They've been playing the juvenile Conker shtick since the N64 days. It was edgy back then, but not so much nowadays. My argument is that they don't have the same vision that they did back in the day for what gamers want.Indigo_Dingo said:Their last great game was one giant subversion of the cute and fuzzy stereotype, featuring a squirrel who was a drunk, a womaniser, a pill-popper and swore like a one-eyed carpenter. He was surrounded by a junkie scarecrow, a busty sunflower, dung beetles, a singing piece of crap, and so many other family unfriendly characters. Rare could easily work around cute and fuzzy. Their quality drop had nothing to do with that.m_jim said:You don't think that Rare's fall from grace had anything to do with the fact that most of their titles star cute, fuzzy mascots which gamers have been shying away from for the last console generation? Since Valve focuses on adult-oriented titles, they aren't as likely to have that problem.Indigo_Dingo said:Stop getting confused by the damn analogy.
Before they started working exclusively with Microsoft, Rare had one of the best track records in industry history, having managed to master two genres that were at complete odd ends. They then started working exclusively with Microsoft, and we all know the rest of the story. Valve are now saying they will work exclusively with Microsoft.
Exactly what I was thinkingoliveira8 said:But anyway this statement will just fuel the L4D2 boycotts to say "Valve sold their souls to M$!!!"
You worded it badly, that's why I was confused. I understand now.Indigo_Dingo said:Snip.
OH SHI-Arassar said:Let's see: Microsoft releases a broken product for way too much money, doesn't support it, then a short time later releases a new product that works the way the first product should have and expects you to buy it again. Valve releases an incredibly brief game, doesn't support it, then a short time later releas... WAIT A MINUTE!
Yes, there are so many worse things to be pissed about... for instance, being pissed at people for being pissed about a video game. That's a much more constructive use of time. Way to choose your battles. *eye roll*yankeefan19 said:I hate how people are pissed because of a game of all things. There are so many worse things to be pissed off at and they choose a FUCKING VIDEO GAME!
Shhhhh, part of the reason its so cool to hate the PS3 is keeping the illusion that it doesn't have any good games. If people were to find out there were actually decent titles on the console, who knows what would happen? Perhaps then people would pretend to hate it for the price, even though they're willing to subscribe to a 30$-50$ a year service which allows them to play online.Indigo_Dingo said:And yet it still has better games than the 360. What does that make it?karpiel said:Regardless of the Valve-Microsoft connection, Gabe Newell certainly isn't an idiot for divesting from what's basically the new Sega Saturn for Sony.
The Atari Jaguar of this generation? Which it is, in terms of the crossbreeding of technology and being stupidly hard to program for which is exactly why Valve refuses to waste their time with it. Complicated does not equal better.Indigo_Dingo said:And yet it still has better games than the 360. As a PC owner, it's somewhat annoying that you are so inept and afraid of anything that isn't running on the "newest" technology. It's most amusing to listen to you act like your ego actually gives you credibility, take your words, twist them around, and force you to choke on them. Win-win for me. Lose-Lose for nobody but you because you can't accept the fact that Valve decided it didn't want to bother programming for the PS3 anymore after the first time around didn't go well. Apparently company decisions to save them money and time are bad if they aren't for your precious little Blu-Ray player.Mornelithe said:As a PS3 owner, it's somewhat annoying that Gabe Newell is so inept and afraid of new technology. But, then again, as an owner of a gaming PC that stomps the piss out of the 'current gen' consoles, it's most amusing to download Valve's garbage, play it for free and delete it. Win win for me. Lose lose for Valve.
For quite a few other people on this site, those two are the same.Fenixhart said:Sounds like some people confuse "Evil" with being a business.
