BUT SIR! You forget that USC has a security staff with special permission to patrol campus and surrounding neighborhoods! It is, in fact, quite safer to be wandering around USC's adjaceant neighborhoods at night than UCLA's neighborhoods (which rely on the local police force)!
A while back, when some USC kids tried to deface our mascot, they somehow caught the attention of the UCLA police. The students high-tailed it off campus, just barely managing to get away. They stopped after they left the UCLA campus boundary, because they thought the UCLA security was analogous to the USC security and had no jurisdiction outside of the campus. No such luck... the UCLA police simply crossed the boundary and arrested the students.
Long story short: UCLA security = police officers = they actually have the authority and jurisdiction neccessary to be effective at their job
I would much rather have an effectively trained actual police officer on my side then a rent-a-cop any day. No offense my good sir. [sub]but there is a thing at UCLA called the "rape trail". I wonder why...[/sub]
