Ubisoft Predicts 3D TV For Everyone By 2013

The level of raw disconnect here is staggering and insulting; this smacks of middle-upper class ignorance.

Newsflash: the economy is still in the shitter. People don't have money to spend on 3D nonsense, which is precisely what this technology is at this point. These sets (as well as the mandatory glasses) are going to have come down 80% or more from retail before the average joe starts seriously considering a purchase, and that's only after major cable networks start airing compelling 3D content.

Alternatively, this guy might just be a tool of the electronics industry. I've said it before: they're scared collectively shitless by the idea that people might be perfectly satisfied with HD television for 10+ years. They need to manufacture a new technology to sell us wildly overpriced sets to replace the perfectly functional ones we just bought. I'm sure 3D sounded brilliant, what with the extra expense (read: revenue) generated by the glasses. After all, ten people watching one television is sort of communist; they should each have to pay for the pleasure, really. Anyways... they've latched onto nothing more than a gimmick. It's not an objective improvement over traditional HD television in the slightest. There's zero reason we, as a culture, should accept this unnecessary technology turnover until they come back with something legitimately revolutionary. As opposed to, you know, a dopey parlor trick lifted from the fucking 50's.

Yay! Ubisoft is buying everyone on the planet a 3D capable TV, a 3D Blu-Ray player and 10 pairs of the 3D glasses to go along with it! All is forgiven for the DRM fiasco Uncle Ubi!

Now thats sarcasm.

Yeah, guess what Ubisoft? No one in my house has a fucking HDTV yet, and my parents don't care for your new fangled shit and are still using twenty year old TVs that for whatever reason still work. So your prediction is very pompous and arrogant statement.
My old TV is thirty years old. My GRAN said it was getting a little old for her, so she gave it to me. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a little label on it saying *Colour television prototype 1.2*

And Ubisoft are fools, and what's more, they are lying fools. I actually don't like this whole 3-D thing, it is the next step, but it is being pushed way too fast.

Looks like everyones trying to force it, no matter what :/
Thats sad, if it doesnt work, it doesnt. we tried that whole 3D thing often enough already, but forcing it now from every possible side is stupid as hell. but well, someday we will stop selling 2D TVs, and then we call 3D "successful" ^^

Honestly, I'm surprised how many people seem to think that images in the same number of dimensions that we normally see are somehow a gimmick. It seems inevitable that they'll take over some day.

However, that day isn't today, and it won't be by 2013 either. That's just flat out stupid.
3d will never completely take over. ever. sure it will exist but only as a spectacle. the moment 3d is common place it loses its edge because its "rarity" made it special. in other words, 3d is the real life ghastly gibus (hat from tf2). it used to be loved in small doses, but the moment it went big everyone hated it.
Umm... reality is 3D. Sure, anything that requires goofy glasses is automatically a gimmick, and anything that's likely to cost three or four thousand dollars by the time you get the TV and glasses is certainly not going to catch on with most people, but someday there will be affordable 3D that doesn't require glasses, and when that happens there will be no point to restricting anything to 2D.

It will happen, it's just unlikely to happen this decade, let alone by 2013.
ugh. 3d has been given 3 chances and failed horribly. 3d goes into stasis every time the fad dies, and will continue to do the same long after we are gone. people will not go to 3d because we have the ability. they need a REASON. unless 3d has some sort of benefit no one will buy it. this is the same reason HD hasn't completely replaced regular TV. there is no point. as long as it does the basic, people leave out the optional unless they are douches who must have the most expensive everything. 3d relies completely on the wow factor, and without that 3d is nothing and will die.
3D has died out before because it's inconvenient and expensive and it likely will this time as well, but if you don't see how 3D is inherently superior you probably need to spend less time staring at a flat screen.

Perhaps I'll consider buying one the day after never. 3D is interesting but defiantly not worth buying into.

Many people still don't have HDTVs. How big of a stretch is it for them to buy a 3D TV when it's time to get a new set? 3D is expensive now, but so was HD when it was at the level of market penetration that 3D is currently.

Way to generalise.

3D will never even get to the level of HDTV's popularity, for a multitude of reasons.

-It doesn't improve anything, it just adds a gimmick, which doesn't add to the enjoyment, just a random spectacle.

-It requires glasses, and will do for at least a few more years, if not longer. Due to the technology, current 3D tech has been known to cause headaches, dizziness and motion sickness.

-HD improved existing technology and added some minor additions, 3D is adding nothing but a bigger pricetag.

-Moreover, only the blind can't watch regular television/films. People with poor vision, people who require glasses, and people who are blind in one eye etc. can't watch 3D. That is a surprisingly large portion of the market.

Really Ubi baby? You want me to buy a two THOUSAND dollar T.V or display, just to play your "immersive" games? Glasses that you almost NEVER forget on the bridge of your nose? Buy something that doesn't even come CLOSE to V.R, and was more of a fad of the 50s and 80s, and the technology used then is almost the same as it was back THEN? Sure Ubi baby, i'll buy the same crack you buy, give it a whirl. After all, if you expect everyone else to believe your pipe dream, this has to be good stuff yes?

My mom only has a flatscreen because she got it for free. It's 480p, 24 inches. It's quite likely that by 2013, everyone in America will want a 3D TV. However, I highly doubt everyone will have one by then.

guess what Ubisoft?

3D is not as immersive as people crack it up to be. 3d-TVs are just sniffing in your wallets

I hereby declare that this is more likely to happen by 2013 ( http://www.buddhatrance.com/will-ascension-happen-in-2013 ) then 3D TVs in every other household.

I have a few friends that went to buy 3D tvs' but after getting hands on with them, decided against it. It just isn't the same as what you've experienced in the cinemas, which use polarised light and more basic glasses. The glasses you get with 3D tvs' use a alternating flicker to deceive the eyes/brain into seeing the image as 3D, it's this flickering that causes some people to get headaches and experience disorientation after use. They will never be in 'every home' ever, but they will be a successful product non the less.
