Heh, I started reading "Valve Unveils Long-Awaited ....."
OH MY god. Is the long waiting over ????????
Exactly what I was thinking. Mind, I'm happy with now being able to play the game and let updating wait.

Screw Steam improvements...how about Valve unveils the ACTUALLY long awaited Half-life episode 3? I don't recall sitting around awaiting Steam enhancements...
You know people us Steam for few others games than just Half-life series... I think majority of people use it for something else than Half-life.

They must be a evil corporation, because they made something that made general experience with their product more pleasurable and therefor made large target audience happy.
Oh poor you for not getting your wishes trough... Oh well better luck next time.
Oh and btw, Steam developers and the game makers are separated teams; You are acting like someone who yells to the WoW gm's to get the Starcraft 2 ladder working again... Same building, wrong door...

I think you took me a bit too seriously...

YES! I had to wait and play a non-steam game while downloading something yesterday! Finally!
When you start a steam game alt tab out, resume the steam download and then go back into the game and the download continues, unless you meant that the game you wanted to play was downloading, in that case sorry for wasting your time.

FINALLY!....
during the summer sale downloading anything was torturous.

*click download*
"We currently can't handle that request. Try again later."
*10+ minutes of clicking the download button*
yay it started downloading!
*I realize it's going at 20-50KB/s*
WTF!......*slits own throat*

If one of those long-awaited improvements isn't the addition of Half-Life 3 to the New Releases page, then who gives a shit.

About got damn time I say.

Seriously, it took them this long to let us download stuff while we play? That's just silly.

All the other stuff is awesome. And everything in there basically fixed all the issues I had with Steam. Now the only problems I have is being forced to run Steam to play games(pretty minor since Steam uses so little memory, but it's the principle of the thing that counts), and that some games force others to use Steam when they don't want to have anything to do with the service. Though I suppose the latter is the fault of the publisher that decides to use Steam. And I suppose it's better than whatever hilariously shitty DRM solution they would use otherwise...

Still i could not get my download speed on steam to go higher than 650k, i was hoping to download Portal 2 like in an hour, took almost 6 hours.. blah..

(And look, no fat jokes)
But you posted a video featuring Heavy.

OT, this is good news once I can log into Steam again. It certainly is a torturous process waiting for a perfectly servicable game to update.

Apologies to all for not making the obligatory "where is Episode 3" comment.

WHERE IS EPISODE 3 DAMMIT?
Played it

Beat it

Was not happy with how GLaDOS killded everyone in the first cutsceen and then made it a portal game.

Halflife Portal 3

Yay faster downloads while in game! I can say I am happy with this info.

Can they fix the play offline option too? Sometimes my internet goes down and for some odd reason you need to be connected to the internet to play offline. Go figure...

W000000000000000t!!!
This would have been needed for the summer sale, but good enough.
The ability to prioritize downloads is the big news for me, finally!!

Faster Staem?

Me gusta.

Now just release Episode 3 and I will retract all bad things I ever said about Valve.

Ads before Capcha. I am about to say bad things about the Escapist.

"With the Steam content system that's been in place for a few years now, if an individual file on disk were modified by a game update, your client had to download the whole file. That can be painful when the file in question is really large. The new system supports delivering only the differences between the old and new files, meaning game updates will be much smaller overall."
So........a patch then? Wow, that's new! *rolls eyes*

On topic, never had a problem with Steam downloads here...but then I have a 50Mbps connection so... :-D Steam and Microsoft's web site are the only two places I've ever maxed out my connection (just over 4 megabytes per second). At good times, I can get an entire 5-7gig game off steam in about 20 minutes or less.

EDIT: If the HTTP thing is true, then YAAAAY! Finally can get steam to work at my workplace through the firewall.
