Im near Toronto Canada, last year, we didnt have a single snow day. Which sucks. This year, in the past 2 weeks, we've missed a total of 5 days of school.

Today was a snow day actually.

Really? In Waterloo neither high school or elementary schools have been closed to my knowledge.
The university never closes.

Today, December 17, we had less than an inch of solid snowfall. The school system shut down all schools in about 10 counties.

So here is the question, my friends, how do those in positions of authority near you react to snow? Do you live in an area where you never recieve it and dont have to worry about it? Do you live where snow is a constant, something that simply becomes part of the norm? Do you live where any amount of snow causes almost complete sociotal breakdown? Share with us your tales of intrest!

Yeah, mostly they close it because we're not as equipped to run buses on icy roads here in NC. Cars? Sure. But buses... well... not worth the risk. Most counties, it was no school for students, but we still had a workday for all the teachers. Liability makes people pretty cautious in their decision making.

Interestingly enough, I live in around the same geographic area as you.
But oh, when we North Texans get a little bit of snow, it is ARMAGEDDON.
Everyone is confused.
Traffic is awful.
Chaos abounds.
The sky is, quite literally, falling.

Safe to say, Texans and snow do not mix.

Here in Grand Junction, Colorado, in the middle of a desert. we just got a new district manager, and he is from Minisota, where his last year there he didn't cancel school there was bad accident so now whenever we get a snowstorm, even if it is only a dusting.

I live in Vancouver right now. People and authorities absolutely lose their minds when in snows more than 5 inches. Back in my hometown in Saskatchewan; we shrug and move on. Snow is just a part of life for me and seeing people freak out about it makes me laugh uncontrollably.

Don't know anymore, but back circa 2007 there would be two feet of snow on Long Island and the smithtown schools would still be open. Why? Cause the administration dude was from buffalo. Doesn't understand Islanders don't role with this shiz.

Oh and my Job will always open regardless of road conditions, even though A&P will close their corporate offices and thus screw us on giving our paychecks on time. *Sigh*

Generaly the schools around here only close if the salt trucks can't get out to clear the roads, or didn't presalt a bad snowfall.

What county is that? I'm in southern Indiana at the moment, Evansville, USI Campus.

Where I lived a bit north of south, near Bedford, we had school closings at least once or twice a year because of snow, and many, many delays.

I think Vancouver closes school when we don't sometimes, and vice versa. It's kinda random sometimes, it snows a bunch and there is still school. Barely anything and it's a SNOW DAY!

Spoiled brats... In Saskatchewan visibility had to be nil and several feet of snow had to be falling before that would happen. Either that or it had to be -45 out.

I go to College in PA, so we almost never close, lol. We did last year because of a back to back blizzard though.

High five for the blizzard of '09! I believe the record was that my school closed only once in it's entire history before that blizzard (Temple U. btw)

Either your school district is poopy or you live out in the sticks or something...I've seen classes canceled for ~2" or so. I remember one time when I was in middle school they canceled it due to low temperatures (didn't want kids walking to school/bus stops)...of course no one was expecting that and I sat for a good half hour at my bus stop waiting like an idiot. Of course, our sanitation people are kinda "eh", sometimes the roads just don't get salted and everyone wakes up to 2" of snow on the roads.
