave.

But considering the BBC iPlayer, this seems to be an effort by the BBC to completely subvert the Licence Fee system and force the government into some sort of method of general taxation to pay for the BBC, either an ISP tax (fun fun fun...) or more likely a household tax that would probably be heavily means adjusted because fuck it, this is a democracy and there are more poor people than rich people.

Don't watch iPlayer on your Wii, literally ANY laptop or Desktop PC can offer a superior experience, especially if you are using component. Unless it's some computer from the mid 90's.

Actually, if you say you still use your N64, well rejoice, the Gamecube Component cable is identical as the one for the N64. So you could use a VGA box and plug it into any computer monitor.

And don't think you need a HDTV to play an Xbox 360 or PS3. The Xbox 360 can be played using a VGA cable (sold separately) to play in full HD on any compatible monitor and most projectors even. Getting HD on the PS3 is a doddle now, I'm getting a 1080p computer monitor with HDMI input for Christmas and it only costs around £130 new. It's only 24 inch but good enough for viewing blu-ray movies at desktop sitting distance (within 3 feet).

To be honest, I have no plans at all of ever owning a TV. I'll just capture any broadcast TV via my PS3/PC and play on my HD rated computer monitor. Seriously, though 1080p computer monitors are only 10 inches smaller diameter than HDTVs and don't have built in speakers, HDTVs regularly cost 10x as much.

Hmmm. I'm a bit torn about continuing this conversation, since it has little to do with the topic.

In any event, I got my TV prior to having any other alternatives.
I only have a laptop, so that rules out using it to display anything. (I recently found a way around that, but the latency is pretty high for realtime usage, such as games.)

The iplayer on PC may well be better overall, but the Wii's dedicated version is surprisingly good as long as you don't need HD.
Also, booting a wii takes less than 1/4 the time it takes to boot my PC, even considering I use hybernation most of the time.

It's really just what you already have that determines this.
At the time, I got the TV, I had a choice between trying to get some kind of display device that could handle an N64 and (later on), a Wii.
The cheapest option was quite simply, a second hand TV.
The next cheapest solution would have costed about 3 times as much, and been a smaller display to boot. (Not to mention it likely wouldn't have even been a particularly good quality one, at that price range.)

So, it's really just what you make of it at the time.

And I'm gonna have to disagree on the game being a better fit on the PS3/360, as part of what No More Heroes great was how well the motion controls were integrated into the combat. Taking that away would make the game less fun to play for sure. And I can't see this game picking up another publisher. Games have to sell way more on the 360/PS3 to make a profit than they do on the Wii, and No More Heroes isn't exactly a game made for mainstream audiences.
I don't know that it would be a better fit necessarily (that would depend on how well the controls are adapted, and really, the motion sensitive parts were only one bit out of the whole thing), but it certainly never hurts to expand your audience. Seeing as how Suda 51 makes some really experimental games, gaining popularity on other consoles couldn't be a bad idea. I'd really like to see him continue to make more games.

Until he sells out, obviously.

the only reason the GOOD consoles won't get it is because Nintendo is paying Ubisoft more to NOT publish a 360/PS3 version than they would get if they DID make one

that, or they're being threatened.
