Well prices are already high and some countries have high tariffs.
$95 for an Xbox 360 game? Most people will rather get the $10 pirated copy.

To them I say only this: http://cristgaming.com/pirate.swf
Not that I endorse piracy...I just like the song :D

And for Christ's sake, can we please avoid YET ANOTHER America vs Canada flame war? Please?

EDIT: ^^^Oh, too late.

I disagree with the majority of people responding here.

-snip-
IMO it all boils down to what is being derived from the distribution and flow of copy righted works, if its not trying to make money then it can not do any harm or damage as the market will make it to hard to sustain such a model the demand for free will be balanced with the cost of sharing stuff for free. This allows minor things like posts, clips, pictures, blogging, commentary, ect, ect and so on to be allowed without harming the publics right of free flowing expression and information.

If its unlicensed and soemone is making money from it there is a crime there, even more so if its unpublished works.

The problem is pro industry wants to say that what they sell to people is a temporary license that can be updated to be invalided whenever the copyright owner wishes. If we can't make copyright a short lasting temporary profit motive to spurn individuals to be creative then all that is left is signaler conglomerates owner the worlds past present and current information via the one right that rules them all copyrighted intellect property.

Thus why the non "monetarily infringing" trade of information and media should never be blocked or policed.... then again 1984 is alive and well in the twenty first century...

Ah United States how i love your over inflated ego, thinking you can stick your nose in other countries legislations.

Ahhhh i remember when you tried to tell my country (Brazil) on how we should treat our forests (since you destroyed all of yours).
Oh there was also that time you tried to prohibit us from constructing a hydro power plant to supply energy to poorer regions because it could hurt the environment.

Seriously, the US needs to learn to fuck off other peoples business, plain and simple. Want to enforce regulation on other countries products that are coming into your country? Fine.
Want to bully them into changing their legislation? Go to hell.

And the US can? theyre already loosing 3 wars at a time and all
Define loosing?
We've killed a hell of a lot more of them.
We occupy both countries.
I'd say we're winning.
And whatever country you are from, chances are you have troops with us.

Spent to much money, the area/region still dose not like us, we gain ground in one place lose it in another. We have gained little if nothing from the quagmire in the sand....just remember the Russian empire fell apart trying to take Afghanistan.

We need to pull out, secure our borders and start taxing any importing, off shoring, fictional money making corporation into the ground....

Screw it. They have absolutely no right to mess with the way other countries run things.
They are essentially doing this to protect their interests, not to combat piracy.

And isn't Canada one of the better countries in the world in terms of piracy prevention? I've heard that many times, but not sure if its true...
Oh we are.
I mean, we're way too polite for piracy.
In fact: We're SO polite, that even though our dollar is worth pretty much the same as a US dollar, we allow ourselves to pay up to 50% more on some goods, even if they are made in our own country, just because we can.

What's that? Pay $10,000 more for a car that was made two hours away in a Canadian factory? Why sure! I'd love to!

How about the US fix that piracy first, and then we can talk about push through some piracy legislation.
Lol i feel your pain. Living in australia the average game costs $100 Australian dollars. Yet converted to american dollars we're paying $92 Usd for something thats worth $50.

I love it. The US government as a mouthpiece for corpulent corporations built around obsolete business models.
If they are obsolete how can they still function?
Hmmm, let's see what your 13 billion dollar debt says about this....

We all know Canada is sooo much better run than the US.
There are people who would dispute that claim. Every country has problems, as does Canada.

Also, can we stop the bullshit?

All I hear is:

[HEADING=3]CANADA, THE MOST PERFECT NATION IN TEH WORLD. WE ARE NOT LIKE THE STUPID AMERICANS. THEY HAVE A CORRUPT GOVERNMENT AND THEIR PEOPLE DON'T PAY TAXES TO FUND THEIR BLOATED ECONOMY. WE SHALL NEVER BE INFLUENCED BY ANY OTHER COUNTRY'S POLITICS OR LEADERS, WE ARE AN INDEPENDENT NATION. O CANADA, WITH OUR AMAZING SPORTS, TOLERANCE OF FORIGNERS AND COOL HEADS WE ARE OBVIOUSLY THE DECENDENTS OF THE ATLANTIAN SOCIETY.[/HEADING]

Every country sucks. So would people please leave their "MY COUNTRY R BETTER" rants for another thread?
Everything minus the Atlantian society thing is correct? So ummm yeah... jog on 8)
Your obviously not very aware of your country are you? In that little rant are several sarcastic jabs at Canada. Might want to get your head out of the clouds of LaLa Land and take a few minutes to reflect on the current state of Canada's government.
I am actually very happy with my Gov't thank you 8)

And we are not like stupid americans... so ummm... I guess that bit was correct?

Are you American by chance? Please say so!
