I'll be waiting for the zealot Half-life fans to cry foul.
Fixed.

If they spent more time on HL2E3 as they are on the PS3 then it would have been done by now
Are you being serious or are you just doing an impersonation?

It sucks that Portal 2 has to wait till they can make it work on PS3 tho.
How far up your arse did you have to go to pull that one out?

Screw long term support, I just want an updated Team Fortress 2 dammit!
Very this.
Also, I hope this doesn't mean Valve won't support the 360 anymore. The 360 is going to be the only console (besides the Wii) without Steamworks soon. It's great that they're expanding from the PC, but the 360 should be included in their expansion too.

Totally agreed, I mean, I'm something of a PS3 fangirl, but 360 owners have been loyal supporters of Valve, so it'd be a real jerk move, not to mention an immensely stupid one, to make it appear that they're being kicked to the curb.
Unfortunately that's Microsoft's call, not Valve's. Same reason Valve DLC costs on the 360; MS refuse to let (what they classify as) premium content go for free on XBL.

Funny how they're eating their own words after realizing the PS3 wasn't a horrible failure like Gabe said.

Oh well. We all make mistakes. Update TF2 and I'd call it even.

So are we gonna get the extra Portal levels or either Left for Dead?

That would make me, as a PS3 owner, a little better.

I'll have a PS3 in about a week or maybe wait until October, so as of now I don't have one. (That is said to preface my comment so people know I don't have one and am not being a fanboy)

This is good news for PS3 owners but it doesn't matter to me a bit since I really haven't cared for any Valve game I've ever played (one way or another they're all FPS games, which I can't stand). I have the Orange Box for my 360 (but that's only because I never get rid of Christmas presents) but I think it's been in my system for a total of three or four hours in two years.

Still, it can only be good for Sony to take up the slack where MicroSoft (no $) decided to go another route, the same that it's good that Nintendo went a different route with the Wii. It would be stupid for all three companies to be carbon copies of each other and do nothing but stagnate the industry and force you to have really only one choice. This way, there are three choices, each having a different feel and games which in the long run can only be seen as good for gaming as a whole (and yes that includes the Wii since while many say it is a kids and "casual" console, you have to get those people to start somewhere before they are comfortable with the more intricate games).

I doubt that microsoft would ever allow valve to bring steamworks t the yboxlive shop, since its free and everything.
It's neither a jerk move nor stupid, it's what you can do on the different platforms, xbox live is alot more restrictive then ps3 or pc, but less then wii.
EA may disagree with you. AFAIK they had dedicated servers up for Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, and Xbox Live don't do dedicated servers.
With ps3 players playing on them too? and seperated friendlists? Maybe it has that idk but steamworks seems like something bigger then your usuall dedicated servers.
Wouldn't mind it getting released on 360 and im sure its going to happen if m-soft agrees on that deal but it seems unlikly that they would change the live rules like that.
Edit Oh you meant on the Wii, didn't realize that you bolded sth in my post.

Count me in agreement as well, it would be downright mean to toss the 360 and all of the support from that aside like used rag.

The news sounded great up until that reminder about the "waste of time." Hmmm, now that the PS3 is looking sharp, maybe the money fans are worthy enough? But hey, great company sharing the wealth with everybody (hopefully), that's just happiness. :)
The reason Steamworks is being brought to the PS3 and not to the 360 is because of the way LIVE is built compared to the PSN. LIVE is a closed system, tightly controlled by Microsoft and their money-scrambling ways, while the PSN has a more open system, so developers can mold the online experience however they like, within reason, and dear god I sound like a Sony/VALVe sales representative.
That was what I was thinking, as I remember the whole issue with Unreal Tournament 3 having mods for the PSN, while the 360 got shafted because Microsoft is so anal about keeping Live as its stale tyranny. When I only had a 360, there was a glimmer of hope that XBL would actually expand, but they refused back then to maintain their status quo because Live is to be closed and secure with standards. Oh wait [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.227148-Hackers-Claim-to-Have-Grabbed-Halo-Reach-From-Microsoft-Site]

Regardless, I'm glad I have both consoles now, so hopefully this will lead to really good things from Valve.

Valve is a really smart company.
They make themselves out as the good guys, and we love them for it.
They rarely punish and are usually justified if they do.

...I don't think that's happening. According to MS, XBL and the internet are two different things - which is why FFXIV is skipping the 360 altogether.

I thought it was illegal to backtrack that fast without some kind of warning... Ah well, good for Valve I guess, now I get to not give a shit about them on a whole new console...
W00t, finally found a comment that makes sense.

I may be wrong but aren't we talking about a developer here that creates nothing but 1st-person-shooters? Talk about being one-dimensional.
As for steam... well I guess it's great for people that care about it.

This whole Steam on PS3 thing seems to be really overlooked. Outside of a few other websites, nobody has really mentioned anything.

But I would be pretty suspicious with this short episode of going from one end of the hate spectrum aaaalll the way to the love end. Or something like that at least...

But I'm happy to see support.
I too am glad to see them get over themselves and I'm suspicious too.

I get the feeling that the Valve board members weren't too happy when the slim started selling well and told the devs to get their shit together and pretend its ice cream.

They don't want to NOT make money from another section of the market that's pretty much identical.

Im pretty sure Valve hates Micro$oft now because Micro$oft wouldn't let Valve release TF2 updates on Xbox for free. Prolly why they suddenly like the PS3 now

When Newell said that PS3s were a waste of time, I decided that his sales figures for PS3 releases were a waste of time.

For PS3 games, I'll still be taking my money elsewhere.

"PS3 is incredibly important to us," he said.
...now that he needs Sony to like his company. I really resented the no Left 4 Dead and ignored Orange box we got.

"We don't feel that the PS3 users had the Valve experience that we like to deliver ... so in that case it's incredibly important to us [that] we kind of fix everything wrong in the products that we delivered before for the PS3, which we thought were good but weren't quite the Valve experience."
I'll believe it when I see it Gabe. I will personally edit this post on this thread and scratch out these words if I see an update for it anytime soon.

I like Valve, I really do. I just feel I wasted my money on the Orange Box for the PS3. We should have had this support a year ago Gabe!

/rant

Now that my rant is over, I really hope the concept of "valve time" doesn't come into play as I wait for this update.

More proof that $ony and Valve want to make make money!
Ehh... what did you think those two massive companies wanted to make before? Ice cream?
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

It's nice to see people overcoming adversity to join up for a profit! I have no problem with that.
