First The Birds, now this, then a remake/sequel to Blade Runner. Is nothing sacred in Hollywood? I swear to God, they're out to ruin every damn classic masterpiece film. Next thing you know, some studio will announce that they're doing a remake of 2001: A Space Odyssey....

but this time, there'll be more alien space battles and space marines!!

original script? any notable differences?
Not sure about the original script, but they changed a big thing from the original story. The whole story was a... erm... forgot the word, uhh... something representing the gold/silver debate back in whatever year that was (it's been 3 years since I've done any history). The ruby slippers were originally silver and it represented a way home while the gold brick road lead to nowhere. Plus pretty much every character, I think even Toto, represented a political figure or group of people from the time...

Wish it was Tim Burton directing. That would be interesting.
NO! NO. You go sit in the corner and think about what you've said.
Such true words spoken. This would mark the second time in half as many days that I've seen somebody squeal that they feel Burton should be directing a film instead of the director currently in place. What was it again? Oh yes, it was some crazy person thinking Burton should replace Del Toro in handling At the Mountains of Madness.

Is there room for two in that corner, or should I send them to another one?

Hopefully, this will be directed Quentin Tarantino, with all roles being played by Robin Williams.

Cookie for reference

...why not an original movie adaptation of Wicked instead of this? Seriously, most would be against a remake. But one of my favorite musicals on the big screen? I'd go opening night.
I second that Idea. It's darker, so it'd make more money (for better or worse)

But I wish we'd just get a direct adaption of the orginal book without the muscial songs, just the story. (for both the wizard of oz and wicked)

Honestly, if we give all the idiots their own corners we're gonna have to invent the omnigon or something. Just cram them in until they compress into idiot diamonds, I say.

Well, I'm not sure how much the update about the alleged director not actually being involved means for the fate of this project.

To be honest IF it's actually alive, I do hope they kill it. To be brutally honest I think we've seen a "perfect" version of "The Wizard Of Oz" that is deservingly timeless. I do think any real justice can be done to the storyline with a remake. It seems like an attempt to cash in on nostolgia, and get people to pay money just to see if someone could do better.

Retellings like "Wicked" that aren't the straight story are something else entirely, and are fine. Truthfully though I think they should be using the book rather than the musical as the inspiration. I think basing something on something based on something else is usually a bad idea and tends to dilute whatever is being made to a ridiculous extreme.

Honestly the version I'd kind of want to see is something like a series based off of Todd Mcfarlane's "Twisted Land Of Oz" action figures (I think I have the name right). Give it an "R" rating, crank the sex, violence, and depravity up to the point of having blood burst from the eyes of prudes internationally (ie push the definition of the "R" rating to the limit, where pretty much anythng goes except actually showing sexual penetration), and make sure you have Tim Burton directing it.

I say this because in general whenever someone decides to "twist" or "darkly re-imagine" classic children's tales or whatever, they rarely go all that far if it's a full version of the story. I think it would be kind of cool to look at the TRUELY warped visions that we've seen in things like those figures, or various statues or artworks produced by other artists over the years and run with that. Basically do it for real for once. I mean even American Mcgee's "Alice" for all the hype still operates within what are generally seen as permissable levels and doesn't push the envelope all that far.

Such are my thoughts.
