Just managed to beat the game again. I unfortunately went insane, but man was it a dramatic finish.
Holy fudge, well done! Breathless final minutes there. :)

Nice one, Eomega123. I enjoyed reading that. Out of interest, what difference does it make (if any) if your investigator is entirely insane?
Well you get all the standard insanity effects, but much more frequently. I had the static screen and noise on basically every board, enemies that weren't really there in about every third room, and you have to PAY ATTENTION when you click on options, because if you accidentally click to shoot yourself there is no way to beat the quick time event at that level.

Managing to seal away the attacking god while remaining sane earns you an extra 10,000 experience.
If you're insane when you cast the banishing ritual, then you wake up in a padded cell, having no memory of what happened after that, though people tell you were wandering the countryside, babbling incoherently. While you managed to stop the god, you're still convinced that the shadow is everywhere, and you die in there gibbering like a maniac. Alternatively:
If you're sane when you perform the banishing ritual, and if the ritual doesn't send you over the brink (I'm not sure if the banishing ritual decreases sanity, I've only even been very sane, completely insane, or completely insane but on a drug fueled rampage), then you successful seal away the god and escape. You live and the world is safe, even though no one will know you saved them, or that they were even under attack.
well except for the ministry of occultism, who seem to have noticed and they offer you a job.
Well yes, the ministry offers you a special assignment, but doesn't the nature of the texts you receive seem to imply that you're already employed with them, and thus they'd already be in the know about your world-saving exploits? On a related note, anyone seen what happens if you ignore the text they send at the end of the game? I doubt it would change the ending, but it would certainly give it a different feel.

I just beat the game with only a sliver of health and sanity, and I didn't have the complete ritual. I feel great right now.

Your handler from the Ministry of Occultism is Trilby right? I wonder when this takes places with regards to the rest of the Chzo Mythos timeline.

Died twice very close, one I chose the wrong god (the right one can be either one of the ally, no I know), the second time I had everything to finish, almost no sanity lost, had the severe wound with blood lost and died RIGHT IN THE FREAKING HOSPITAL when about to click the heal button. I'm going to shoot myself for real now.

Finally beat this. :) What really helped was starting to note down the clues offered by bodies and coloured runes. It would be good if there was a section in the note journal where one could type in one's own observations, rather than having to always tab out to a text file or keep a physical notebook beside one.

Also, it turns out that the best way I've found to kill the gloopy toxic monster is back off when it shrinks, be out of range when it grows (when it causes toxic damage, I think), and then run in to pistol-whip it. Rinse and repeat.

This game is scary and can be frustrating, but it's really satisfying to finally succeed. :D

I really, really hope Yahtzee is going to expand on the concept. I'd gladly shell out cash for this if it had more features.

What territory runes mean:
If it's a claim of territory, then you know that color is associated with that rune.
If it's a blessing, then you know that that color is associated with the ally of that rune.
If it's a curse or blasphemy, then you know that the color is associated with the enemy of that rune.
I just came across two different runes in the same dungeon. One was a blessing, the other was a claim of territory, and they were both drawn in yellow.

the color correspond to the god that possess the building, so the god associated to the "claim of territory" rune.
in a given place, the color will be the same for the ally god rune and enemy god rune.

Oh dear. It seems that I have failed at logic forever. My idiocy is now preserved in this thread for all to see.
This is why you double-check what you write before posting it, kids.

Whatever will your future grandchildren think when they wonder what amazing things you've done online and find these posts?
Did you think about them at all when you so recklessly posted something you vaguely believed to be true?

I also have a question for the people dressed not unlike myself:

In the mystery locations where you encounter a note on the first screen saying "Open only the box that bears the mark of ..."

Does it actually matter which box you open? I've always opened the first box I came across and always got a significant clue and one of the scary guys chasing me. Has anyone done this with more care?
you mean in their underpants?

Yes it matters very much, you usually have three boxes, with differents runes or colors, and you have to open the right one, preferably first, because after you open one (the others are empty) you get chased by the scary guy. If you don't open the right one you can still manage to get the right one, but you have to run, you risk dying, and you lose sanity from escaping random monsters. Sometimes you have not enough clues to figure it out so it's a lucky guess

I have already made multiple posts praising the design of a certain porn game, so I think this post is the least of my worries.

Captcha: now and forever. That seems... disturbingly apropos.
