Ubisoft should probably clarify that they mean "everyone who makes 80,000 a year and is in no danger of ever getting fired". It's funny how out of touch with reality they are, when the economy is in this state. If by 2013 3DTV's cost about 600$ and each pair of glasses about 40$, then SOME peope will make a move, but still not so many, and pretty much noone who already owns a HDTV but is not a hardcore gamer.

We still have a 21 year old, 20" tube tv my parents got as a wedding present in use, I game on that thing. Otherwise unless someone gives us a 3d TV we will never have one.

Dear Ubisoft,

I will own a 3D TV when you buy me one. I hate to break it to you, but I do not even own an HDTV.

K Thanks,
Vanity

Tell you what, Ubisoft douchebag... I'll get a 3D tv when I can fit it into the trunk of my flying car!

I just witnessed someone buying a VHS tape yesterday in a store... I was shocked that anyone still had any of those! We had VHS and Betamax, and DVD blew that old tech out of the water in under five years. There hasn't been much entertainment technology that has had such a dramatic change in the landscape since then. Sure, people will talk about how Blu-Ray is so great, but the price is still too inhibitive to keep the public at large from investing. At this point in the general global economy, 3D televisions will be one of those things that will hang on for a while until either the economy improves or something new (and better) comes along that makes people laugh at how stupid 3D will be by then.

I almost want to blame this on Nintendo screwing people over with the Virtual Boy. I really want to believe that soured people to the whole 3D experience... but people want to recreate the feeling they get in those IMAX theaters at home, and right now that just isn't possible. 3D is a fad from the 70s that just isn't going to fly. Bring on the damn holograms already!

I don't own a television. Don't miss it. I actually walked past a 3D television display and the only thing I noticed is that the picture is for outright crap without whatever eyegear you were supposed to be wearing. Nope. Probably won't buy one within the next 3 years. Or 30.

To be fair the prices will have plummeted by then
Purely because there will be a surplus in supply, but very little demand.

As for my opinion on the thing... I was one of those who went to watch Avatar for the 3D experience and all I got out of it was an awesome 1st half and a bloody headache during the rest of it. So yeah... 3D isn't my thing and every time I watch a promising movie trailer and hear it end with "NOW IN EYE-POPPING 3D", I get an instant migraine (¬_¬).

So no 3D TV for me, since my 20" LCD PC monitor is good enough.

Yeah, I'm here to say that Ubisoft is wrong. I'm most definitely not getting a 3DTV if this is the current tech it uses, and since that's at least one person who won't have one, that means "everyone" will not have one.

I wonder if UbiSoft also thinks people will warm up to their draconian DRM scheme by 2013. I'm guessing "no" to both. Doesn't even make any sense to make a claim that within 2.5 years people are going to A) want a 3D TV, B) Afford a 3D TV or C) the price of a 3D TV is going to come down considerably. It took almost 2 decades for the price of an HDTV to come down to the point where anyone could afford it, and that's not even counting the fact that the economy is still pretty much shit. Furthermore, what in the world is UbiSoft's horse in this race anyway? It hasn't exactly been proven that making a game that supports 3D glasses or whatever automatically equals sales. Hell I haven't even seen word one about any game topping sales charts because it had 3D support. You know how many games I own that have this feature? ONE. And that was Trackmania Nations Forever...which was a free game.

Sure, some will love it, but for most consumers it was fun for a few hours and then it was just forgotten about.
That's the Wii in a nutshell.
Yeah because that's totally what this news story was about. No wait, it wasn't.

Wow, do they expect me to pull the money for one of these out of my arse? I'm perfecly happy with my current HDTV that doesn't give me eye strain when i like to use it.

Please stop, 3D isn't great, it isn't immersive, it's crap. So long as they keep making games and movies in "2D" then i'm happy. Let all the weirdo's have their gimmicks.
I wanted to say something about this 3D stuff as well but you said it best!!
