You have no idea what i was talking about this entire thread. And that is okay, as this stupid bullshit has gone in a circle for fourteen pages.

I am however, tired of repeating myself. You have no idea what i was talking about, or my opinions on this case. You have read a condense segment after, as i said, hours of me repeating myself and just growing bored and not caring anymore.

You want to know what i am ranting about.

There is a difference between doing something that possibly can be used for negative things and releasing things knowing full will it will be used for negative things.

But no.. lets rant about dark ages, pencils, shoes, and murdering mothers....

So far I am shocked you didn't post a picture of hitler or something... Jesus christ...

Seems everyone is rather too busy riding the tabloid journalism train to notice my [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/7.272541.10514080] and a few other posts mentioning that he is in fact on a holiday and obviously not feeling the country from a civil case.

Seems the main story was updated finally too.

Hotz is on Holiday.
Holiday was paid and booked last November(2010) and legal defence fund donations were not used.
He did provide his drives to the third party investigators.
Missing components were stock controller cards.
Said controller cards have since been provided to the third party investigators.

Back to riding Sony's spin.

Knowing and being willing to create malicious programs? That's not Geohotz, he's just opening it up for OTHER people who could potentially make illegal programs.

His crime is supposedly "Knowing something that might allow someone else to do something illegal" That is so fucking far removed from the illegal act itself it's outrageous, might as well arrest murderer's mothers for birthing a murderer, after all, it couldn't have happened without the mother!
If all he did was 'know' it, then yeah, you'd be right. Instead, he posted what he 'knew' and allowed other people to hack the PS3. That's intent, you don't post a security root key and end up being surprised that people will use it to abuse their systems.

This whole thing is just one big clusterfuck that's going to put a big damper on corporation/customer relations. In the long run nobody's going to win this fight.

Perhaps you'd care to tell me why you're in a discussion forum- in the discussion section of that forum no less, discussing a topic that has you in circles? I read a segment of your discussion, that is true, and I responded to that segment, which is also true. That segment, which you've conveniently blotted out of your reply, was in fact well informed to the topic at hand. You fear what knowledge can do, so your reaction is to de-legalize it. Whatever that knowledge could be, should there be an illegal application (which is all knowledge), it should be made illegal. That was the snippit you posted, and it it is some crusades style thinking.

I am not chained to this discussion, and will not be conversing with you further. You've shown your colors in how you chose to reply to my post; with frustration, and insults. If I could offer some advice; if you don't like talking about something, then stop discussing it. Close browser window, or at least back out of the discussion thread. This site has lots of little things to keep you smiling, should you need one.

What right did he has to mod his console if he agreed to the UA, where he stated that he wouldn't do it? UA is a legal document you know...

Sorry for the double-quote, but a thought came to me. You could totally replace Gabe's face with Bobby Kotick's, and it would be just as relevant. The thing about Gabe is that as far as I'm concerned, he earned that money fairly by not selling out to investors, and by pleasing the gamers that he makes games for. Kotick just would push Episode 3 out the door as fast as possible just to get that money from us gamers without a second thought. It would be playable, and probably meet the bare requirements to be called "fun", but it wouldn't be on par with the rest of the Half-Life series.

While it's all fishy and I expect him to stay there if the case isn't thrown out.

I bet A) His lawyers suggested such a thing. Hell if it's thrown out, he's won. If it's not he's more then likely lost already (This is a pretty uphill battle if the judge continues to agree to accept all of Sony's BS evidence and suggestion.

But truthfully, I'd need a break from all this crap if I were the kid too.

I mean seriously.

True, Gabe earned his position and was/is a gamer himself so he knows the industry from the customer level

Yes.

You can post how to recipes for dynamite, bombs and all sorts of illegal stuff. You can sell guns and not have to worry if a single buyer goes apeshit.

To say that people should be held responsible for what other people do with that information is hogwash.

It would be like holding things like bittorrent responsible because some torrents are used for illegal purposes.
So if I sell peoples personal information to people i know are going to use it to rob, hurt, or criminally harass those people I am free in clear because i only provided them the means to do those actions?

Fuck yeah. I can't wait to sell other peoples information to marketers for a profit.

Want to know when to break into your ex's house and masturbate on her things? For forty bucks I'll sell you here work schedule. For 500 I'll make a copy of her key and give you her security codes!

Be right back, i'm going to post every list bit of personal information about you, bank records, living address, phone numbers, Social security numbers, and if you wind up murdered and bloodied or have your identity stolen, hey don't blame me! I only gave people the means to do so. Not my bad someone actually did it.

Think it's a bluff? Well companies have all SORTS of information on you! On their servers and hardware! Who are YOU to say facebook, or the government, or anyone you gave personal information to can;t use it as they wish. After all, it's on there hard drives, that they purchased

Your ISP knows every single last ounce of info about you. Where you live, your real name, every dirty secret you think is between you and your computer. Following your line of reasoning if they released all your info you would not only have no right to tell them to stop, but if any personal damages occurred because of these negligent actions they are not at fault!

Wooooo.

He doesn't have to.
For that particular example he does.
Well it was on his console which he legally bought. It's not like he hacked Sony's servers he was just going through his property.
Bare in mind sony doesn't care about people hacking there consoles and modifying them

They are mad at him for releasing a root key that he knew would be used to fuck up sony's servers.

What you and everyone who keeps giving me a holy then though trip is missing is that you seem to believe he thought releasing the root key would only result in kitten farts and unicorn rainbows. Something i don't buy.

I'm bored now. I'm going to bed.

"Factually, it's true I'm in South America," he said. "I mean, it is Spring break; hacking isn't my life. Rest assured that not a dime of legal defense money would ever go toward something like this."

Yes not a dime of his legal defense money went to his vacation, only his own money that should have paid for his legal defense to begin with went to his vacation. Congratulations to all the morons who gave him money, so that he could pay for his lawyers with your money and still afford his Spring Break vacation to South America. I hope you all are so happy for him.
So it's not possible that he'd simultaneously have enough money to go on vacation to South America, and not enough to pay for defense against litigation from SONY? My guess is his vacation trip is a drop in the bucket compared to his legal fees. Why not go?

The article presented mistaken information, which is now corrected. How invested are you in hating some random guy on the internet?

Wow what awful, awful journalistic standards the escapist has sometimes, nice job on not even bothering to change the topic title either.

Also good job for the people still posting without reading the update to the original article *golf clap* not to mention the incredibl ability to tell the difference between a criminal case in progress and a civil case not yet started**.

Now would it not be hilarious if his legal team turned round and sued sony for ...slander(?) .

**my legal knowledge is sketchy, I know the evidence gathering phase is on just now buy the actual hearings/dayincourt are not until april, no?
