I seemed to be confused by some people's thoughts in this thread...
I doubt "Americans" as a whole said "we do not want this game".
I mean, was there a vote cast? Guess I missed the announcement...
As near as I can tell Ubisoft saw alot of people on the internet typing in English go "this is a joke, right?" and said "Well, fine. If Americans are getting offended than we won't give it to you." (Because if a person on the internet types in English, he's American, right? /sarcasm)

Ubisoft, that wasn't us getting offended. That was us ripping the trailer to shreds for being so ridiculously awful.

Not necessarily, I've seen video games carried in Adult stores (Sex shops, etc.) that were AO. It actually makes it a bit easier to ensure kids aren't going to walk in and find them.
While you're quite right, there are some things wrong with that idea.
How common are such stores, and as such, how well would the game sell?

Because in the end, this is still all about money. ^^
This is true but it at least gives the option for people without modified systems to actually play the game. I really dislike the Wii but I think this is actually a cool collection of minigames.

Wait it is too much for NA but Australia is getting it?
My thoughts exactly.

Do people realize that the American public didn't actually decide this? And that not all of us are this conservative? Oh well. It's a little too late to curb the sweeping generalizations now I guess.

That being said, I wonder if I could import this. Hmmmm...

From what I read about it on Ubisoft's site, it seemed fairly tame. When I saw that the commercial had been pulled, I knew that meant it wasn't coming to the US. I thought it looked kinda goofy, so I looked into an import copy and a Wii Freeloader disc, but sadly, my "Firmware" is too high to use it. Sigh, I will never see this game over here. I hate how conservative my country has gotten/is- soon I will be forced to wear a long skirt since pants are not feminine. They will take away my shoes and tell me to get in the kitchen. I don't know what the hell to do in there besides eat!!

Because God forbid we have sexy games around here while the children are playing violent blood-splatter games. Oh no.

Welcome to the US of A. Founded on Puritan ideals and violence. Lots, and lots of violence.

People in charge tend to forget what they were fighting for a teenagers and young adults 30 years ago. In 20 years, I'll forget that I fought for gaming to not be restricted, and I'll be fighting against the new thing "corrupting our youth". Or I'll be high as a kite, completely ignoring it. I haven't decided yet.

bwahahahaha. That's surely someone's early-released april fools joke?

If not: Are american's really so repressed that this game would cause an outrage? Or even be better than fracking aweful?

Sigh. the world we live in.
Personally, I, an American, wasn't outraged. I just thought this looked really, really dumb.

Not surprised that it made some people flip their shit though. Americans can be really stupid.

This is silly. Americans aren't against it because it's "naughty", we're against it because it looks horrible. It shouldn't be released anywhere, let alone in the US.
Here, here!

Honestly, even if this wasn't released in the US, I think I'd gladly buy Barbie Horse Adventures first. At least some women are into that sort of thing. I mean, god damn, watching that trailer was just painful.

Yeah tell me about, today I turn 36 and have to admit I'm a bit of a out cast omoung parents mostly due to the fact I know how i felt as a teen, and that most people i grew up with turn into their parents... basically forget what their parents "failed" at and they repeat it...

Ok...now that I've actually SEEN the trailer, it doesn't look worth it. I've seen sexier wii movements in Wii Fit. The trailer is so forced and so goofy it's laughable. I love you Ubisoft, I really do, but this one's a no go. The only demographic this might be good for are sexually repressed adults who have forgotten how to loosen up...oh my god, maybe this SHOULD come to America!

So wait. Some people made fun of their silly game, and Ubisoft had such a pissy fit over it that they aren't going to release it in an entire region? Over reacting much?

It's perfectly okay for children to have millions of porn videos at their fingertips with the use of the internet, but if a video game ON THE WII NO LESS involves people spanking each other "OH LORDY BILLY ADVERT YOUR EYES OOOOHHHHHH!!!"

This is just the kind of juvenile pervertedness that would sell great in America. Hang on i want to make fun of overly white parents some more.

"Well, I don't think my son Jimmy should be playing a video game where people spank each other. It could give him heterosexual thoughts. I have a RIGHT to MY OPINION!"

"I don't like the idea of my children thinking that sex can be fun in any way!"

"Video games are trying to change the way I raise MY children!"

"We banned mistletoes because my husband likes to drink too much and make out with younger, prettier women."

"Just because I make passionate love to the gardener doesn't mean they can make games that involve sexual themes, even though the responsibility of what children play falls into the lap of the parent. I like to be lazy and it's much easier if the game is just not sold anywhere in my continent."

Well screw you, middle class white people. Go back to thinking Leave it to Beaver is "Gee golly swell!"*

Poster is not racist. Poster is referring to people who act a certain way, regardless of racial background.

This is interesting. The US gets Mortal Kombat but not Wii Dare (or whatever it's called). In Australia Mortal Kombat has been refused classification but the Wii game has been green-lighted. I wonder if that says something about the two cultures?

US: Home of the largest porn industry, and one of the places you can find porn conventions.

Stop lumping everyone together because you feel like making a few snap judgments. There was the same stupid out cry in Europe as well. Especially in the UK.
You actually just helped prove my point. The US's stance on sexuality is so totally contradictory: on one side, we do indeed have a huge and lucrative pornographic industry, but on the other, people freaked out over the sex scenes in Mass Effect. The problem I have with America isn't prudishness, but rather indecision about whether media should or shouldn't include sex, and to what degree. Also, I'd like to be clear that I'm not lumping every single citizen of the US into this, but rather commenting on the outlook of society as a whole (i.e. the average viewpoint of all of the citizens combined). Besides, these aren't snap judgments. I've been befuddled by sexuality in the United States for a LONG time now.

All of that said, it may be true that there was the same outcry elsewhere, but the game is still on track for release outside of North America (meaning that the outcry wasn't significant to hamper plans for release in other places).
No you watched a few news programs tell people that people where breaking out over sex scenes in Mass Effect, and you saw news stories about those reports, but did you ever meet anyone before those aired that was up in arms? Did you meet anyone after that really gave a shit? Probably not. This isn't to say some people didn't flip, but your average person didn't give a shit.

Sexuality figures big in all forms of media, from books to movies, to well you get the idea. Ubisoft seems to be under the impression people actually give a shit as well.
