It's not so much as Valve being dicks as it is Microsoft refusing to allow Steamworks integration in their LIVE system.megs1120 said:Totally agreed, I mean, I'm something of a PS3 fangirl, but 360 owners have been loyal supporters of Valve, so it'd be a real jerk move, not to mention an immensely stupid one, to make it appear that they're being kicked to the curb.Colonel Alzheimer said:Very this. The Austin said:Screw long term support, I just want an updated Team Fortress 2 dammit!
Also, I hope this doesn't mean Valve won't support the 360 anymore. The 360 is going to be the only console (besides the Wii) without Steamworks soon. It's great that they're expanding from the PC, but the 360 should be included in their expansion too.

Yeah, you can play UT3 with keyboard and mouse on the PS3 for instance. Although it wouldn't be quite as good as you're describing it. Games would have to be ported over to the PS3, and seeing as it's very different to code for as opposed to a PC, it wouldn't work like this. But, like how they have Steam-play or whatever it's called that means if you buy a Valve game for PC you can also play it on Mac, they could do something similar for the PS3.JaymesFogarty said:Wait, the PS3 has keyboard and mouse support? But that means... oh my bloody god! Can you just imagine how brilliant that would be? Being able to access any game on your PS3 from Steam. Being able to play against anyone on a PC, or Mac. Being constantly updated for free. And all of this as a solid advantage against the 360. That does it; Valve do that, and the PS3 is pretty much the best console out there. Not that it isn't now, (barring PC's.)Mr. Mike said:I see what you did there...Mr. Gency said:If that's the case, it better let PS3 users play with PC/Mac users, then, having the PS3 and PC versions will be an advantage.Mr. Mike said:From the sounds of this, does that mean they're going to redo the Orange Box so it's actually a high-quality port and not the messy drivel that EA spurted out?Logan Westbrook said:"We don't feel that the PS3 users had the Valve experience that we like to deliver ... so in that case it's incredibly important to us [that] we kind of fix everything wrong in the products that we delivered before for the PS3, which we thought were good but weren't quite the Valve experience."
That just gave me an awesome idea though. Assuming the re-release the Orange Box, they could have the class-updates out of the box, and because Sony won't charge people for any future content updates, they MIGHT be able to do it cross platform. The PS3 has keyboard and mouse support after all, so there wouldn't even be the problem of the uneven playing field due to different controllers. That... would be a glorious sight to behold.
The reason Steamworks is being brought to the PS3 and not to the 360 is because of the way LIVE is built compared to the PSN. LIVE is a closed system, tightly controlled by Microsoft and their money-scrambling ways, while the PSN has a more open system, so developers can mold the online experience however they like, within reason, and dear god I sound like a Sony/VALVe sales representative.SelectivelyEvil13 said:Count me in agreement as well, it would be downright mean to toss the 360 and all of the support from that aside like used rag.megs1120 said:Totally agreed, I mean, I'm something of a PS3 fangirl, but 360 owners have been loyal supporters of Valve, so it'd be a real jerk move, not to mention an immensely stupid one, to make it appear that they're being kicked to the curb.Colonel Alzheimer said:Very this. The Austin said:Screw long term support, I just want an updated Team Fortress 2 dammit!

The news sounded great up until that reminder about the "waste of time." Hmmm, now that the PS3 is looking sharp, maybe themoneyfans are worthy enough? But hey, great company sharing the wealth with everybody (hopefully), that's just happiness.
Steamworks PS3 integration is for Portal 2 only.Soviet Heavy said:As well as the huge number of patches for Half Life 2, and the Portal Radio Update.Irridium said:So PS3 gets Steamworks? Does that mean TF2 will get all the juicy, juicy updates?
I doubt that microsoft would ever allow valve to bring steamworks t the yboxlive shop, since its free and everything.megs1120 said:Totally agreed, I mean, I'm something of a PS3 fangirl, but 360 owners have been loyal supporters of Valve, so it'd be a real jerk move, not to mention an immensely stupid one, to make it appear that they're being kicked to the curb.Colonel Alzheimer said:Very this. The Austin said:Screw long term support, I just want an updated Team Fortress 2 dammit!

EA may disagree with you. AFAIK they had dedicated servers up for Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, and Xbox Live don't do dedicated servers.GiantRedButton said:I doubt that microsoft would ever allow valve to bring steamworks t the yboxlive shop, since its free and everything.
It's neither a jerk move nor stupid, it's what you can do on the different platforms, xbox live is alot more restrictive then ps3 or pc, but less then wii.
How dare they stimulate the economy!?!?! Those basterds. They are almost as evil is Microsoft!!!!!!111!!1!!!one!1111!Noelveiga said:Ehh... what did you think those two massive companies wanted to make before? Ice cream?NotSoNimble said:More proof that $ony and Valve want to make make money!
