There was something i pulled a while back. i downloaded a special screensaver onto my brothers computer, it was an imitation of the infamous 'windows blue screen' (which means a software crash) i waited for him to leave the room, then i turned on the screensaver, he was freaking out for about 10 minutes after that, and i had to show him that if you just wiggled the mouse it ended the screensaver.

At my friends house, he was having a video chat with a friend of his and I unplugged the ethernet cable. He thought it was hysterical that the person on the other end was standing still for so long and after 30 minutes of talking to himself, I showed him the removed cable :D.

Aaaah, the memories of tech class. hooray for windows registry exploits.

I won't go into the finer details, but it involves logging in to their registry remotely, changing all their settings (screen saver, desktop, etc.). I remember we once set their screen saver to an actual program, and it ended up locking their computer up so they had to reboot.

this is rather destructive but it was funny. Open up a floppy (this was when they used them, we would do this with all the "free AOL" disks) put a thin layer of highly flammable glue with a very low burning temp and crushes up match head dust on the inside against that white cloth lining and put it back together. If they take to long to try and get it to work it heats up and Poof flames from the drive!

Some Dell computers have a key combination that flips the screen upside-down. This included the computers at my high school. All you need to do is hit the same key combination again to fix it, but nobody knows what it is.
I use to do this to my room mate all the time.

In high school I had a computer class that got along really well so we pulled pranks all the time. The class favorite was an oldie, but a goodie, where whenever someone left the room without logging out we would change their background and log them out. They would come back and log in to find Batman and Robin making out. The best was when we got the teacher's computer. There was one time where a guy went onto another guy's computer and hid all his folders and then created a ton of new folders. The entire screen was just littered with empty folders and the guy had to delete them one at a time for fear of deleting all his work. I loved plugging a second keyboard into other computers and then hitting alt+F4 every time they tried to open something up.

one of the best tricks ever... go to a random store where they sell computers, preferably with only underpaid 18 year old working there.
Alot of the display computers dont have ANY passwords or other security on them, that means you can easily put in a memorystick, fuck up their background, then lock the computer for everybody (leaving the entire store scratching their own eyes out after hours of exposure to tokio hotel...)

sweet memories :)

A favourite prank of some of my acquaintances is to trick you into leaving your computer/laptop, like using that cunning ruse "Hey, go get me a beer, yeah?" and then changing the open internet page onto some site like the infamous video accompanied by the "You Spin Me Right 'Round" Song, minimize the screen and wait for you to return.

*Shudder*
Would that by chance be a screamer?

I favor this Blue Screen of Death screensaver I got saved on my external drive. When the screensaver runs it mimics the BSoD flawlessly and pretends to restart your computer (but real experts see through it right away because it isn't -entirely- precise and it gives itself away with the error code at one point).

One kid in my school district messed with the phone system making it call a random classroom every 5 minutes. They didin't realize the ghost-calls were related until the end of the first semester and even then they couldn't fix it by themselves, they had to get the kid to come back from college and fix it in exchange for not pressing charges.

There was one prank that went around on April Fool's day a couple years back. My father's boss got it on his computer. It told him that all his files were being deleted in ten seconds. He went around to everything he could, trying to fix it, and when the time was up he got the blue screen of death. The blue screen of death had one message.

"April Fool's", and the computer restarted, unharmed.

I love playing porn tricks.

-Set the logon sound to a woman moaning.
-Set default webpage to a porn site.

Never gets old. And the panic is priceless :D

Ctrl+Alt+Down arrows=Flip upside down

Ctrl+Alt+Up arrow=Flips it the right way.

Somehow a friend of mine.. Turned the screen to the left.. (Which was okay, because the computer screen could be turned so that it was legible.)
windows key + arrow does the same thing as well

ok for mine

in everquest i used to tell ppl to press ctrl+esc then the up arrow twice and enter twice to get a fancy prize

my other one when in a call centre would be to take a screen shot of the desktop, save the pic, set the wallpaper to the pic i just took, hide the taskbar and the desktop icons

Set a thrash metal song to play on a login screen, then turn the speakers up to maximum. Then, you wait and listen.

That's all I have, I'm not very malicious.
Done that to my wife. She was not amused, but I was in the corner of the room laughing my ass off.

My mate was at a gaming LAN and the people there rearranged the buttons on his keyboard to say "you wanker".

Rather amusing :D

I can't believe no-one has pulled the Alt-F4 trick yet.

"How do I get this to work?"
"Oh, just press Alt-F4."
haha, i did that to a guild mate in lotro last year. they were new to the game and didnt know much about pcs. when they asked how to rearrange the ui, i quickly said alt f4, 20 seconds later they went offline and everyone cracked up, then we gave him shit for it for the next couple of weeks

Remove the processor, put the heatsink back in place and unplug the motherboard speaker. No beep codes means no solution. No one EVER checks to see if the processor is missing.

lol, its probably put that one down to a fried motherboard or something. good thing no one else around here knows what the hell they are doing. of course, that also limits what kind of pranks i can pull because as soon as anything starts goign wrong with anything computer releated im getting yelled at to go and look at it, lol

Last April Fool's Day, I was in my friend's dorm, when someone down the hall decided to put a purple smoke bomb into some kids computer case, and tie the pullstring to the blades of the case fan...

The sheer amount of smoke that came out was just ridiculous.

Not to mention the computer was ruined.

yep i think i am one of the people who helped create that harmless virus. I know i was using that trick on all of my friends before ever hearing of any one. I would send it to every one over msn and then the 30 second count down would begin and it would appear like every thing was going to be wiped out...priceless.
