Loved this. Creative marketing like this always makes me chuckle. Now this might also be a hint to all those who buy their kids mature games then complain about it too. Though I highly doubt that...

That's a pretty awesome way to advertise. But it was probably fake.
You could see the tear in their eyes! :D Oh the joy!

But yeah, I'm picking this up. " if it has the same graphics as Dead space 1)

Am I the only one who wonders if any of these mums watched horror films back when they were teenagers? the games hardly more violent than your usual horror film (less than some i've seen) so the mums are only complaining because they see violent games as the sole reason we have columbine style shootings (thank you fox news).

As someone said It would have been good to ask the people to bring their kids in, ask if they would buy the game (stating clearly that the game is 18+), let the kids go off alone to play for an hour or two and then show the parents game footage of their child. while that might not be a good advert it would be interesting to see if parents finally realised age ratings are there for a reason.

Okay, it's funny, I admit. And definitely very clever. But all I can think as I watch each of the reaction videos is, "Well, there's another month before the day games are acknowledged as a mature, legitimate medium...and another month...and another month..."

Ah, Visceral... I would love to see all of their reactions from start to finish.

I can just imagine this on the back of the box:

"Dead Space 2 - Very fireful"

"Dead Space 2: It's everything you love in a game. And your mom's gonna hate it."

Classic line. Something about that seems like such a throwback to late 80's-mid 90's advertising.

That said my mom watched me play some dead space 1. She thought the game looked beautiful and watched it like she was watching a horror movie. (She and my dad, they love bad horror movies, they're not picky). She watched the level where Hammond get's killed and loved it. She wanted to know if I could save him somehow, much to my dismay I had to tell her no. Anyhow I don't know what she'd have done to their numbers. It could all be in the presentation ya know?

Is it funny I think those scenes they showed weren't all that bad? That's like when my dad calls a film violent and all it has is shooting with no gore.

I don't care much for Dead space because it isn't scary and is a generic shooter game, but I will see the second one now that Isaac actually has a face and a voice and maybe a personality hopefully XD

Interesting compaign but considering most who play this game are adults, why are they showing it to moms exactly?

hahah, some of the best advertising i've seen in a while, both in terms of creating sales and laughs.
not sure how increasing mother disapproval = increasing game entertainment value hypothesis would hold up with my mum, i'll just have to test it. now where's my copy of silent hill and my graph paper notebook?

seems like a lot of people in this thread don't understand that correlation!=causation. i.e. (taking the advert seriously) your mother disliking it is not a quality which makes it a good game (that would be causation, your mother disliking it causes it to be a good game) however if your mother dislikes it it is likely to have qualities which you would enjoy in a game (mother disapproved games correlate with quality games, it is possible for a game to be bad and have a high disapproval rating but it is statistically less likely).

I actually really hate this commercial. It brought gaming as a whole back several years.

It's like showing the most disgusting parts of Bioshock, Silent Hill or even Fallout. Sure they're horrifying when you really get down to it but that is so not what the game is about.

In real life everyone would shit if they saw a Deathclaw. If people stop thinking the creatures in Dead Space are gross, I think that's a problem. I am not condemning the game, but this is a pretty bad way to advance the medium.

In reflection having seen this aired a bunch of times on TV it made me rethink this ad line entirely. This is the stupidest thing ever and I am ashamed I didn't see it up front. This is an M rated game 17-18+ Now what kind of person that age cares about their moms approval People should be more focused on how they must be targeting little kids who still have to rebel against parents and what not.

What I'm most disturbed about in all this is that a lot of gamers are not even noticing how damaging this misleading marketing campaing can be.

Wow, are you kidding me? Those poor mothers. If I saw random footage of the game I'd hate it myself.

Kind of an interesting marketing ploy, but do we really want to give the message "If you're older than 19, you'll hate video games"?

This video just confirmed to me that Dead Space 2 is going to be gore-infested garbage.

"Do you want to have fun... killing people?" Hey, I'm just an engineer, and they came at me first. "It's not a game. It's a mind-numbing, mind-altering, demonic weapon." I just want to play the game, I'm not possessed with the urge to travel to Saturn and shoot aliens.
I like the beginning, "A mother's disapproval has always been an accurate parameter of what is cool." Could not have said it better myself.
