I, love it how fans these days are never happy, Bioshock was great, Fallout 3 (though different from the first 2 games) was great. If you get the same experience over and over it will eventually become dull.
See up until a month ago you could get away with saying this, however there's now a minor snag. And by "minor snag" I mean "even other developers think it's awesome". See at GDC 2009 they did their yearly Game Developers Choice Awards. Game of the Year and (in what I'm sure would make most people's eyes pop out of their skulls) Best Writing were both snagged by Fallout 3. What this means is that the closest thing to a peer review determined, impartially mind you, that Fallout 3 was the best game put out in 2008. So you can personally not like the game, but at this point repeatedly slamming the press for giving it high marks is a bit redundant. Of course now I guess you could just hate the whole industry (or at the very least the people at gamasutra.com and Game Developer Magazine)Reyce said:Reviewers jump onto anything nowadays. No game is perfect (unlike what these reviewers believe) and giving fallout 3 anythning over an 8 or 80% is near criminal.GyroCaptain said:That's not entirely fair, and most of the review staff of magazines around the world would disagree with you. You can raise the "It's not Fallout" argument, and that would have more credence, but saying it out-and-out sucked would be hard to support.DalekJaas said:I want to it not to suck like fallout 3
I agree that its a minor snag but I personally feel that game development has become a lot duller and has begun to fizzle out slightly. The games industry has really lost its way especially in terms of creativity (hence Fallut 3) and I believe the rise of Console gamers (of which I am a part of sadly) has made games... well dumber... so saying nowadays that a game is really good is basically saying its better than the other crap everyone else put out this year.AceDiamond said:See up until a month ago you could get away with saying this, however there's now a minor snag. Fallout London sounds more appealing. They never mentioned many other countries in the original Fallouts, but England popped up once or twice.Slycne said:Interesting, although Vegas is slowly becoming the World War II setting for cityscapes. Come on videogame developers there are plenty of other interesting locals in the world. Fallout New Dubai anyone?
KOTOR 2's story was entirely superior to the original- which already had an amazing story. It was darker, more original, contained more customization options. Your character actually felt like a real person throughout the entire story. The only thing place where it failed was the ending, which can't be blamed on Obsidian.Darth Sea Bass said:Oh christ no obsidian bollocks up every series they get involved with in my opinion! Lets judge the evidence shall we neverwinter nights... brilliant. Neverwinter nights 2... bug ridden piece of shit. KoTOR... amazing. KoTOR 2... total crap.
I agree with you that fans of the originals shouldn't judge it on its differences, but... I still don't think Fallout 3 was "teh best game evar!1" I didn't think Bioshock was great either. Then again, I'm a Halo fan, so my opinion on The Escapist holds as much water as a drunkard elf with Downs syndrome.Music Mole said:I, love it how fans these days are never happy, Bioshock was great, Fallout 3 (though different from the first 2 games) was great. Uh.. what? Just b/c it didn't use the 1990s top down PC technology (which was groundbreaking for the time), you think the game sucks? Are you out of your damned mind?Fallout 3 was probably in the top 20 best games ever. A large environment to explore, a pretty good story and conversation mechanic (although Mass Effect 2 just surpassed it), fun weapons, interesting characters and setting, and good combat that wasn't turn based shit. What more could you want!DalekJaas said:I want to it not to suck like fallout 3
I think you're missing the point. The guy you responded to was saying that you have every right to dislike the game, but it's not fair to bash it and make up excuses for it's acclaim and financial success. I fucking HATE stealth games with a passion but I don't go around saying that Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell are bad games.. they just aren't my cup of tea. You need to respect the fact that other people may enjoy what you dislike.Reyce said:I agree that its a minor snag but I personally feel that game development has become a lot duller and has begun to fizzle out slightly. Fallout 1 & 2 are games I will always come back to, having finished Fallout 3, I can easily say never again.
I didn't play games in the 1990s, Fallout 3 is the only fallout I have played.Brockyman said:Uh.. what? You need to explain yourself... if it was just the "top down" thing, then your incredibly dense and should be "sectioned". Do you think we should do all games in 8bit NES graphics?
However, I personally wouldn't have an issue if they developed a game FOR top down fans (like Capcom and Sega are doing old style games for Mega Man and Sonic) if they have enough of a fan base. Just don't dump on a really good game b/c they changed up the style
Haha.timmytom1 said:The only issue i had with fallout 3 was how crushingly dull it was it`s the only fallout i`ve yet to complete and i`ve no desire to play it again , it`s strange as i just loved meandering around cyrrodill (yeah i know) but the DC wastelands judt bored me shitless
Sorry to be pedantic, but argh you made a few consistent spelling errors there.jad4400 said:Snip
