Have you considered that there may be possible implications of this that you hadn't picked up on. You seem to argue 'I don't use porn, porn use isn't a right, stop whining'. However, the thing other people are saying is where is the line drawn? Much of the rhetoric has used phrases like 'obscene material' or 'extreme and objectionable content'. Which sounds like it means terrible things no-one should want to see anyway.

But in Russia, would include anything that told homosexuals they weren't evil deviants. It could arguably mean anything that would be post watershed on telly is restricted. It could easily be expanded to things wholly unconnected to pornography or sex. Amnesty uploads footage of violent human rights abuses. That's very graphic, can't let kids see that can we.

The real worry is that it provides the government with the infrastructure to engage in a more general censorship of the internet.

No arguing. I realise the issue is censoring kids from this. Not adults, they just need better ways to allow adults the freedom and kids have more protection. They intend to block everything they define as pornography. Read the article. Child porn is already blocked as well as possible by the Internet Watch Foundation and violent pornography is already illegal under the extremely ill-defined "Extreme Pornography" laws.

I feel like you didn't read everything I wrote... yes, ban the real nasty stuff, Ban the crap out of it. My problem was never with that, it's with what's defined as porn/ ALL porn is getting censored but what are government officials, people not known for being a fun, relaxed type, going to class as porn? But I've tried divert away from porn vs art because it's not even the real issue. Censorship is. And the last line of your post sums up everything I have to say on the matter, so that's good.
