I would rather have a bad looking box-cover than a bad game.

But when you think about it, Valve is a human company and therefore fallible (i,e, not perfect) so having bad box-art must be some sort of cosmic balance thing.

It is a functional box art. Supposedly in the co-op one robot does the jumping feats and the other has to manage some portals for the first one. So that's pretty much how the game is gonna work.

Like the borderlands box art being that dude getting shot in the head. That's exactly what happens, a lot.

Looks descent enough. Not that I'll look at it much, as I probably am going to pick it off Steam. Except when it's cheaper somewhere else.

Don't care, it's never going to show up on Steam.

I stopped worrying about box-art and, yes, even manuals, when I started buying games for dirty, dirty prices.
New games aren't that much cheaper on Steam. Yeah they have awesome sales (14. new. games...WHYYY!!!) but new games are just as expensive as store-bought ones, sometimes even worse. Main example being Black Ops. It's freakin' 60 euros on Steam, bought it for 40 in a regular internet shop.

Yeah, they should have gone with a minimalist look, like one of the instructional graphics at the beginning of a stage.

I don't remember when the last time was, when I bought a retail game from Valve. So, I don't really care about the boxart here anyway.

Haha, you guys are so fast. This box art has been out for three days now.

And yes, it's ugly. But i ask you - was Orange Box art pretty? And, yet, it contained some of the best games ever made.

Valve has never really been good with it's box art outside of the Left 4 Dead games, most of them just been mug shots of the characters inside the game (Team Forest 2, the Half Lifes, etc.).

Well it is meh but box art has never really been Valves strong point.
It?s a bit of a shame I suppose.

I don't get why a surly, ugly looking man and a silly looking "femme fatale" were OK on the Mass Effect 2 cover, but this is cool? I'm with Andy here, I think it's really ugly. It's just not aestheticly pleasing. My life drawing coach would have a seizure if she saw this.

I was expecting something minmalist, like just the portal logo or something.

The cover art reflects, as you already mentioned, co-op. And co-op is a really huge selling point of the game. I think the model for the character jumping from portal to portal is ugly though, I can sympathize with you there.

Is it just me or does turret-bot resemble a (headless) robotic Chell?

Well, mine are often cheaper - for some reason publishers have decided the euro = the dollar.

It's not exactly attention-grabbing.. Maybe if they made the jumping robot a little more dynamic, facing the viewer or something like that.
