Eh...really? Isn't that what Indiana Jones does?

I'll reserve my judgement, but I have low expectations ¬_¬

Then why... why call it Uncharted?

It was an unnecessary movie idea before, now it's an unnecessary movie idea that messes with the franchise.

People like Nathan Drake (some people, myself included) because he's a wise-ass. You're making him into some righteous cop guy. Why a cop? Is that because of Wahlberg? What, you don't think he can do anything else?

This is horrendous. This has nothing to do with Uncharted or Nathan Drake. Not that it really has to to be a good movie, but, come on... Treasure cop? *Curse words removed because I might come off as being too harsh*

I said it before and I'll say it again:

WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!!!
Again, that's not a bad what. It's just a really really confused what.
I mean, there not even making an Uncharted movie anymore
Hell did they even play the games!?

The second game is subtitled "Among Thieves" for godsakes, Drake's not a treasure cop. He's about the polar opposite of a treasure cop.
He's as far away from a treasure cop as you could possibly be.

Seriously though, this bodes badly for other game movies like Uncharted.
Here you have a game series that's practically a movie in itself, all you need to is literally remake the game's story in live action form, and you'd have a halfway decent movie.

Instead they're just gonna change, the story, the character motives, the whole god damn point of making an Uncharted Movie in the first place...

This family they talk about, better mean Drake, Sully and Elena. And by treasure police, I hope it means....
..they don't let the baddies get the treasure. Or something.

Other expected changes include giving him a talking dog sidekick, adding a dance contest scene to the second act, and giving him a paralyzing fear of Coca-Cola (product placement) that he must overcome to defeat the villain.

So they've taken a truly Cinematic Game, with the actual Nathan Drake available as the actor, raped his backstory and cast someone who doesn't even look or act like him as the lead roll. And Drake doesn't need his family to be powerful, because he himself has more luck that The Prince of Persia. The mere fact that he's the descendant of Sir Francis Drake makes him badass enough. That plus his skills.

So, they've taken something extremely good and made it something extremely shit.

I hope another studio picks up the Uncharted idea and actually makes an Uncharted film.

Actually screw the film, just make another game.

Sorry, they've already confirmed that Nathan's father and uncle will be in the movie. So his family is literarly his family in this case.

I'll just get on the Bandwagon here and say that I sense this movie will be a trainwreck of an adaptation. I mean, we've seen all this before haven't we? Back when both books and comics were given the "movie adaptation"-treatment, which basically means ripping everything special about the source material out of it and replacing it with standard Hollywood clichés.
If it failed in the 80's, 90's and 2000's, why would it suddenly start working now? Sometimes I get this feeling that movie-makers believe they can 'improve' what's already a good story by messing around with its' content instead of just trying to adapt it to their own medium.

No. Just... please no. Please, Hollywood? Why do an Uncharted movie if the only things you're gonna keep are the names? Just... don't do it. Name it National Treasure 3: Treasure With a Vengeance or something, but don't do this.

So Russell is taking the George Lucas approach to movie making now? Take something good and see how badly he can screw it up.

I'm going to have to get an incredibly big flame shield for all the defending I'll be doing of this film, but I still think it's going to be good. Russell is a good director, Wahlberg is a good actor, and this change could be interesting. Why just re-tell the same story? The game is "cinematic" enough, so that that isn't necessary.

I dunno, I kinda like it. It may make him more than just a smartass mass murderer.

It's not the source material, but you won't get a good adaptation if you stick to it anyway. Give the director liberties and count on brand recognition. If the movie ends up being good, people won't care.

I've only watched a Let's Play of the game, but it seemed like 30-second cutscenes of story glued to 15-minute cinematic gameplay extravaganza setpieces. It'll be fun to see some of them on the big screen, but they really need to deviate from the story. We already have the Tomb Raider movies for some brainless relic-hunting action, and those have... um, "assets". And yeah, the people attached are quite good. I hope they don't phone it in.

So, good, in fact, that he apparently abuses his actors.

Also, yeah, sorry, Marter, but if this has nothing to do with Uncharted, they could've avoided all of the critisism by not calling it "Uncharted".

Why in the hell would you ever go through the troubles of getting a license if you're going to just throw everything from the games out of the window and make something completely different?

Oh well, another day, another shitty game-based movie.

You wanna make a movie about someone who protects priceless antiques? Make "Brooklyn Knight" the movie. THey say their gonna make a movie bassed off a video game...

Then they hire the wrong actors, change the entire bloody story, rip the whole thing apart, and wonder why movies don't do as good.

STOP FUCKING WIHT OUR GAMES!

I think whats happened here is the guy has an awesome script for a film he really wants to get made but the studios are like "Antiques and arts dealing? No thanks!" So he's slapped Uncharted on it to get it made. Could be really good, but it won't be Uncharted.
