Replace "go drink some tea" with "get back in the kitchen where you belong" and maybe Valve would understand why female gamers aren't big on using mics either.
I think this deserves an honourable mention. I hadn't thought of that.
It's either that or "are you hot? Are you single?" Christ, I just want to shoot somebody in the head, not hook up.
Yeah but, are you?
I kid. Seriously though it can be a bit unnerving when you've got 3 people talking away and you just want to play, but at the same time know you're going to have to talk to them. Especially if they're those aggressive loud types who yell 'VETO VETO. VETO YOU FUCKIN FAGS'

we are British.

We dont talk, we KICK ASS.

we have no use for our vocal cords in video games, we only need a mouse MUHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA, and preferably a keyboard but a mouse will do just fine, for our level of kick assery we need only a mouse.

ehm sorry about that.

Rare is the FPS I've played where I didn't feel my IQ had dropped after a session listening to the voice com of the other players. I fear attempting to engage with them might make the drop permanent.

I absolutely know you're joking, but I love the logic of asking a woman if she's hot. Like she's going to say no, or even be hot if she says yes.

Makes you wonder what the reaction would be if they just outright said "No."

It's a fun one alright. I just rest easy knowing the knuckle-draggers who talk to women like that will most likely end up in a relationship where communication is usually bawled over the cries of unwanted children.
Now I'm no American, but...

They'd insult you for being ugly and fat and ugly and ugly and fat and ugly.

In that order.

I have faith in humanity, honest!

If I need to talk, like informing my squad that a tank is just around the next corner, I talk. If its nattering foolishness, then I count myself out (unless I'm playing with my mates). Never really had a problem with yanks (or anyone else, for that matter) putting me down because I'm a Brit.

To be honest, most games don't require a great deal of communication. Games like ArmA or Project Reality, where an individual cant deal entirely effectivly with a normal contact, do need more, but you can still keep it clipped and consice.

on PC games I tend to join and exaggerate my accent to the point of hilarity; I've made many friends in online games...
Although i'm reasonably posh naturally I believe.

Yea the whole Accent thing really bites me in the arse. Since I live in 'The Valleys' (That's Wales for anyone who doesn't understand) my accent is the bane of trying to work as a team.
Many a teamkill hath happend on my behalf from people acting like pricks.

The reason I don't talk (with people I don't know) on xbox live is because when ever I do all the American guys are like "Oh my god you're British!" and "Fuck you Commy!" which makes no sense. And you can guarantee some bloody idiot is gonna brag about how America saved our ass in WW2, IT HAPPENED 70 YEARS AGO, JUST FORGET ABOUT IT, you've already tarnished your reputation with the whole middle east fiasco. Seriously they're so proud you would think they were there at Normandy storming the beaches, even though none of them were alive when it happened.

So basically Chet, I would rather not speak at all than talk to you morons.

See, maybe instead of telling British gamers to speak up, they should tell American gamers to quiet down. There's a difference between "Talking" and "Communicating". When I've played with British people in the past, it's been far more cohesive and team oriented, because people only speak when it's necessary.

So things like, on Halo, instead of spewing a clear stream of rubbish, even if it occasionally includes some directions or indication of direction, my British fellows were more likely to simply say, "I'm going left." "I'm going right." "I need help." Instead of a screamed "Get your asses over here you jerks i'm being pinned down by some etc." And an Ass is a donkey, my good man.

Also, your accent sounds just as silly to me as mine does to you, do I comment on it Mr American? Maybe that's why we're so silent, because every other word is an insult.

I say if they want Brits and others to talk, we should talk, but we only use words Americans don't know the meaning of like queue, rugby or bollocks.

Doesnt he realise that once you say one thing you get racial slurs and a shitstorm comes down on you. I used to go into mtahces when bored, intentionally say "Hi guys" and then when they come back at me, I'd already have something gunning for them, and blast, one time my dad came in and told me to STFu or he'd take it off me coz the yanks couldnt be that bad, I told him to take the mic, well that wasa bad move because he stayed on the mic calling them every racist thing under the sun simply because of the shit they were coming out with and they were unprovoked, look I've got one mate whos American and he's great get along with him really well, but in video games they band together and act all tough over the mic, no offence but it really pisses me off when people say come to my town/state/country and I'll fight you. Seriously how big is their ego, Someone said that to me the otherday, a New Zealander, because I live in Aus, and a load of New Zealanders told him to STFU and that they'd all fight him, needless to say. He dropped out of the day. Lol. Lol indeed.
