While I wouldn't be surprised/I wouldn't care so much if 3D TVs do become the norm, 2013 is waaayyyy too early to say that 3D TVs will be standard in every home. Maybe 2020, though that may be a stretch.

Either way, I don't care about anything hardware coming from Ubisoft. Talk to me when you get your own hardware division instead of making "Imagine!" games

I paid $5000 for laser eye surgery so that I wouldn't have to wear glasses while I watch TV... Now I'm supposed to pay close to $5000 so that I can watch TV with glasses? No thank you.

No. Seriously no. Not even considering it. Cost is way too high, 3D is an expensive and massively overrated gimmick that will hopefully die out before 2013. I remember the good ol' days when movies were about STORY and CHARACTER. Not these pathetic gimmicks, and I'm only 15!

3D television that requires glasses is going to fail. Period.

People lose their car keys. Do you think anyone is going to keep track on those glasses? Lost or broken, you'll wind up with a three thousand dollar regular flat TV at the end of the day.

3D TV is this generation's DIVIX [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIVX_%28Digital_Video_Express%29]

Ubisoft and its predictions... We all know their DRM's fiasco. They should just STFU and make games.

3D is a stupid gimic
it is, has been, and always will be
it needs to end

every few years there is a movie that tries out 3D and does well
then for a few months afterwards its the thing to do
and its always looked like shit
and guess what?
it still does

Personally this thing is quite silly because I don't understand what the big fuzz is about 3D tv's well 3DS is a completely rational.
Why? Because it's handheld and you don't need glasses and when I look at 3D (in a cinema or TV obviously).
Then I only see the image like pop a little bit out of the screen *Whoop* and I have to spend more money for that..Excellent.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft said same thing back in 1995. for Virtual Boy... Shut up and keep making games, Ubi!

Ubisoft Predicts 3D TV For Everyone By 2013

Ubisoft [http://www.ubi.com] has boldly predicted that 3D television will be in "everyone's living room" by the end of 2013.

I'm an "anything can happen" kind of guy so I don't normally call out predictions for the future as hopelessly stupid, but in this case I'm going to make an exception. Let's cut to the chase: "We were the first publisher to create a proper 3D game with Eurogamer [http://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Pc/dp/B002EZOQZ4/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278692669&sr=1-11].

"The truth is I think it is a technology that's coming. We can't ignore it," he continued. "It'll start slowly this year. But like HDTV I wouldn't rule out the fact that this will be installed in everyone's living room in three year's time, and for us to be in a position to have content that could really look absolutely amazing in 3D."

Seriously? Murray, do you have any idea how much this stuff costs? A 46-inch Samsung at Best Buy [http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+46%22+Class+/+1080p+/+240Hz+/+3D+LED-LCD+HDTV/9784693.p?id=1218173775280&skuId=9784693&st=3d%20tv&contract_desc=null] is currently on sale for $2199, with a regular retail of $2799. Do you want a pair of 3D glasses with that, so you can actually watch things in 3D? That'll be another $200, please. Oh, you have a wife and children? Some friends, too? You're not going to make them pay for their own glasses, are you? Because that's 200 bucks each, pal. Hope you've finished paying for that LCD flat panel we talked you into last year.

"For the naysayers, if you like, I would say, 'Just watch this space', because when you have global corporations like Sony pushing 3D as hard as they possibly can, Sky, equally, showcasing 3D content on TV, I believe it will become a much more important part of consumer electronics than a lot of people believe," Pannel added.

Sorry, Ubi, but I'm saying "nay" on this one.

You are right that Ubisoft is wrong about this prediction. Saying that everyone will have a 3D TV in their living room in three years' time is optimistic at best and downright delusional at worst. It will probably take a lot longer then that for the technology to become affordable enough for the majority of people to actually purchase.

Having said that, I do, however, think that 3D just might have a mainstream future (even if not that soon). This is primarily thanks to Nintendo's approach on the matter. By adopting the technology on more affordable handhelds first, it will eventually create demand to see such technology elsewhere, like...oh, I don't know....television sets, for example? =)

But as I said, Ubisoft's prediction is still unrealistic. Five, six years maybe....but three? No chance.

I find 3D to be thoroughly unimpressive to the point that I won't see a movie in theaters if it's only presented in 3D. It adds nothing to the experience and the cost and inconvenience are far too great for me to consider buying a 3D television.

With that said, I like Nintendo's approach. I'm psyched for the 3DS, but still not big on the 3D. See, I like the software they're showing off, but unless I find 3D to be a more significant shift for gaming than it is for film I'm likely to keep it turned off.

Utterly agree with you on this one - short of Ubisoft buying everyone a 3D TV, this ain't gonna happen by that time scale.

Also, they need to make the technology work for a) people with glasses already, and b) people who don't want to get crippling headaches every time they watch their 3D TV.

"And we'll also have flying cars by the year 2000, purely because they're a fuckton less efficient than wheels! THAT MAKES MEH RIGHT"
