I'm from the Netherlands. Schools here pretty much stay open al the time.
We barely ever get more than 2 inches of snow, anyway.

All the trains have delay though, which is a pain.

Where I live the standard is the train system.
If the trains decided to shutdown then all the businesses and the schools take their cue from that, despite the fact that most students walk to school.
I think the point is to have everybody on the same page.

But, where I grew up (sunny California) people are so frightened of weather of any kind heavy rain will causes delays.

I live in Gothenburg, Sweden and nothing will shut down unless there's like a meter of snow outside. Which, during my lifetime, has only happened once.
You mean like now?

Anyway, my school only closed once because of the amount of snow we had on the roofs. That was two glorious days of extra vacation.

Right now I live in an area that, as far as I know, hasn't seen snow since the Ice Age. However, back when I lived in the Midwest, it usually depended on the roads. If it snowed a bit, school wasn't canceled. If the roads iced up and the buses couldn't get to were they needed to get, it was canceled until something was done about the roads. You'd watch the morning news and the little news ticker at the bottom listed all the schools that would be closed.

I'm from Norway, we've had about half a metre ++, nothing has closed yet. Not even the airports.

As a Finnish person I have never had problems with snow. Nothing has ever been closed during my life because of snow. Same goes for cold temperatures. Everything works pretty much as usual during winter.

I live in London, and when it snowed nearly every school closed except mine. Seriously, my principal is goddamn adamant about not letting up for snow.

I live in South Carolina, and if there is so much as a half-inch of snowfall, someone somewhere will shut down a school.

We simply don't know how to handle ice on the road.

Right now, we have 30cm of snow. But I remember when I was little I might have had 7 years, there was a lot of snow, and the students from grade 1 to 7, so from 7 years to 13 didn't go to school. But that leaves kids from 14 onwards going to school.

But today, our school was closed because of the really low temperatures. For example now, it's -8 degrees outside, and the heating had frozen up.

I live in Vermont. In the hilly/mountainous parts, and we get lots of snow. If its below 4 feet, there's school.

I've heard Finland takes a hardcore approach to it though. Like if there's 10 feet of snow, bring skies.
HAhhaaaaahaa! Goddamn right. It's not even Christmas here yet and we have like 4 feet of snow everywhere already. -18 degrees celsius (that translates as goddamn cold) and snowfall everywhere. And nothing gets shut down.

And yes, I live in Finland. And for once I can feel superior to your pussy american system BWAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!

Now i have to ask why schools in america closes down when it's snowing? It's not like it y'know, actually does anything.

We had 6 feet of snow for like 4 months last year in Sweden but zero schools closed down. But the buses and trains are all late so everybody gets a mark for late arrival every single day.

I've only head about schools closing down once, the big brother of one of my pals told me it was closed down about 13 years ago. But at the time there was 13 feet of snow and a blizzard going on so it was kinda understandable.

I live in Brussels. It's not the snow that causes the problems, but the road chaos. Seems that this city wasn't made to deal with cars and snow. Everything just locks up here.

In britain we rarely get bad snow, so when we do all the goverment does is run around panicking, then when the snow clears they spend thousands on grit and safegaurds, then when snow falls they never see it coming

I'll be honest, I have never experienced that the schools have had to close because of snow where I live, Norway, even though we do get lots of snow.

Appearantly there is a rule though if the school can't heat the classroom up to atleast 18 degrees celsius, 64.4 ºF, the students are allowed to leave.

And usually outside where I live it's -4 ºF to -13 ºF

But at my grandparents who live 2 hours away, they had -29.2 ºF and tons of snow xD
Dang, where do they live? I rarely get to see anything below -13F where I live. Is Kirkenes a far off guess?

OT: As he said, Norway doesn't close schools based on weather, and well, I don't really think any of those who get a lot of snow do, it's natural so we don't think of it as a crisis. Of course if you go to Oslo they'll usually flip out if there's snow even though it's December...
Far away from Kirkenes, I live in the vicinity of Jessheim, and my grandparents live near Tønsberg, but it's true, we and they had it that cold not long ago.

Huh? It's not snowy at all right now.
