Why support the used market if you support the game industry?
The developers and publishers don't see a cent from used game sales.
Used games do put money back into the active gaming system, though. People who sell their games tend to use them to buy games, and given the use of trade-in as incentives to buy new games, it would look like a lot of it goes into new purchases.
It's rather disingenuous to say they don't see a cent. They don't get paid a second time for a second-hand game. The money, however, tends to go back to the gaming industry.
Besides, the used market is literally a right of gamers and other media users. To ask why I support is is asking why I support gamer's rights. Or, more broadly, consumer rights.
The real question is why they even deserve a cent. They played no active role in the secondary market. They just want money for something trading hands. Imagine if Ford knocked on your door when you bought a used car looking for their cut.
Its been proven time and again that you can make an overwhelming profit on video games (otherwise, we wouldn't all be here). Your game is usually bought used if its in some way objectionable to players, either because its lousy or because (as the case may be with this game, depending on your opinion), you're seen as greedy (and yes, also if the buyer is the next best step up from broke). While Developers and publishers don't get money from used game sales, companies like Game Stop existing and being able to distribute their games to a massive portion of the population is still good for these people, especially when you consider DLC the companies are making great returns on if more people have their game. Sure, they'd like to have people always buy new games, but unless they make good games or handle their own distribution (through perhaps digital distribution, etc), I cant think of a reason that they should be entitled to that money.
