Tool.

Everyone just claims that their songs are too long and weird. I say "Fuck you!" to such people.

Also, Radiohead. Yes, they may be very mellow, but it's still damned good!
So, you're an ass to people who voice their opinion on a band that isnt overlokked and are not under appreciated?

You know what, my one major complaint with Tool is the fact that all their songs sound the exact freakin same.

"well, you've never listened to a Tool c.d. have you?" That's the second most common response I get when I tell somebody that. The first one is a "nuh-uh!" or some obsenity followed by them crying and cutting themselves with the edge of their Tool c.d.

I actually own a Tool c.d. and I've seen Tool live. I listened to that C.D. from first track to last track and it all sounded the same. I had no idea when we changed songs. That is not an underappreciated band. That's a bunch of twats with instruments seeing how many times they can make the same damn song and how much money they can make off it!

Anyways, an unappreciated band I would say would be Tsunami Bomb. They didnt revolutionize anything butthey made terrific music in a short enough span before they broke up.
Which album was that?

P.S: You know, you call him an ass, but you say people who like them cut themselves with the C.D and the band, a bunch of twats... Don't be the pot calling the kettle black. (Must... resist... urge to say "You must've been sooo high" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxEHLPhGriQ]... Damn, too late.)
Ehh, I already called him out with an extremely long reply stating that he needs to play nice and whatnot. I don't think he needs any more spankings.

I do wish he'd tell us which album though, simply out of curiosity. The only one I can think of that has multiple tracks that sound rather similar(that aren't inter-connected songs) would be AEnima.

Lol I just typed these guys out in another thread.
-August Burns Red
-Attack Attack!
-Chiodos
-A Skylit Drive
-Circa Survive
-Born of Osiris
-The Devil Wears Prada
-Hadouken!
-I Set My Friends on Fire
-Streetlight Manifesto

Those are my favorites, and like no one has heard of them it seems.
I was going to respond to this but then I realised you were trolling. ):
No....
Those are some of my favorites, each of them have great songs to their name. You apparently don't like them; I couldn't care less.

I haven't heard the long and weird.... but the majority of people I know are listening to alt/indie.

Johnny Flynn. Even people who listen to that kind of music say "who?"

Do you think there are many musicians that didn't have or don't have the reputation and sales they should have? For me it's Thin Lizzy, I mean they should have at least a worldwide Platinum or something because they are simply kick-arse. And all my freinds say they love Hard Rock msuic but they've never listened to Thin Lizzy. This just seems weird to me.

Note: It can be of any genre of music. And explain who they are so other people can find out about them.
You sir, have impeccable taste.

For me I think Streetlight Manifesto/Catch 22 are underrated, along with the ska genre as a a whole (this of course, has nothing to do with the fact that I made a ska fans group that no one's joined).

Outside of ska I recommend Andy Mckee ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmE3QaGetn4 ) for his sweet instrumental acoustic stuff, 8 Foot Sativa as a wicked metal band ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltKbuQMEr3k ) and Diamond Head ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz3QP1IKTfE )

This and Mike Patton. Mike Patton is a pure genius. From Faith No More to Mr. Bungle there is no vocalist that can do what Patton does, anywhere.

Oh, and this one too. FischerSpooner are the ultra bomb. I await their next album intensely.

Also, Nine Inch Nails. Sounds strange but the popularity has fallen with the "trendy" crowd with NIN. People just want the old sound of Pretty Hate Machine and don;t appreciate the new sound of The Slip and Year Zero, which both RULE.

Huge Tool fan since Undertow but 10,000 Days didn't grab me the way Aenema and Lateralus did. It's still a good album, but I think my tastes have changed somewhat.

I second Lux Occulta: an incredibly versatile band.

Emilie Autumn is definitely underrated. She's practically a violin virtuoso and a vocalist with incredible range, and a great songwriter to boot. Comes across as very intelligent and focused in interviews, but you have to get around the fact her image seems aimed at 14-year-old goth girls.

Dream Theater does have worldwide respect and recognition and a successful 20-year plus career, but I always wondered why they never got more mainstream attention.

Johnny Hollow's a band here in Southern Ontario that has a unique sound, and I hope they get more fans. (The great thing about the internet is being able to appreciate up-and-coming local indie bands from all around the world.)

Bathory, the fathers of both Black and Viking metal, yet no-one seems to have heard of them, great shame.
Over here, everyone has heard of them.

I'm gonna say the guitar trio from Iron Maiden: Dame Murray, Adrian Smith and Janic Gers. No, not "Iron Maiden" but the guitar players. They're often forgotten as musicians and regarded just as "members of Iron Maiden".

Streetlight Manifesto is amazing, but from what I've heard they are some of the biggest names in ska music...or at least 3rd generation ska music or whatever the hell category they're in. I wouldn't say underrated, but ska music isn't generally liked by a wide spectrum of people therefore when they hear it they immediately say "What the hell are those instruments?!"

As for me, I would say Primus is very under-rated. Mainly because only a handful of people anywhere have heard of them, and probably 10% of the people that have heard of them actually like them. Primus takes conventional music and shoves it up through it's own intestines. Les Claypool is a god on the bass. Plus they have some of the weirdest, funniest, and most random lyrics you've ever heard.

Why thank you, I listen to some of the 2-Tone era ska, like The Speciasl, Selecter, Bad Manners etc. Mainly because me dad, mom and stepdad used to listen to them all the time. I'm trying to get most of me friedns into Ska and it's going pretty well.

Im pretty sure Cannibal Corpse is the best selling Death metal band ever. Also that the fact that people have asked me if I listen to C.C. I reply with "Not really I prefer Death," then people will say "What the hell is Death?"
From Wikipedia:

"Cannibal Corpse reached over one-million in record sales worldwide in 2003,[1] including 558,929 in the United States, making them the top-selling death metal band of all time."

"As of 2008, Death have sold over 1.5 million albums worldwide, with 368,184 copies sold in the US alone (excluding sales before the SoundScan era) making them one of the top-selling death metal bands."

(I can also see Amon Amarth and Dethklok giving them competition, but I didn't see any quick sales information and didn't feel like an in-depth search for it).

So, I guess you were right. Still, over 1.5 million album sales is not 'underrated', especially for death metal. Definitely up there.

And let's get this right, folks. Death didn't invent death metal, they popularized it. Possessed's Seven Churches was the first death metal album released, for example. A real metalhead would know that.

(Not really, now I'm just teasing.)
Sure Possessed were the first ones to use death metal style vocals, which Chuck very humbly admitted, but Death are considered the founders of death metal. Come on they defined it then reinvented death metal so much its practically Chuck baby. I am very familiar with possessed, but in my opinion Death started death metal, and most 'real' metalheads would agree with me.

Tool, the best metal or progressive rock band period! Far under appreciated yet they make some of the most thought provoking music and videos I've seen. Fuck yeah, TOOL!
tool is great, lateralus is a classic album for sure. But i personally believe the greatest progressive rock/metal band is porcupine tree. Steven Wilson, the singer, songwriter, lead guitarist, and producer is insanely talented. He actually produced three of Opeth's albums, Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation.

If you can spare 5 minutes, i seriously recommend checking out this live video, shows alot of their different styles in one song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hezXFUPRme4&feature=PlayList&p=DB0DFDFA4D8E8385&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=1
Porcupine Tree are great (If you can't tell from my avatar); I'm actually just coming back from their show in Montreal... And it was awesome. It was at a pretty small venue so it was cozy. I spent half the show about 10 meters from Wilson. They played the whole 55 minute piece The Incident without stopping longer than for swapping Wilson's guitars or for him to sit at the piano.

It's been a little over 4 hours now and I still can't hear high frequencies well from my left ear. : P

EDIT: Oh and he didn't just produce those three Opeth albums, he also played guitar, piano, mellotron, some backing vocals as well as the chorus on Bleak and he's the one who wrote Death Whispered a Lullaby. Mikael Akerfeldt is a big fan of Steven Wilson (I think they became friends or something) and he did some guitars including a (or the or all?) solo on Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here... .
He did the second solo on Arriving Somewhere. I went to their show in San Francisco on the 18th, drove 12 hours just to see them but it was totally worth it. Still kicking myself for not going to see their Fear of a Blank Planet show as that's my favorite album of all time.

Death - The best death metal band ever in my opinon and barely anyone knows who they are.

Gojira - Everyone who has heard them loves them, one of the mos tunique and inspiring bands in Metal, yet rediculously under rated.

Wintersun - Near perfection, fuses loads of different music styles, both metal and non-metal, into one, to create some of the most awe inspiring music I have ever heard, and thats how it feels sometimes, like I am the only one who has heard them.

Abigail Williams - One of the best symphonic black metal albums of the past decade and no one has heard it apart from some scene jumping kids, old mans child fans would love this band.

Battles - Experiemental 'rock' that you have ot hear at least once.

Buckethead - One of the most creative musicians ever, and no one listens to him.

Enslaved - These guys should be as big as Opeth but nope.

Firewind - One of the hardest working and best live bands in metal, but power metal isnt exactly 'in' is it.

Edguy/Avantasia - Creative genius making music that isnt 'in' right now.

Insomnium - Melodic Death Metal shouldn't be this perfect, but it is, and no one has heard of them.

Unleashed - Should be up on the same level as Amon Amarth spearheading swedish death, but nope.

Strapping Young Lad - One of the best metal bands ever that no one listens to anymore.

Actually Deven Townsend as a whole is extremely under rated.

Devin Townsend is amazing. Devin's solo work is better than SYL in my opinion.
