Into Eternity - The best band I have ever heard in my life, and not 'that' many people have heard of them. Nowhere near as unknown as the ones I'm about to mention, but Into Eternity deserve to be known by EVERYONE.

Dominia - Their Divine Revolution album is one of the few music releases that I can call a literal masterpiece. I can't believe Dominia are so unknown.

Shade Empire - A mixture of the electronic edge of Industrial Metal, and the vocals and riffing of Melodic Death/Black metal. If you heard their music, you'd see exactly what I mean by underrated. And if you like metal, of course.

Death - Ok, some metalheads may know Death, but it's shocking how many people don't. They literally invented Death Metal, and there's so many Death-Metallers who have never heard of them.

There's a lot more I can list, but I'll leave there.

streetlight manifesto is an enjoyable ska band
I think everyone should hear streetlight, because they're the kinda band everyone can enjoy (apart from those kids who refuse to listen to anything other than simple plan or whatever). But yes I agree, they're very underrated/unheard of
id have to agree the only annoying thing is that once youv heard one ska punk band youve pretty much heard them all, still very good though (Y)

I've read all the posts so far but I can't be assed to listen to all these bands. I'll post something but I'm doubtful that anyone would listen to it.

Gamma Ray
Beyond the Black Hole makes me happy.
or NightWish, I hear they're popular, but only from people online, everyone else is clueless.

hello fellow escapists. the title says it all, what bands do you think are under-rated?

for me, it has to be Barenaked Ladies. they are music genius' and deserve more credit.

Finally, someone else has heard of the Barenaked Ladies. I agree, completely underrated.

As for other bands, I think Hammerfall are very underrated, the same goes for Iron Fire.

...No, they're really not underrated at all. Everyone knows Nightwish. They're in nearly every issue of Kerrang...
(Which I do not read, btw. I used to.)

NOOOOOOOOOO! You've attracted the annoying anti-mainstream people who are only going to list extremely obscure bands!

well I guess it depends where you live, since I live in Michigan everyone listens to those untalented hacks, Kid Rock and Eminem so I don't meet many people who listen to Goth-Opera-Metal.

Oh, fair enough. England here, and they're fairly well-know here. A dude I know called Mike LOVES Nightwish. I'm not too keen on them, but they're not bad.
They'll likely be VERY popular in Finland.

I live in Michigan as well, and I know what you are talking about.

I hate the way people go on about how "Eminem's lyrics have real meaning and struggle!" As if no other hip hop out there has meaningful lyrics.

Anyways OT: Animal Collective are a pretty underrated band.
As far as experimental noise goes, Animal Collective are about as well known and well regarded as it gets. Nearly every indie publication and website declared Merriweather Post Pavilion the best album of last year. I love them, but they're not underrated.

Underrated bands? I cherish tons of them!
First off, Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate, and pretty much any piece of music that associates with Andrew McMahon. That man is a genius, and doesn't get the credit he deserves. Google him!
Second, Reel Big Fish. They are probably one of the most fun and talented ska bands there is, but most people don't even know what ska is. In my opinion, the entire ska genre itself is underrated.
Send Out Scuds is another wonderful Ska band that no one's heard of, but that's only because they're just barely starting to play shows outside of their home state of Florida. I'm pretty sure they'll be big in no time.
And finally let's not forget the almighty Jonathan Coulton. He wrote "Still Alive" and he did the "Thing A Week" where he in the end had recorded about 50 songs in a year, need I say more?
I know a bunch more bands and artists, but I'll stop there for now.

This. I think the most important word there is fun, they are a fun ska band which most people would enjoy but they hardly get any attention which is quite sad.

As far as underrated ska goes I wouldn't say Reel Big Fish really falls into that category.

The Arrogant Sons of Bitches and Bomb the Music Industry! need more love.

The two bands are closely related, a lot of the same members. Really nice guys, the vocalist and guitarist of both bands runs a donation based record label Quote Unquote Records [http://quoteunquoterecords.com/], where you can all of Bomb the Music Industry's albums for free.

Yeah I guess they aren't I was just listening to Strawberry Jam at the time so the only thing in my head was Animal Collective. I guess a more underrated band is Beach House I rarely hear anyone talk about them even on music forums and when they do the topic only gets a few responses. They just make some achingly beautiful dream-pop that I believe everyone should check out.

Megadeth should have been a lot bigger than they are, no thrash metal band constantly make albums that are so different than each other in style and always the best that there is in that style.
And Anvil should have been recognized as the speed metal gods that they are. At least as much as Motorhead.
