Those are US soldiers in the pic, the stripes are upside down :p

OT: as long as it's a dashboard thing, I'm okay with it.
And, you know, the US flag patch.

Getting 13 year old shouty Xbox Live kids to fight, now that's something worth watching.
If their parents don't give them a royal bollocking for swearing and throwing tantrums the army certainly will.

It's unlikely that will happen but I can always hope.

OK.. first off lets clear out some facts here.

GCHQ is military intelligence, including research and development of weapons and tools, tactical theory and predicitons among other things.

If The british army was recruiting soldiers - and by that i mean the frontline rifle in hand runs 30 miles a day kind then it would be the MOD doing the recruiting.

As its GCHQ i suspect there actualy looking for people with gaming skills rather than athletic prowess. People with skills at finely controling remote devices such as UAV's or bomb disposal robots. people with the ability to understand a computerised map and relay info to teams on the ground. Im sure you get the idea of the sort of stuff im getting at.

If the advertising isnt pushy i personaly have no problem with it. Chances are tho it will be viewed by people under 18 and the last damn thing we need is more kids throwing away their lives or sanity for our marvelous empire building habits.

Actually, I think this is more comparable to Kitchener's recruiting tactics after football matches. Think about it, you have a particularly good game, you will be in a good mood and will think yourself top of the world. At that point, you'd sign anything they gave you.

Now I just need somebody to photoshop Gordon Freeman on to this...

The British military does not recruit twelve year olds, and their efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan have nothing to do with "empire building."
Ok your right the british army does not recruit 12 year olds. I never said it did. I said 'kids'. Thats any one under 18, and for what its worth the british army DOES recruit 16 and 17 year olds. Theres also the cadets and junior TA which starts the recruitment process at a much younger age.

As regards empire building - why exactly do you think were in afganistan, and iraq. What about the troops in somalia they've hardly been mentioned for ages. Part of the function of our armed forces is to protect our interests abroad - those interests tend to be financial and centered around resources and aquiring bussiness for british companies.

For what its worth i have no issues with our troops, Ive known quite a few and I used to work outsourced for the MOD and other departments myself but i do have an issue with some of the command decisions, more specificaly the political decisions behind them.

Ahaaa ninja'd! We also don't have that colour camo, and digital style camo hasn't been introduced yet :p

OT: I already applied for the armed forces and failed. If I can get a 5:1 K/D do you reckon they might let me in? :p

Big Brother is watching you, even when you think you are just playing. They know, they hear, and see all. You have been warned.

One presumes that the military will be offering up additional training for those gamers who enlist, unless they've really bought into the idea that games can actually teach people how to shoot a gun.

I know, I just wanted to point out something less obvious.

I thought the point of the war game was to get the thrill and feel of being in a battle without actually endangering yourself :-\ If it bolsters their numbers with legitimate recruits, job well done, but I don't think they should be surprised if this campaign isn't too successful.

I live in the UK and, frankly, I find this insulting.
We are already caught up in a useless war and if the government cannot find enough people willing to be killed for no apparent reason they should take the hint.

People don't want to die.
Well, most people don't.
oh wow really subtle, useless war you say?? have you forgotten September 11th 2001? or closer to home July 7th 2008? How about you show respect for the people giving their lives so you don't get blown up on your way to work?

OT : I think its a good idea as alot of these people will not know where their lives are going and if they join the military they can feel a good sense of purpose in British society
Firstly, it was 7th July 2005.
Secondly, the people who carried out the attacks were British, and probably wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for our prior involvement with America in the war.

oh, and you tell me, what are we achieving?
How about bringing down a couple of tyrannical regimes? Oh wait, I forgot, since it's not in England, it's not our problem and we should ignore it.
Yep. want proof? next time you see two people pull knifes out on eachother try to get involved.

that'll be fun

Sometimes I think maybe I wanna join the army. I mean it's basically like FPS except better graphics, but what happens if I get lag out there? I'm dead! I mean, I even heard there's no respawn points in RL.
