This is perhaps my favorite review:

What author Carole Lieberman lacks in integrity, she makes up for with her uncanny ability to spin (not so) intricate webs of lies, fabricate "facts" to suit her agenda on the fly, and misrepresent subjects she clearly has no knowledge of or experience with. She grasps at straws that aren't there at all and comes across as exactly what she is: biased, uninformed, and utterly unethical.

The author's methods aside, the actual content is offensive to men and women alike, as well as potentially harmful if read by impressionable minds. Lieberman enforces gender roles and stereotypes, asserting that there are only twelve types of "bad girls" and even fewer types of men and "good girls." Men are presented as objects to be manipulated by hyper-sexualized women. The author encourages women to exaggerate their sexuality with the sole purpose of "getting what they want" with no regard to the consequences for the other half of these non-relationships.

This is all compounded by Lieberman's inability to write in any sort of intelligent manner. A wordsmith she is not (and apparently neither is her editor) as is evidenced by the plethora of spelling errors and grammatical blunders.

To be blunt, do not buy this book. I plan to shred my copy--I would rather do that than sell the book and risk another more impressionable reader pick up this atrocity. This would be truly dangerous. After all, the increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the reading of sexual content in Carole Lieberman's book.

The absurdity of the last sentence compared with the tone of the rest of the review just really did it for me.

That will teach her to have an opinion that gamers disagree with. You people didn?t even present a counter argument you just mocked her and you wonder why gamers are seen as immature.

Bombing somebody's book review for something they said completely unrelated to that book is a bit like egging their car. It's not intelligent, it's immature.
To be fair, the amazon bombing is somewhat related to her statements:

1) She complains about the portrayal of sex in the media, yet writes books that reinforce those same values.

2) She makes baseless remarks (games cause rape) without showing any supporting studies/evidence.

Nearly all of the 1 star reviews on Amazon either parody/remark upon these two points. They note that her book champions the same sexual aggressiveness that she's complaining about, and therefore jump to a similar conclusion about her book ("the rise in rape can be attributed to this book!".

There are very few amazon reviews that just wantonly flame her for her views.

Gee, I love when gamers get wound up by some "professional" and then, to prove how well-adjusted and mature we all are, turn around and do something uber-mature like vote down their product on Amazon and encourage others to do the same. And posting her address and phone number online? That is a sure recipe to make the world view gamers in a better light.

This isn't Karma; it's retaliation. It's also ridiculous. We should try to be above reproach, and show Dr. Carole, FOX News, and their respective viewers WHY they are wrong, in a rational manner; not just react and try to get her book a bad rating. My mind boggles at this "Amazonbombing" (cute term), and is further boggled that it's being celebrated. WHAT? We have no right to whine and lament about video games and its community never being taken seriously when we're pulling this kind of childish crap.
While this may be seen as "bringing it to her level", I don't think it's on the same level as, say, writing hate mail and such. She made an incredibly stupid statement, and compared a large portion of the population to rapists. I'm actually surprised at how mature the comments on amazon are, given the offensiveness of her original comment.

That picture of the author looks so smug and punchable that I would like to thank the person who found it. It very much matches the theme of her books.

I'm not sure what angers me more: her face in her picture, the title and message of her book, or her the crap she spewed out while on Fox.
Pretty much all of the above, but you've also gotta keep a little bit of hate on the side for Fox, for providing her ignorance and bile with a soapbox to stand on...

Gotta be careful when you insult videogames. Back in the old days when the internet was a large array of pipes and still had vacuum tubes, curse our hobby all you want. Now I would say easily 50 million people consider themselves gamers, and most of know how to use the internet in deadly and precise ways. Her book willl not sell and she will think twice before saying something like that again...

Oh, but wouldn't it be great though. FOX brings her back on to talk about how gamers attacked her for speaking out against them? Then she'd attack us. She would, in a way, flame us. imagine flaming gamers en masse. oh the horrors that would befall her.

Good job internet! That will show her.

It actually might, going after someone's line of income is a big move. We may be thought childish for doing so but talking heads will think twice before decrying gaming if they have a book or other source of income determined by public opinion.

I was reading through some reviews, thinking... nah it must be a coincidence... these aren't pissed nerds, these are just people... then I read the review line,

"the increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the reading of sexual content in Carole Lieberman's book"
...and all I could muster was, "you clever fuckers."

Hell hath no fury like a gamer scorned.

Site would appear to be down and being improved. I wonder are they removing the book from the site, that would totally bring up the quality of the site.

(Site is down on 9.2.2011 9am Finish time gmt+2)

It is indeed the era of the internet, we do not take kindly to ignorance...

One does not simply use the internet for gain unscathed, when they are insulting and lying about one of the majority of the internet users most passionate past times. We may not be able to voice our opinions on news stations like fox, but there are other more effective ways to get a message out.

I applaud the amazonbombing, if she is going to try to discredit video games and the ESRB/PEGI ratings with false accusations, she must be willing to take that same punishment, but the irony lies in that fact that the accusations on her book are more then likely truth, and I have really enjoyed how well they trolled the reviews... its juts.... soo beautiful!

She all but called us, and me, a rapist. That can not stand, I'd punch someone who did that in real life regardless of gender. In my personal lexicon of insults rapist is the second lowest form of scum on the planet, just short of child molesters, rape is an evil that dwarfs murder, because it destroys a person, so not only did she call a large group of people I'm part of one of the most horrible things imaginable, doing so made light of one of the most disgusting crimes that can be committed.

It can not stand unchallenged.
She didn't call you or I or anyone else here specifically rapists, so simmer down. That you're taking this so personally is strange.

Besides, when someone insults you (in real life or otherwise), the mature thing to do is ignore it, not sling mud yourself. And if someone called you that in real life, you'd punch them? Where do you live, the Jersey Shore or some testosterone ridden night club? What the hell is wrong with you?

Honestly. Reasonable people don't clock others when they get called names. Grow the hell up.

[small]Also, rape doesn't dwarf murder by a wide fucking margin.[/small]

Granted, but take a look at some of the comments in this bloody thread. People are wishing all manner of violence on her and I'm fairly certain at least one person said they wanted to bash her face in with a sledgehammer.

The reviews might not be offensive, but that doesn't change their childishness. An angry letter (hopefully worded strongly and with no threats of death or whatever, "hate mail" can still be composed with a respectful tone) would be a more appropriate forum then Amazon.com, who has zip to do with her views on video games. Hell, encouraging game production companies to step up and say something would be more appropriate then posting angry reviews about a book you've never even read. Doing that is nothing more than petty, childish revenge, and it does more harm to our collective reputations, than good and defending this kind of idiotic behavior seems really fucking counter-productive to combating any sort of lingering stereotypes that gamers are immature.

God, I so incredibly grow tired of the reactionary idiots that get lumped in with me, just because we feel that any attack on our media choices is somehow personal and a struggle of life and death. Get real, people, and more importantly, get over it. The idiots out there aren't going to stop being idiots just because we threw a collective tantrum on Amazon.com.

Beware the nerd rage!!!

Maybe this will scare off any other 'experts' from unfairly blaiming gaming for every problem in American society.

I like this bit the best:

"There is no reference to video games or violence in this review. Your defensive PR spam has no place here. You do know that we can all see these comments collected sequentially, and therefore easily recognize that you just carpet-bombed all of your recent negative reviews and blamed them on Fox news, right? Do you think this is helping your cause? Was this feedback helpful to you?"

That kind of stuff makes this whole thing even funnier.

fuckin a man it serves her right, her book sounds like the sort that would set back progress by women and for guys only serve as something to wipe with and or a means by which to get lucky with and or screwed over by a woman depending on what it is she's telling the women who read her book

This should be a new media rule. No reporter or 'media specialist' is allowed to bash in a game unless they've played the damn thing themselves.

That woman seems like an utter idiot but that Amazon thing wasn't so good. I mean I don't like the ideas she has, but it's not really the best thing to do. I mean people should note her idiocy as it is, so it's not necessary.

A small gesture, bombing her like this. Childish? immature? Perhaps, but does she deserve better? Ignorant blowhards like Carole Lieberman need a little slap in the face from time to time.

Awwwww yeahhh.
As for the book, I've read a brief synopsis and they do have a point. It screams "hey fems, you should use your ta'tas and get what you want in the world!".

I'm surprised her email isn't available to the general public (yet)
