Loathe snipers. That's why I set them on fire whenever I can. BURN!
Flare gun sniping is good fun, especially when you hit a sniper and bork their aim.

I play a decent sniper in games like Halo, but then again, Halo makes it too easy, with the 6X-12X scopes on every sniping weapon, the large clip size on the human sniper, the no reloading on the covenant sniper, and the assisted aiming. I prefer playing as a sniper in TF2, because you actually need to TRY to hit what you're blasting at. In Halo, I could read a damn book, and still pull off one or two snipes.

One of his new weapons will be a jar of piss to throw at enemies to stun them or something.

Snipers are really a good class, it's just 95% of them, like 95% of Hunters in World of Warcraft, are all populated by morons. The good Snipers are self-explanitory: they do their job from any distance from the enemy team, with a sniper rifle or the kurki. The bad ones are the ones who just sit on the battlements at 2Fort or stand on some vantage point and miss headshots or have sniper duels with other Snipers and inevitably lose. Admittedly I'm not a good Sniper. Never have been, never will be. But those good Snipers will still be hard to pick out in a fight among the bad ones. Hopefully this update will help bring a separation between the good ones and the bad ones.

And I wouldn't count on getting a 360 update until after the Sniper update. Valve has already said that there's graphical, storage and processing limitations on the 360 that aren't as rampant on the PC, so I would keep waiting for the Heavy, Pyro, Medic, Scout and Sniper updates on 360.

And of course, Valve refuses to listen to my suggestions for a Soldier update...

Well, who do you think is weaker than the Sniper?
Let's see.
Demoman has no short range weapon.
Pyro is useless at long range and a prime target for the Spy.
Heavy is only useful with backup.
Medic is very useful, as is Spy, Soldier.
Scout is OP against a small server, but loses to large servers.
Engie is good all round but suffers heavily to a good spy or a rotten team.
The only thing a Sniper can't do well is self-defence or capture, and with that range, who needs to?

As for upgrades, Backburner/Flare Gun/Axtinguisher are situational only.
Bonk!, Force of Nature and Slugger are great tools that really enhance.
Sasha is only good on defence, Sandvich is essential and KGB is automatic.
Blutsauger and the Ubersaw are must haves, Blitzkrieg is situational.

So, rating them in terms of strength I'd say Soldier, Spy, Demoman, Scout, Sniper, Medic, Engineer, Heavy, Pyro.

It it's defence: Sniper, Engie, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Scout, Soldier, Spy, Medic
You're the worst TF2 player ever.

The Sniper does not have a semi-auto - the Sniper has a kukri and a sniper rifle. If you think anything else, you cannot play the Sniper well.

Upgrades?

Blutsauger and Ubersaw are both uber, yes.

Sandvich, Bonk, Kritzkrieg and Backburner are situational.

Sandman, FAN, Sasha, KGB and the Axtinguisher all require skill in different ways to be useful. Hardest of those two being FAN and KGB, which require an enormous amount of skill to use properly.

Flare Gun is useless. The shotgun is better in every situation except Arena and 2fort sniper wars.

Pyros are nowhere *near* a good target for a Spy. You need a real skill gap or a latency gap for the Spy to get the edge.

Heavies depend heavily on shotguns if they're alone - and if they're in a team, they have a medic anyway. This makes the sandvich a tricky proposition as well. They're, however, formidable opponents alone.

Scouts alone against a populated server can work if you're good, but more often you move in packs of 2-3 scouts. Which are surprisingly deadly. And they're not OP with a small population either - they have 125 health and do catch on fire.

Engies don't lose to spies, they lose to spies and distraction - unless there's a gigantic skill cap, but I've seen a scout strafe a L3 sentry, so well.

Interesting. My guess is a sniper that causes more damage the less distance you are from the target. Which would pretty much defeat the purpose of the sniper, but hey, some snipers are good at that sort of thing.

Actually, it's really hard to convince them to do it, but if I can crit-uber a sniper with his machine gun, it can do a lot of damage. The 2 times I've done it, no one sees it coming.

Ironically, I don't play the sniper. I'm not good enough for headshots.

Bring it.
And stats have so much to do with your skill as opposed to opponent skill right? ;p

I don't really think my dozen-backstabs-in-a-row runs are because I'm a good spy, it was because of a good team and a truly atrocious opponent team.

Of course, I reset my stats as soon as the option was available. Playing gimmick matches and custom, broken maps tends to do things such as set your kills in one life as a heavy to 300. Literally.

Just saying I'm hardly the worst. I'm usually in the top 3 on most servers.

Yeah, it's a pain in the ass when you're demolishing a team like last night. Poor bastards couldn't get out of the spawn for half the game.

I try to stay away from custom maps by going on the Doorman is God/saigns.de servers; there's usually a good 20 people on there, even if some of them are bots.

YMMV with who you kill/be killed by, but I've seen a lot of effective snipers with machine guns if they're trying to push forward. And the problem with the sniper is that aim-bots are very difficult to spot, superfast/supercloaked spies turn up far more frequently, to the point where playing an Engie is pointless on some maps when the cheaters jump on.

I think that if they made it so that you had the option to take off your scope and add iron sights for faster shots or more power then that could work out well. Either way it would bring Snipers in closer.

Hope its not another Sandman type unlock.

(VERY unbalanced).
Yes because the ball is magically attracted to the foreheads of enemies, give me a break. Nothing is ever guaranteed with the Sandman, just like nothing's guaranteed with much of anything in TF2, unless we're talking the Backburner which is pretty much guaranteed to oneshot anybody/kill a heavy in a couple seconds if a pyro gets at someone's back. Hate that weapon so much (and yes I realize the irony of complaining about the Backburner while defending The Sandman, but one of those has been banned in League play and the other hasn't)

Anyway I think an ironsights/semiauto rifle upgrade for the sniper would be interesting.
