If it means getting the L4D DLC and actually having the TF2 DLC on the 360, by all means, go right ahead. Who knows? We could also see mods on the console versions too. If Valve actually shafts Microsoft like they did with EA and Sony, well then, this could be entertaining.
I would be good with Valve just making sure that TF2 works on Xbox 360 and doesn't force me to play sniper all the time, but mods and dlc don't sound too bad either.

If XBLA actually gets Steam, then this will be both good, and bad. Let me explain:

Steam is a great service, and expanding to service to other platforms will benefit everyone using it.

However, it is becoming more and more obvious that VALVe will soon be a video game monopoly. Expanding the service will increase their profit, meaning more ways for them to expand. Plus with Steam on other platforms, we may start seeing more multi-platform releases, meaning more sales on Steam. Eventually, they could be controlling a large chunk of the market. But eh, that's a really far-fetched theory. Plus Microsoft won't want other companies making more money off of their own system then they are.

Just remember:

For a long time, I have defended Microsoft's decisions. I have been a long time Gold member on their Xbox Live, and seen most of their decisions myself. However, this is the first time I'm going to have to disagree with Microsoft. Quire simply, they just want to continue charging people for DLC and games, without losing a profit. It's a sad day, I seriously wanted Steam on the 360. I'm not a Valve fanboy, and I love the amount of tears it's creating knowing Steam is no longer PC-only since now they have to share (now you know how it feels when our Xbox exclusives come to the PC, eh?! Nah just playing. Learn to share).

I sincerely hope Microsoft looks at this plan one last time and changes it. Everyone would be happy, and having Steam support on the 360 would be an interesting change.

PS: I've never used that symbol of the M and the dollar sign. But... how could you M$? Ew. No. Not doing that ever again. Though it still reinforces my dislike with this call.

Technically Steam is the store, Steamworks is the network backend which is what the PS3 has you won't be able to buy Uncharted 2 on steam for PS3

I highly doubt that after such a statement and PS3 starting to get gaems [sic] MS may change their mind about it. But then again the code may not allow such things.

Well, if the PS3 can get some SteamPlay action, that'd be pretty awesome. Buy a game on Steam, and you can play it on PC, Mac or PS3.

I really doubt Microsoft will let Steamworks through, though. Too stubborn.

They specifically want Steamworks on the PC...

Well I don't ant that for several reasons... for one I don't like Steam.

Now we have my immediate bias out of the way.

They would then have their own service on 2 out of 3 consoles and the PC... so essentially they would become a monopoly drawing money from all 3 platforms and growing larger.

That doesn't sound good to me... I assume because they want Steamworks this means they want to offer other games through their system. Essentially stealing a market away from XBLA and PSN... thereby increasing rthe cost to keep those other systems running and driving smaller developers who don't want to use Steam into the ground.

Then I assume Valve would use their own servers for their games. Which Microsoft wouldn't have a hand in so Valve would have to pay for them all on their own... which is where they could easily bring ion a subscription fee.

Maybe I'm making Valve out to be too evil, but they are a company.

Still I'd rather Valve just stop freaking complaining and maintenance the TF2 servers on 360... I'm sure they can scrounge around in the money pile for enough for one update.

Quick my PS3 fanboy brothers, we need to transform and roll out, send an E-mail to Microsoft pretending to have an Xbox stating that you don't want your console over run with third party trinkets and software plugins!, we've got something over the Xbots in this bloody war of one up-manship, lets keep it that way!.

In all seriousness, not having Steam on Xbox is bad for us the consumers, gaming is all about choice and my Xbox peers not being able to choose to have Steam on their systems is a sad thing indeed, I hope Steam is enough of a success on PSN to get Microsoft to reconsider, unless they are going the Apple way...

If they don't let Steam come to 360, then they're idiots. That's going to be one of the stronger things that the PS3 has to it when they get it, and Microsoft will lose quite a lot of people from it. I know that I've always prefered the 360 to the PS3 (I have both, I just prefer the 360 controller as it feels more natural), but this is starting to seem like the PS3 annoyances would be worth dealing with.

Steamworks has nothing to do with the store. (called steam)
It's the multiplayernetwork and updating service.
You wont be able to buy portal on steam but you can use steamworks and play zthe coop campaign with a friend wo plays on pc. Microsoft doesn't like the ability to connect to dedicated servers etc so you can only do that on a ps3 or an open platform like the pc

I always thought that if Valve could put their service on consoles then offer movies and music they could probably bring down iTunes. But alas that is a simple dream that shall probably never be fulfilled.

Fair enough.. I don;t care enough about Steam to know the workings on.

But 'Microsoft doesn't like the ability to connect to dedicated servers'?

Wut?

Microsoft partially fund developers servers, so it's down to the developer.

If they want to use a P2P connection then they use a Microsoft network to help make that connection.

If they want to make dedicated server, Microsoft partially funds that server as long as the dev also funds it.

Once the developer stops paying for the server, Microsoft let it die.

I'm going to quote this so more people see it. Entirely too many people think that Steamworks = Steam.
