If that happened, I would be annoyed. Since I gave up waiting to see how The Orange Box's future on the PS3would turn out a few days a go...

...

Then I'll Play some TF2 and forget about it.

From the sounds of this, does that mean they're going to redo the Orange Box so it's actually a high-quality port and not the messy drivel that EA spurted out?
If that's the case, it better let PS3 users play with PC/Mac users, then, having the PS3 and PC versions will be an advantage.

If I recall correctly, one of the main reasons they were never interested in developing for the PS3 before was because they had no one on staff experienced with it at the time, or interested in learn. Which is why the orange box was ported by another dev.

Not that it really excuses them to PS3 gamers for not working on getting a PS3 dev team earlier, but as a PC gamer, having a console miss out for a bit while they get the games ready for it doesn't give me too much trouble.

Sounds a lot like "We've just realised a lot of money could come from the ps3, please forgive me and buy my games".

I don't hold anything against them though they're a brilliant developer. You don't need to ask for forgiveness *hugs* just keep makin awesome games :3

Oh and i just thought, only console owners will have a real physical copy of Valve games, huzzar! No digital distribution for us ^_^
I'm sure Valve will be nice enough to work something out for PC owners though once their servers finally give in. At least i hope so, i've got a ton of games on Steam D:
my friends got a real physical copy of L4D on the PC....its from the week when Valve relised not everyone has steam lol

I see what you did there...

That just gave me an awesome idea though. Assuming the re-release the Orange Box, they could have the class-updates out of the box, and because Sony won't charge people for any future content updates, they MIGHT be able to do it cross platform. The PS3 has keyboard and mouse support after all, so there wouldn't even be the problem of the uneven playing field due to different controllers. That... would be a glorious sight to behold.

Dude... it's steamworks... I am officially jealous of the ps3 owner at this point. You will get everything updated always. Microsoft had best step up it's game on the digital delivery support for Xbox, or I'm probably jumping ship next console gen.

The main thing about steamworks that I like is that you have access to retail games as downloads on release day. That's where the Live service falls behind big time. Games are not on demand til they are old news. I'm not sure if Valves change of heart came from gaining an affection for the hardware, or just a need for it's share of the market, or perhaps a big check from sony. Either way, this brings some more of that PC advantage to the console market and I'm excited to see how it effects the next console gen.

I hope Valve eventually realise that if they updated TF2 for the PS3 then more people would buy the Orange Box for PS3!

As long as Steamworks becomes the best thing ever to happen to the PS3 then I am happy!

I'd hate to gun down your idea, but wouldn't Microsoft have a bitchy hissy fit about Steamworks (since it's free content) and I heard EA attempted to connect an 360 to PS3, I also heard it didn't work.

I'm not talking about Microsoft at all buddy, I'm talking about the PS3, Sony's the boss-man in this case. And by cross platform, I mean between PC/Mac and PS3. I thought what I was saying was pretty clear, didn't read all of the quote?

PS3 is really starting to kick some ass in the console market. Exclusive content everywhere, plenty of exclusive titles scheduled, and PSmove (which is at least better than kinect IMO)

More proof that $ony and Valve want to make make money!

They must be greed whores for thinking this way, that or it's just simple business.

It sucks that Portal 2 has to wait till they can make it work on PS3 tho.

I hope it doesn't suffer like other late coming multiplatform games on PS3.

Too late Valve, I've had to put up with glitchy sounds and map hacks in Team Fortress 2 since the orange box was released on the P.S.3.

Wait, the PS3 has keyboard and mouse support? But that means... oh my bloody god! Can you just imagine how brilliant that would be? Being able to access any game on your PS3 from Steam. Being able to play against anyone on a PC, or Mac. Being constantly updated for free. And all of this as a solid advantage against the 360. That does it; Valve do that, and the PS3 is pretty much the best console out there. Not that it isn't now, (barring PC's.)

When I finished reading that post, the word "cross platform" that made me think you mentioned Microsoft as some point and I didn't think to double check.

I wonder how Steamworks on the PSN will work, and more specifically, who will pay for the bandwidth charge?

Since Sony charges the developers for the bandwidth used for all downloads, will Valve have to pay these charges for every game, demo and update they release, and will these charges be passed on to the customer (like no sales or special offers, or no free demos and updates)?

I've noticed that on my PC, some of Steam's updates for Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2 are pretty big and occur quite frequently, and when you multiply these large and frequent updates by the potential number of PS3 owners with Steamworks, that's going to quite a lot of bandwidth charges (and a high monetary amount) which will either have to be accounted for, or written off by Sony.

Also, if Sony starts writing off these charges for Valve, but not for other developers, then that could cause animosity and dissuade other developers from releasing content on the PSN.

I suppose the simplest solution would be for Sony to make Steamworks and Valve games only available to PSN+ members, so that these download charges and bandwidth costs will be recouped by the subscriptions.

Apparently they've got some ex-Naughty Dog employees working for them now, which should help a lot.

What I assume happened here was Microsoft shovelled money down their throats to slag the ps3 off, now things are going tits up with them they're going to try to do the same thing with Sony for the 360.
