I think this is really good, despite the fact I am a PC gamer. If every developer was to do this, I could play Farcry 2 and GTA IV with my friends, who all have PS3s.

Wait, so people who get portal 2 for PS3 get it also for their PC?
that
is
FANTASTIC.

Even though i do not own a PS3, a friend of mine did, and he pre-ordered it for the PS3, and i was mad at him, for not buying it for the PC (i wanted to do the coop campaign with him).
Now i can stop raging at him.

What's wrong with cross-console co-op? Or cross-console multiplayer? I honestly think its a step in the right direction. This way, it won't matter what system you buy. If a game is on multiple consoles, you can play with all your Xbox owning friends if you have a Wii or a PS3 (ideally).
I explained what I meant by that further down the page.

I think it's nice that Valve is opening up to PS3 owners. I don't think it's a sign of the apocalypse, or of Valve's intention to shaft Xbox owners. I think they'd just like to expand their market base, and realise that they've left PS3 owners out in the cold a little, so they're making a gesture toward those gamers (who obviously, by the look of this thread alone, have strong feelings about being 'left out' by a studio) who might have held it against them up until now.

My assumption would be that once they feel they have pacified the PS3 crowd (i.e. by this deal), Valve will just release their games for every platform as evenly as they can, and things will return to the status quo. (Or, at least, people can go hound another studio about their 'unfair' PS3/Xbox exclusives).

You can't blame Valve for wanting a slice of the PS3 pie, it's just as strong a console as the 360.

wow. I wonder what will come next from this new PS3-Steam interconnectivity. Maybe they will allow downloads of previous and future Steam games on the PS3. L4D2 for PS3 maybe?

Why would you want it on more than one platform anyway?
I would, as a friend of mine is going to get it on the ps3, but I want custom maps. Now I can play with him, have custom maps, and even get trophies as a bonus!

I'm really, really happy they did this.
No I get the positivity of the cross platform play, but why give PS3 owners an extra PC copy? It's by no means a bad move, I think it's quite cool, but I don't see the huge positivity of it.

This is amazing! My computer is being dodgy so I was worried I wouldn't be able to play portal 2, so I was tempted to buy the PS3 version. Now I don't have to choose.

Good move for Valve too. PS3 owners will install Steam and maybe buy more games from it. Certainly can't hurt.

Huh...I was planning on buying the 360 version of Portal 2, simply because I never play the PS3 I own. (Not really mine; I think I've played one game on it.) But seeing this, I might get it for the PS3 just to have it free on Steam.

Then again...I could care less. The 360 is my home, and there I shall stay.

Well I guess thats one reason to get it for a console, but otherwise PC all the way. That is if you can run it. Would never get anything for console that I could get for PC.

Damn, the Ps3 is getting it good lately, hasn't it? It gets a few Mass Effect 2 DLCs for free and now a whole extra copy of a game for free?

Jaysus, VALVe, I really don't know what to say.

If that's the case, and there are no other strings attached to this, I am totally getting this for Ps3 for the trophies and PC achievements I will get because of it.

Hey, it's a reason to get it, not the only reason.

this pleases me.

Now if only they could make every steam game operate onteh PS3, then I could play all the games that come out on steam that I'd like to, instead of being held back by my laptop's integrated card.

It does seem a bit unfair if the deal doesn't work the other way around as well. You should be able to buy the PC version and get the PS3 version for free, maybe as a PSN download.
wouldn't it cost the same if you just buy the ps3 version first?

And that's why I said what I said. I want to play on the ps3, but I still want mods. This is the best of both.

Besides, the ps3 probably has split screen support, which would be great.

Wow. I wasn't even going to buy it for the PS3. Now, however I will. I'll probably play the PC version more, but at least I have the option.
