I'm fine with the Fairy type. Adds a new type which opens up new strategies, new pokemon. New breeding options. But what really excited me was...THEIR'S A DRAGON POKEMON THAT LOOKS LIKE A BADASS BAT YES YES YES!! It uses sonics as it's main weapon YES YES YES!! sorry geeked out there for a moment. I just hope Noviern is either on both sides or on Y as that's the version I think I'll be getting.

So like, Dragon has good resistances, and almost nothing resists Dragon. This meant that either you could jump on the bandwagon and use your own dragons, and the dragon-est of the dragons would win. Or you could use something that learns an ice move, but doesn't get STAB, which is a bit flimsy. OR, you could use an Ice type, which is a ballsy move.

But it might not be the most exciting thing any more since Fairy hurts Dragon now.

So yeah, Ice got punched in the nards.

Sounds like a pretty stupid and arbitrary type. Like dragon really, but worse. At least dragon filled a niche as being the type that was effective against itself. Wonder what Fairy's other strengths and weaknesses will be. I reckon it'll either be supereffective or weak to Dark, for a start, but other than that I don't know. I have always wanted sky battles though.
Ghost is super effective against itself. Anyway, rumor is that Fairy is weak to Steel and Poison and immune to Dragon. But We'll have to wait and see to be certain. I'd be cool to see dragons get taken down a peg for a change.
How could I forget. Then again, Ghost is also the one that's immune to normal, which is a sort of special condition itself. What's the bet there'll be a Fairy Elite Four member instead of a Dragon one?

id like to see a demon type as a counter point for the fairy type, that could have Pokemon like zoroark in it. what do you guys think?

Well "Evil" already got softened to "Dark" for Western audiences, not sure how the translators would cope with a Demon type... which is basically covered by Dark anyway.

Are there effectivity charts yet?
I bet Fairy will be super effective and resistant vs fighting, water and ground, those types are kinda dominant right now.

I have added another update to the OP with information that has been revealed in a CoroCoro scan which reveals 4 more Pokémon.

Serebii have said they believe it is the last lot of info for the moment but who knows.

There are many types of faires. Not all of them have rainbow wings and sparkle.

Redcaps and ogres for example.

Whether Nintendo actually takes those darker fairies and make them pokemon is yet to be seen, but I wouldn't mind a redcap based Pokemon.
I agree, in traditional mythology fairies can often be quite malicious, it's a shame they've been degraded to flower-loving peaceful things over the last century. Hopefully Nintendo will make a wide variety of these new types.

Also, a new lobster pokemon? Fucking yes!

I like the look of almost all the new pokemon. With the exception of Noverian all the recently revealed pokemon look good. Simple but interesting. I'm already picking my new team. Fennekin, Pancham, Gogoat, Helioltile, clancher and shishiko

Judging from its appearance and Japanese name (which translates to "arm gun") its a pistol shrimp . You have no idea how happy I am.

I'm pretty sure that was the image you were aiming for, and if so, it's damn cool. Too bad fire/flying sucks competitively.

I'm really liking the info so far, the game itself looks really smooth compared to previous gens and roller blades are always cool. New bug gym? ok, I like bug gyms and all but we've had bug gyms in 2 previous generations and we've yet to see a dark type leader. No doubt one of the new gyms (first?) is fairy type.

Pretty much all the new mons are cool designs, liking these reveals much more than the gen 5 ones at the time.

Hey now, let's not write him off just yet. Remember how Volcarona was supposed to suck because of his x4 SR weakness? Now he's sweeping teams at +1 under any weather. Anything can happen. THIS IS POKEMON, BABY!

I'm intrigued. There hasn't been a new type introduced since G/S/C, and an attempt to shake up the current type charts by giving dragons another weakness could be interesting.

Honestly though, when it comes down to it, whether or not Fairy will be a good new type is going to come down to whether or not it's going to be good for anything OTHER than hurting dragons. We know that it'll be super-effective against dragons, but what else? And what will resist it?

Competitive battlers have to take alot of factors into account when choosing which attacks to give their Pokemon, and the question is whether or not Fairy is going to be a better attacking type than Ice or Dragon.

On the flip side of things, how is it going to be as a defensive type? We know nothing about what Fairy resists or is weak to, and that's going to be critical in determining whether people are going to bother using Fairy-type Pokemon in the first place. I THINK I heard something somewhere about Fairies being weak to Poison, which could be an interesting way to make the Poison type a bit more competitive than it's been in the past, but aside from that, we don't know what to expect from them.

And also, there's the subject of the Magnemite-esc type retcons of Pokemon like Clefairy and Gardevoir. How will the Fairy type work in tandem with their pre-existing types? WILL Fairy be a good combination with Normal or Psychic?

So my only answer is that I'm intrigued. There simply isn't enough information about the type to form a really good opinion on it's merits/lack thereof, but I'll be paying attention either way.
