That was the third protester, who wasn't happy with L4D2.

We don't talk about him anymore.

Anyway, on the serious side. People seem to be deliberately ignoring the fact that at least some of the criticism directed towards L4D2 was based on worries that L4D1 would be abandoned as a $50 demo. Saying "It's Valve, they'd never do that!" was countered with the fact that, once upon a time, we all thought EA was cool and wouldn't do bad things.

On the other hand, between news that's come to light since the boycott started and now this, anyone still dedicated to the idea that L4D1 will just be left by the wayside is probably simply afraid to admit being wrong.

But seriously, guys. Not everyone that was upset about the L4D2 announcement just "wanted everything for free". Some of us just didn't want to be stuck with an unfinished $50 game while a $10 baby (TF2) kept seeing the love.
You count L4D as unfinished because they're releasing a sequel?

I know it's a bit, early, but there is nothing new about dev's saying they're going to include features in the second game that they couldn't fit in the first.

Valve are nothing like EA anyway, and EA aren't that bad anymore. The constant whining about DRM people have is grating a little now, as is the idea that EA only do cash ins and crap.

Screw the boycotters.

They can sit and whine and the rest of us will enjoy L4D2. Many people who bought at launch are still playing the game and enjoying it immensely.

Sadly, about 82% of the time, it would indeed be the case that the first game would go unfinished. (Of course, remember that 74% of statistics are made up on the spot. ;) ) The argument that "it's Valve, they'd never do that" is so far supported by history- but we've seen many, many companies start down the road that leads towards ignoring those who brought them to greatness, and even the slightest chance that Valve would go this route made some of us quite unhappy.

Now, I never signed the boycott. I felt it jumped the gun by a mile and took liberties with possible scenarios. But everyone just sneering and saying "well then don't buy the game and just shut up about it" missed the point. How would Valve know what we fans were concerned about if we "just shut up about it"? How would they know why some people didn't buy the game once it came out? There's too many people who resort to the "I'M happy with it, so what are YOU griping about?" mindset.

Holy crap you guys are assholes. People stand up for what they believe in and instantly everyone attempts to take them down, like rats gnawing on the shins of a homeless man. Get off your high horse and pull your head out of yer ass. Don't you think its bullshit you payed $50 for a game that was promised updates and DLC (like TF2) and instead to hear the sequel would be out first? I don't know about you guys but I'm not fucking rich and $50 is hard to come by between paying for College and general life expenses. I find it sick that there are still bugs and the same fucking campaign over and over and over and over. It's like I paid for some great graphicked generic zombie game.

So let me re-iterate real quick before you take me down like Mountain Dew at a WoW party. I paid $50 for 4 generic characters with nothing special...3 weapons then 3 advanced weapons...4 campaigns composed of 5 maps, half of which were released ~6 months later for versus...a BETA SDK...and a 1/2 free DLC...

Meanwhile I'd have to pay another $50 so I can get all the stuff I thought I was getting before. Sure I could totally just "play with L4D2 players cuz Hey! they connect to each other" but what the fuck does that mean? Does that mean L4D2 has all the campaigns from L4D1? How can I link up to the next game and play their shit if I don't own it...or vice versa?

Then you call everyone who's pissed they wiped Valve's ass with $50 as pussy and a cry baby and a whiner. It's like "hey i love to throw away money...i do it every day. coffee here, soda there, a couple pennies into a well, $50 on a half finished game, another $50 on its sequel, another coffee, some jelly beans." Methinks your eyes are too covered in shit to see what you paid for. I did not pay $50 for the L4D I wanted and expected. I did not pay $50 for a half hour of DLC. I didn't pay $50 for a half assed SDK when FUCKING TF2 is waggin' its cock in my face with all its free shit!

So after I got super pissed at Valve for peeing in my Cheerios, I bought Killing Floor...holy shit! These guys made Red Orchestra. Holy shit! RO has been getting FREE UPDATES FOR 3 YEARS. And Lo and Behold! Killing Floor got DLC. It as $2 for 4 more character skins, a few weeks later, they released a new map and two guns FOR FREE. Not only that, KF had a SDK WHEN IT STARTED.

So if your fine with buying another L4D game, cool, do it. I encourage you to do what you please. But seriously, these guys are fighting for free stuff...FREE STUFF. Why would you dis free shit? Its like taking a free coffee from the cafe and flinging it into server's face and telling her that she's a baby for crying. Have fun with L4D2, I'm not touching that repetitive bullshit again.

Don't waste your breath. They don't listen.

I want everyone who is whining and bitching about the boycotters to go back through this thread (or any other one discussing L4D2 for that matter) and count the number boycotter posts vs the number of anti-boycotter posts and tell me who the real "whiny attention whores" are. I'll give you a hint: it's not the boycotters. These people (and no, I'm not a boycotter) are taking a stand against something they don't agree with. Good for them! It's not preventing you from getting the game. So why do you care?

I don't know why I waste my time either though. I ask this same question in every L4D2 thread and no one can ever answer it. I guess it's just a classic case of internet debate tactics: ignore = win.

So two people bitching about the game, basically saying they don't want it to exist, get rewarded by being flown out to see the game first hand? If I'd known that could happen I'd ***** more often.

Unless of course those two 'members' were actually Valve employees who faked joining and they did this as a PR stunt to make the boycotter's STFU.
Both ways,valve are awesome.

i doubt even the most ardent of boycotters will neglect to play the inevitable demo, and if its as good as they say, it will probably quiet them.
but this is a good PR stunt.

Walking_Target... Can you explain why your group wants to Boycott Left 4 Dead 2?

How much fun do you think you're entitled to for $50? How many hours makes it a worthwhile purchase? At what point has the game company given you a fair trade?

I'm certainly willing to give Valve more money for more fun... I don't believe they OWE us more free content.

I'm not understanding how your group feels that Valve owes you anything at all, to be honest...

I got $50 of fun out the original L4D... How many hours do you have to play a game before it's worth $50?

Cable costs $50 a month... how many hours a month do you watch TV?
DVDs cost $15 each... 2 hours of fun is what you get out of that.
A book costs $7... how many hours does it take to read a good book?

How much fun is $50 worth? At what point do you get good value for your $50? After 5 hours of fun? 10 hours of fun? 50 hours of fun?

I still find L4D fun... I still play with my friends once a week (monday night is zombie night), and I occasionally jump on a quick versus game with strangers...

So boycotters are saying that L4D was a rip-off? It wasn't worth $50? and wasn't much fun??

That's a valid point of view... They shouldn't buy L4D2 then... I don't usually see or buy the sequels of crappy movies either. I don't start huge internet groups telling other people not to buy or see a sequel though...

Why are you guys so angry about this? You bought a game, didn't like it... the company is coming out with a sequel.... so don't buy it...

It's a freaking game... Get over yourselves...

First of all, I didn't start the group, I joined it at 10k members. And we are bitching together because we have felt an injustice. Why don't you turn your rage on something that actually needs to be put down, like Mormons, Scientology, and rapists. Isn't there a better cause for you to focus on than a bunch of boycotters who think they bought a half-finished game?

Am I the only one seeing this as Valve's huge mistake? Release the SAME GAME only actually UPDATED 1 year later for the same price. I mean TF2 has been out forever and it is getting so much free updates, its crazy. I feel that Valve is slowly turning into EA by just associating themselves with them. I mean you have to BUY THE GAME FOR THE DEMO. Who the fuck does that?

It's this complete disregard for the first L4D that started this whole boycott. It's like they saw it as a lost cause and decided to scrap improving it just so they could rebuilt the same game with slightly better stuff and pump it into the gaming market. I don't want to feel like a Madden fan being ripped off every year because the latest game has the roster updates and some tweaked features.

$50 is a lot of money. I don't care who you are, $50 is a shit ton of money. I don't buy cable, I don't buy DVDs. I do buy books but thats just because only social inept people read book on computers. I pay $40 a month for internet and thats my only real bill besides cellphone.

I did play L4D since the day it came out until early summer of '09 though. That's ~5 months of me playing the SAME thing over and over. When I realized that there was nothing new coming and that instead a sequel would be released in LESS THAN A YEAR (by one day :p) I was pissed. Half-assed SDK, same gameplay no matter what campaign or if it was versus or coop, it was the same thing. Only 8 weapons? Including dual wielding pistols? That's bullshit. Now they come out saying "New guns! New infected! Melee weapons!" Holy shit! Really? All the things we should have gotten in the first place?

And don't go onto my steam page and say "Dude you've only played 7 games." Because the system wasn't implemented until mid '09. I literally played more than sleep and work combined. Me and Hex-Rei freakin' carved out every strategy in the game WHEN IT CAME OUT. I built a lot of the L4D wiki WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT.

L4D was not worth $50. It was worth ~$30. It doesn't take a time limit to say how good a game is. It takes you looking back and seeing if you regret spending that much time on a video game, and I do regret L4D. A $10 book is worth more than L4D, it lasts longer and has more diversity.

I'm not going to tell you not to buy whatever you want, I'm just telling you my opinion. I tolerate your opinion but as soon as you mock me for my beliefs, that is an asshole move. I come up with decent arguments for why I shouldn't buy it and why I think its a rip off and everyone else comes around to troll it because they love the game. That's fine. I'm not attacking you. I'm attacking the game. And if its just a game to you, why can't you let me bicker about it?
