That's because with all those other games you played in your free time. Sure maybe you played them just as much or more, but you didn't set a schedule for it, but in WoW, suddenly you have to be there every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30. It's when you start planning things around your game that you have a problem. This doesn't come up pretty much anywhere but MMOs.Torrasque said:I used to play WoW alot, and my friends would facepalm everytime they wanted to hang out (which fell on every single tuesday/thursday night at 8:30 when I was supposed to raid) and say WoW took over my life, but they never said that when I played Oblivion, Windwaker, Twilight Princess, Half-Life 2, Starcraft 2, Ogre Battle 64, Brawl, .... the list goes on and on.ZeroMachine said:Hey, glad to see I'm not the only person that's dealt with that bullshit.Torrasque said:They're all first person shooters I guess, but for the most part they are really different.
The most uninformed comment I have heard about video games has to be:
"You play WoW? You must have no life, play nothing but WoW, and dedicate your whole EXISTENCE to playing WoW!!!"
- The same can be said about *ahem* EVERY OTHER FUCKING VIDEO GAME FANATIC.
People who bash WoW seem to think that everyone who plays WoW is attached to their computer and ONLY plays WoW, and that just annoys the shit out of me.
They'll gladly shit-talk WoW players, but they won't shit-talk CoD fanatics, Halo fanatics, Fallout fanatics, and any other game that people really enjoy.
You think that's bad? Last year I had my old roommates tell me I'm gay and have no life because I play RPGs like Dragon Age. Guess what they did for eight hours everyday for seven months? Play Modern Warfare 2 stoned. The hypocrisy...hurts...so...much.Torrasque said:They're all first person shooters I guess, but for the most part they are really different.

also duke nukem forever, bullet storm and brink are coming out next year and they all look unique and innovative well apart from duke nukem which will be old school the exact opposite.Headsprouter said:Also, Bioshock is a fps and it's pretty different.
Well I happen to have an entire thread about it, no harm done, theres no way you could have searched for this title http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.83709-What-is-the-most-rediculous-thing-someone-has-said-to-you-as-a-matter-of-fact-about-a-video-game?page=18YOUM@D123 said:A couple days ago I i was arguing with my buddy he then says 'UGH I HATE EVERY FPS THEY'RE ALL THEY SAME' I didn?t understand his argument though of course there all the same it?s a genre if they weren't ''the same '' they wouldn't be called fps ?
Anyways before I go on an unnecessary rant I want to know what's the most uninformed comment you heard someone say about video games (in general)
Ps: sorry for the misleading title if you expected to cut a troll a new one

-My Ex; after finding out I started to play WoW.
That drove me insane. This guy also compares EVERY game that he sees to Halo. It doesn't matter, RPG, platformer or whatever. It's always whatever game that I am playing at the time vs. Halo. (He is also the reason I can't play Halo. Ha.)
I'm not a big fan of JRPGs, but I love the Persona series. Atlus is wonderful. Square Enix, I could probably do without. Though I did enjoy The World Ends With You. The only reason I traded it in is because it drives me crazy when games utilize the touch screen to any significant extent. Give me the option to use the d-pad or give me...a different game <__<emeraldrafael said:That all JRPGs are inheirtenly shit and that they should never leave the island they're conceived on.
Strangely, it wasnt from Yahtzee. It was a friend who said that.
Then I showed (forced under penalty of pain and property destruction) him Persona 3 Fes, and persona 4 and he changed his opinion quickly.
I find it strange that you cite the MMORPG and RPG genres as havens of creativity. Last time I checked, half of the MMOs coming out were WoW clones, and RPGs were more or less about a 'chosen one' trying to stop some newly unleashed horde of evil. Not that that's a bad thing (I'm a huge fan of RPGs), but the hypocrisy in those statements is astounding.gunheads said:Most games in the last 5 years do follow a very similar pattern, either a super-human space marine fighting some unspeakable evil (See halo). Or its a call of duty clone (ANY FPS), Simply put, If a game sells well, Dev's will copy that game. At this point in time, If you want originality, look to indev's making games like "minecraft", Or broaden your gaming horizon, try genres like RPG, action-RPG, MMORPG and RTS. There are alot of good games set for those styles, like mass effect 3, Cataclysm and The Elder Scrolls: skyrim. All of these games have at least 5X the game length and playability of most FPS's today.
I personally hate the goo modern FPS games have become, Having played all the C.o.D's and many games like them, I do not see why they are so well accepted, but that's just my point of view. As an avid RTS and MMORPG gamer I probably dont feel the same attraction as many do shooting someone in the face. But eh, live and let kill.
