I just finished my first year of university and I loved it, you should be looking forward to it. I'm not in the UK (University College Cork in Ireland) so I can't offer you much help choosing one (it is a fine university if you do fancy a trip across the water though). I guess we're lucky in a way in Ireland, we only have seven universities so it's not that hard to pick one.
I can give some advice that is probably universal. The big thing I would say is keep on top of everything you're meant to be doing, you're probably meant to be signing up for tutorials and doing projects and so on and nobody will make you, you're lucky if you even get told you're meant to do it. It sounds obvious but it is a culture shock coming from school to find that you have to motivate yourself to do everything instead of putting it on the long finger because now nobody gives a shit whether you actually do it or not.
The other thing that comes to mind is forget everything you learned at school. Ok, don't forget everything you learned, but forget how you learned it. At school it's all about rote learning and training you for exams. In college you're going to need to actually learn and understand things for their own sake without reference to how it's going to appear on your exam. Again, sounds obvious but it is different from school and it's something that catches a lot of people out.

Huh, I don't want to go to Uni, but school seem to be forcing me.

If you wanted to do something involving journalism, it may not be a good idea to actually do a whole university course on it because then you've boxed yourself into doing one thing and you'll have no other options should you discover that you don't want to be a journalist.

Well in that case i suggest that you don't go to places like Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, liverpool. Might be a bit of a stereotype that they are mainly in the north, but they do have a lot of chavs. as does a lot of areas of London.Vanguard_Ex said:

I've been told (by the owner of a newspaper, who I saw for advise) that a journalist degree is not worth that much if your really looking into a career as a journalist as they value experience above qualifications, so your time could be better spent getting work experience with a newspaper or news broadcasting station. That's why I'm going to be taking an English Literature degree as it's flexible and means I could pursue any number of jobs.
