Is Killing Floor a standard Zombie-Survival FPS, or is it a Zombie-Survival FPS/RPG, because of the perk system? Are cookies better with milk, or without? Did you accidentally the whole thing?

Some questions have no answer, or at least, no answer that we should struggle to look for.

"I couldn't play World of Warcraft, the graphics are just too simple."
-My Ex; after finding out I started to play WoW.

That drove me insane. This guy also compares EVERY game that he sees to Halo. It doesn't matter, RPG, platformer or whatever. It's always whatever game that I am playing at the time vs. Halo. (He is also the reason I can't play Halo. Ha.)

My biggest complaint is from a friend of mine, who is entirely of the opinion everything after the Gamecube is shit on a crusty roll, no matter how you look at it. What makes it bad is that he's quite an intelligent fellow, hej ust gets these ideas in his head and refuses any and all points that contribute otherwise for the sake of his argument. I don't let it bother me too much though, aside from hearing it, because it's really his loss if he doesn't want to give these games a chance.

They're all first person shooters I guess, but for the most part they are really different.

The most uninformed comment I have heard about video games has to be:
"You play WoW? You must have no life, play nothing but WoW, and dedicate your whole EXISTENCE to playing WoW!!!"
- The same can be said about *ahem* EVERY OTHER FUCKING VIDEO GAME FANATIC.
Hey, glad to see I'm not the only person that's dealt with that bullshit.
I used to play WoW alot, and my friends would facepalm everytime they wanted to hang out (which fell on every single tuesday/thursday night at 8:30 when I was supposed to raid) and say WoW took over my life, but they never said that when I played Oblivion, Windwaker, Twilight Princess, Half-Life 2, Starcraft 2, Ogre Battle 64, Brawl, .... the list goes on and on.

People who bash WoW seem to think that everyone who plays WoW is attached to their computer and ONLY plays WoW, and that just annoys the shit out of me.
They'll gladly shit-talk WoW players, but they won't shit-talk CoD fanatics, Halo fanatics, Fallout fanatics, and any other game that people really enjoy.
That's because with all those other games you played in your free time. Sure maybe you played them just as much or more, but you didn't set a schedule for it, but in WoW, suddenly you have to be there every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30. It's when you start planning things around your game that you have a problem. This doesn't come up pretty much anywhere but MMOs.

You think that's bad? Last year I had my old roommates tell me I'm gay and have no life because I play RPGs like Dragon Age. Guess what they did for eight hours everyday for seven months? Play Modern Warfare 2 stoned. The hypocrisy...hurts...so...much.

At OP: Any RTS that gets rid of or minimalizes buildings is 'no longer an RTS'.

Of course some games will be very similar. As soon as a game like COD becomes so popular they'll be a long stream of clones that follow.

People acting like WoW (not mmorpg's in general, just the one game) is some kind of plague which spawns anti-social losers that can barely function in society. It's at that point I bring up the fact that alot of my uncles and cousins play, and I used to play before it got too expensive.

I think it would really help fight the all shooters are the same argument if some would stop using the health regeneration method... especially when it doesnt make sense (im looking at you call of duty and bad company). Its possible to make a good shooter without any healing ability at all (see Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter)
For the JRPGs... well the UI is usually is very similar and unless your playing them they do often seem the same. What do you expect

I always get crap from one of my friends when me and my other friend talk about Eve Online. He just starts saying DPS after everything which gets a little annoying (funnily enough he didnt know what DPS was even though hes also a gamer)

While I wouldn't say they are all the same, the all fit a very similar mould to be honest, and frankly there are too many released each year, especially compared to other genres.

[ul]
[li]MAG [/li]
[li]BioShock 2 [/li]
[li]Aliens vs. Predator [/li]
[li]NecroVisioN: Lost Company[/li]
[li]Battlefield: Bad Company 2 [/li]
[li]Operation Wolfsburg [/li]
[li]Metro 2033
[li]Red Steel 2 [/li]
[li]Terror Attack: Project Fateh [/li]
[li]Sniper: Ghost Warrior [/li]
[li]Singularity [/li]
[li]Terrorist Takedown 3 [/li]
[li]Halo Reach [/li]
[li]GoldenEye 007[/li]
[li]Call of Duty: Black Ops[/li]
[/ul]

That's 15, and it's only the ones I could find in a 5min browse of wikipeida.

There were like 3 RTS games released this year, Starcraft 2, C&C4, and Supreme Commander 2 that I can recall.

So when people who aren't into FPS games get bitchy about them, it's because they see them choking out the games they are interested in.

FPS games are of course, all from the same exact perspective. its easy for ignorant people to just say they are all the same.

i think too many people also hate the genre because there are so many FPS games that are modern warfare titles. the point is that they dont PLAY the same way.

A couple days ago I i was arguing with my buddy he then says 'UGH I HATE EVERY FPS THEY'RE ALL THEY SAME' I didn?t understand his argument though of course there all the same it?s a genre if they weren't ''the same '' they wouldn't be called fps ?
Anyways before I go on an unnecessary rant I want to know what's the most uninformed comment you heard someone say about video games (in general)

Ps: sorry for the misleading title if you expected to cut a troll a new one
Well I happen to have an entire thread about it, no harm done, theres no way you could have searched for this title http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.83709-What-is-the-most-rediculous-thing-someone-has-said-to-you-as-a-matter-of-fact-about-a-video-game?page=18

Make him play Timesplitters, Doom 3, HL2 & Episodes, Killing Floor, Bioshock, and Counter-Strike.

I get the feeling he's been on a Call of Duty / Killzone / MoH binge.

Now see, if only they didnt start playing those exact 'mediocre,samey-same' fps's then they would sound just a bit more believable. I had the exact same argument with my friend.

Halo: Reach, Borderlands, Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Fallout: New Vegas, Metro 2033, Team Fortress 2, Bioshock 2, Killing Floor, and Left 4 Dead 2 were all exactly the same as each other. And if you don't believe it, you're a filthy, unwashed heathen who doesn't deserve to be called a gamer.

That all JRPGs are inheirtenly shit and that they should never leave the island they're conceived on.

Strangely, it wasnt from Yahtzee. It was a friend who said that.

Then I showed (forced under penalty of pain and property destruction) him Persona 3 Fes, and persona 4 and he changed his opinion quickly.
I'm not a big fan of JRPGs, but I love the Persona series. Atlus is wonderful. Square Enix, I could probably do without. Though I did enjoy The World Ends With You. The only reason I traded it in is because it drives me crazy when games utilize the touch screen to any significant extent. Give me the option to use the d-pad or give me...a different game <__<

Most games in the last 5 years do follow a very similar pattern, either a super-human space marine fighting some unspeakable evil (See halo). Or its a call of duty clone (ANY FPS), Simply put, If a game sells well, Dev's will copy that game. At this point in time, If you want originality, look to indev's making games like "minecraft", Or broaden your gaming horizon, try genres like RPG, action-RPG, MMORPG and RTS. There are alot of good games set for those styles, like mass effect 3, Cataclysm and The Elder Scrolls: skyrim. All of these games have at least 5X the game length and playability of most FPS's today.

I personally hate the goo modern FPS games have become, Having played all the C.o.D's and many games like them, I do not see why they are so well accepted, but that's just my point of view. As an avid RTS and MMORPG gamer I probably dont feel the same attraction as many do shooting someone in the face. But eh, live and let kill.
I find it strange that you cite the MMORPG and RPG genres as havens of creativity. Last time I checked, half of the MMOs coming out were WoW clones, and RPGs were more or less about a 'chosen one' trying to stop some newly unleashed horde of evil. Not that that's a bad thing (I'm a huge fan of RPGs), but the hypocrisy in those statements is astounding.

My parents used to call every game Nintendo, even when I was playing them on a computer.
