Sad really. Treyarch, up until this point, had at least been trying to do something DIFFERENT from Infinity Ward. While IW went the way of Modern Warfare every year Treyarch made World at War and Black Ops two games set in entirely different time periods. The reason Call of Duty got so stale so quick was that they just kept going back to the same guns and same time periods, it's why I kept MW3 for maybe two weeks before taking it right back to gamestop where I got it. SSDCOD.

Now they're both circling the drain, MW3 and Black Ops 2, really? I made the mistake of buying COD games a few too many times, but not again... If anyone should be outraged its the fans.

My friend just told me the sun will rise tomorrow. I think we should get a angry mob together and beat the crap out of him for ruining the suspense.

anc[is]I can't decide which is stupider: Activision thinking we really are that thick, or that not being able to go to a Transformers game preview is some form of punishment.
I know, right? You got to break the news (albeit accidentally) and get a ton of press and Internet attention, AND now you don't have to go see the next shitty Transformers product.

Win/win?

Wait all my friends just bought Modern Warfare 3.(well not just but it seems that way)

Im really going to have to buy another COD game to play with them this year? For their sakes i hope the elite account status carry's over and doesnt cost more.
I honestly can't tell if you're being serious :X

Even if you count the games before Modern Warfare 1 (Call of Duty 4 whatever) there has been a Call of Duty released every year since 2005. There is absolutely no reason to believe 2012 would be any different, or 2013 or 2014 ad infinitum.

If you are joking, I might add that any good piece of humor has to have some kind of exaggeration to make it really funny... unless of course "For their sakes i hope the elite account status carry's over and doesnt cost more" WAS the exaggeration, because no, of course it's not going to carry over. They can't even hear you complaining because they are drowning in money as we speak.

I know it's really cool to hate on Activision and everything, but honestly i'm on their side.

They wanted to keep it quiet, they asked the site nicely to take the news down, the site refused. Lets be honest, uninviting them to a preview and taking down the ads on their site... so what?

Hardly what i consider 'bullying the little guy'. If the site even actually cares about these 'punishments', then one saying i think definitely applies would be 'don't bite the hand that feeds you'.
If you want Activision to be your pal, then don't go giving them finger when they ask you for a favour XD.

So Activision are attacking a perfectly legitimate report (Gameblog) of an event (Amazon).

Activision doesn't 'seem' to be attacking Amazon though.

Scapegoating?
Sure sounds like it! I don't know what they would expect though! If they arn't planning of doing it somewhere new, then what does it matter that it was released early... its mundane news...

Its not as exciting as 'where will the next elderscrolls take place?' or 'where will the next assassins creed take place?' or even 'where will the next GTA take place?' as these have bigger implications to the fans... surely for the CoD games the pertinant questions are 'what new guns and features will we have, that wern't in the original?'

I wish that I could give Gameblog some money. I want to show that I support them and not a company that is going to bully some journalists for reporting something so trivial.

You go, Gamesblog.

Edit: I think, OP, that you can remove the "allegedly" from the headline. It's pretty clear, in my opinion, that they're pretty mad.

Interesting... Call of Duty refuses to die with more tenacity than a New York cockroach. I wonder what would happen if Treyarch had an original idea and, oh, i don't know, maybe gave the zombies guns? Oh right, Spec Ops from MW3 would happen.

I'll be perfectly honest, I'm starting to get tired of companies turning at least one game in a series out per year. Give the games time to have legitimate ideas, time to get rid of all the bugs, time to make everything balanced. It's starting to get as bad as NFS, the way they blast games out like they need to make more money or something.

In other news, God is freakin' outraged about the English science rag that leaked the details about the sun rising tomorrow.

Get this: It'll be from the east this time. The east, people.
Damn why couldn't they have posted that earlier. I'm out 100 bucks, I bet on south west.

Activision, really..... *Sigh*. I can see that you wanted to tell everyone yourselves, but, your mad they did and gave away the unimaginative title that everyone but a man named Joseph Warwick of 423 South Lockshire Way, York, UK was expecting.
Grow up.

Just once, I'd like to see a report about Activision doing something positive or making a good impression. Is that too much to ask?
Ohhhhh we can't have that! Activision is currently duking it out with EA to decide who gets the crown of "Biggest Bunch of Pricks in the Gaming Industry."
Well said, well fucking said.

OT: To be fair, I wouldn't class not being able to see transformers as a punishment hahaha

First, no. MW3 shattered BlOps' record. Second, no to BlOps 2. Unless it's all revolving around the Zombies mode, in which case would be the best thing since sliced bread.
MW3 beat the sales records for speed (most sold in X time), but Black Ops was still the 3rd or 4th best selling title of the holiday season AND was 1st the year before that, so they've sold a lot more copies than MW3 has in the short time it's been out.

I wish people would start realizing they can't censor the internet. Even if all of the big sites had taken down the news, someone would find it in the cache and post it somewhere else. They'll never fully eradicate it, once it's up it's up.

Let's not give this any attention, buy it if you want, but if you don't want it, let's not clog the Escapist forums up with COD again. We just ended the Skyrim kick for crying out loud.

So a company tried to control what a site was able to publish? Call me crazy, but doesn't this sound kinda fishy to you? They DEMANDED the article be removed because it...what? Reported that Amazon had a page for Blops 2? Doesn't the media and news sites live on this? Why has no one called Activision out for this?

This from a company of an industry that cries free speech and whatnot when they are attacked by ignorant politicians that want to censor games. The press is free, and even private companies should atleast seem to respect that. I dont care if they are allowed to do whatever they want with their advertisement money. They dont have the right to pursue presscontrol.

The message is clear, do as Activision says or else..

Threatening to pull ads because they reported what another site did is bullying. I'm not sure what your idea of bullying it is, but it seems really far from what's correct.

And that's the problem with journalism, they aren't allowed to actually report things anymore, lest it upsets someone who helps keep their site/network running with ad revenue.

Lets say gas prices go up again. The news reports this. Oil companies threaten to pull ad revenue if the news doesn't stop reporting that gas prices are going up. It's the same thing.
