<- More or less a Sony fan

Who cares? They do what they want. Besides, all their games are better on the PC. Now what they really need to do is work on Steam 'cause that damn thing is so buggy!
my feelings exactly. I don't think I've ever bought a valve game (I only have one or two really) for anything but the PC.
That said,
it is good to see them find another excuse besides "it's too hard"
That shit was starting to make them look pants on head retarded.

If you want to look solely at Left 4 Dead, I think that the game would suffer on the PS3 because of decisions that Sony has made. Obviously, communication is the key to that game, especially in Versus mode. Since Sony decided not to pack a microphone with their system, few people have one. On the other had, most people on XBL have a microphone (whether or not that have kept up with it is another story). Consequently, PS3 owners probably wouldn't be able to experience the game the way that it was meant to be played, with three other people talking and trying to come up with a strategy to fend off the horde.

Hehe, I highly doubt Valve doesn't develope for the PS3, solely on the basis of headset usage. Besides, they sold them packed w/ Warhawk, more people have them than you'd think.
Well, I don't buy Valve's explanation that they won't develop for the PS3 because they don't want to ruin "the experience" any more than you do. I'm simply thinking that all the people who are eagerly awaiting Left 4 Dead on the PS3 (you excluded, obviously) might wonder what all the fuss is about if communication is anything like your average PS3 game. People may have headsets, but even with co-op games like Resident Evil 5, they tend not to use them.

Here we go again with this nonsense...

*sigh*
Look, Valve is a GAMING company. They make GAMES! They are independent so they get paid for making GAMES that SELL. PERIOD. They have no vested interest in which console is better or who thinks what system is the bestest. Why is it nobody is crying because Valve isn't turning out Wii games? Because This is and has always been about butt-hurt Sony fans that for some reason think they know better than people who have turned out arguably the best track record for awesome game-age in the past decade.

Because most of their dev costs go into buying snacks for Gabe Newell?
Nice, fat jokes. That'll really make people take heed to your criticism. Speaking of which, what developer do you make awesome games for again? Oh wait, what's that? You DON'T make games or run a multi-million dollar gaming company? My bad. So basically you're just mad because nobody is buying YOU snacks, right? Is this snack envy going on here?

Sarcasm aside though...

After pissing off a 23 million strong install base, basically giving them the finger, they have to come out and say something less caustic than most of what they have to say about the PS3, because, simply put, that attitude could start damaging PC/360 sales.

Thats a really over-exagerrated statement. Seriously, how many PS3 owners even know what valve said? A handful of fanboys dispersed across countless forums does not make 23 million pissed off PS3 owning VALVE fans. Heck, you're making a huge assumption that 23 million is even strong... how many people own PS3's JUST for blu-ray? I'm willing to wager more than a considerable amount, considering that that has been and still remains the number 1 selling point for the system compared to the game library so far. Second, why would 23 million people care about ONE game developer from a company that makes a handful of games every few years? Are there that FEW decent games for the PS3 that this is worth bitching about? Really?
Thirdly, I seriously doubt that anyone who really cares about VALVE and it's games are going to intentionally stop buying the PC version (let alone 360) version of their games because of statements about a PS3... probably because those particular people are already PLAYING the games on the PC and 360 and could give a pig's eye about the PS3 and it's relationship. What gamer who has a bad ass PC desktop or a 360 didn't buy Left 4 Dead because "Gabe Newell trashed talked SONY!!!."

Then there's this whole "Valve is lazy developers who dont wanna learn the PS3" crap that I've hated since the very first time Gabe Newell opened his mouth.
Why? Because the vast majority of those people are NOT GAME DEVELOPERS... at least NOT game developers with any real credit or talent worth noting to give them the justification for espousing such an ignorant opinion. Truth is, none of us know HOW difficult it is to develop for the PS3, but I can determine by inference that it must be pretty TOUGH, considering that hardly anyone seemingly wants to do it. Valve is far from being the only developer snubbing the PS3's architecture and there is probably a very good and valid reason for that. Spending countless hours training, learning, and paying for developers to learn the PS3 architecture might satisfy PS3 game enthusiasts, but it might not make much business sense to a gaming company. There is no guarantee that a game developed ON the PS3 will have any success, even if the game is ported from another console. Haze was a PS3 only game, developed for the PS3... look how many people 'bought' that. Some companies had it made worth their while to do so, like Naughty Dog, but then they run the risk of being a one trick Pony... how many Uncharted games do you see coming out of that studio over the next 5-6 years. Probably more than we'll see a successful second franchise.

Anyway, until people with some real development credentials that can program top notch games on anything beyond an Iphone gets some training on the PS3, then comes back and regails us with the stories of how 'easy' it is to develop games on with some sort of proof, opinions to the contrary are moot. I don't think ANY gaming development is a simple process, and if the reports of how difficult the PS3 is to develop for have any substance (it certainly has a lot of verbal support from people in the industry), then I'm going to accept that as a very valid excuse no matter how much I love my PS3 and long for great games for it.

Until then, I'll play the great games that are coming for it, like Last Guardian and White Knight Chronicles and especially Demon Souls.
I'm not going to sit around complaining that I can't play any of those on my PC or 360 because those developers think the Xbox is too "boring" to develop for. I'm just going to buy what I can for the consoles I own and enjoy the GAMES.

Sounds like you're a little butthurt yourself. Is defeding Valve something that gets you hot? No? Then shut the fuck up, your arguments are as pointless and shallow as the people bitching about Valve snubbing Sony.

you know what? I don't think any of the consoles are superior, the PC is and always will be. Console came and went, PC was always there. Logically, there is no point in console wars, PC always wins and Valve knows it.

So they didn't make it because they didn't want to spend the time to learn to program a new way. After all, they went through another company twice to program for a playstation console. This kind of makes the, "we want to give the same experience" thing the boot. "We want to give all gamers the same experience, so we had someone else do it...twice."

I'll just stick my Valve games where they belong, on the PC.

Wow, it's just another dickslap from the PS3's steadily-thinning list of 3rd-party developers.

Sony really needs to start listening to the advice it's getting even from sellouts like Activision (i.e., console complexity, high price range, yada yada yada...).
I must've missed the part where Valve was actually a 3rd party developer for Sony...ever.

Please elaborate, on said Dick Slap.
I believe the Half-life games were ported over when they made console...excluding the episodes.

I support Valve's decision, not necessarily because I'm a Valve fanboy but because I am a programmer and a gamer who can understand the situation. It's a waste of time and money to go through extra, annoying lengths to make the CRAPPIEST version of your game.

Plus, if a player has enough money to own a PS3 in the first place, I would imagine they would have enough money to own or buy a computer capable of running Valve games. Even if Valve made a PS3 version of a game that's exactly like the PC version AND somehow has custom content enabled, the PC version would be better simply because mouse control is more precise than controllers for FPS games.

I don't like Valve, I don't like their work ethic, and I was never interested in their games to begin with.

You aren't? Great! that means 23 mill Less one. I would stay and question why you are debating something you are apparently apathetic to, but my friend is inviting me to play Left 4 Dead with him. Adios!

My Dastardly PR Senses are tingling.

If Valve really loves PS3 owners so much, they would have a dedicated team to translate games to PS3 versions already. Valve is a huge company which makes very large profits and can afford the investment.

In taking this adversarial approach, they are losing out on a profit, and the consumer is losing out on the highly prized choice to buy slightly degraded games that are still above and beyond most of the tripe that passes as modern gaming.

Make no mistake. There are no winners in this scenario.

If Treyarch can develop a game (CoD:WaW) for the PS3, and put it online, then surely Valve can put a little extra into developing and release something far superior to CoD:WaW...
To me, this just sounds like a damage limitation session from a development team that's a little too used to being able to take its time...

Like I've said all along, Valve doesn't support PS3 because they don't have the resources. The human resources.
