Starcraft IS the 40k universe, just with a sense of humor. Having drunken guys in jeeps doesn't make the Starcraft universe any less about "ridiculous" power armor, space elves, and space bugs!
There's a pretty big difference between Starcraft and W40k, mate.
Actually, no, there isn't.

And althoguh it is in relation to the Fantacy version, I would like to point you to this:

...and the Warhammer 40k universe isn't just, as the title implies, the same, only set 40 000 years in the future?
Nope. Warhammer 40k is as far removed from Tolkien as you can get without bringing Nicholas Sparks and Quentin Tarantino onto the project.

If it looks good I'm certainly willing to give it a shot. I just hope there's an Assault Marine class.
Agreed, though I hope there'll be Imperial Guardsmen as playable charaters. Being the underdog is fun and rewarding.

No, what I meant was Warhammer 40k just takes the Warhammer mould and gives it a sci fi makeover. Let's do a quick run down, shall we?

Imperium = Empire
Eldar = High Elves
Dark Eldar = Dark Elves
Chaos = Chaos
Necrons = Undead
Orks = Oh dear I can't think of this one... I might need some help...

I will admit that the amount of backstory and lore they give them goes a long way towards making them stand out among the herd, but you can't deny that Games Workshop really did phone it in when it came to creating some original races.

Hmm its an interesting concept but i doubt they can pull it off to be honest. I'll see what its like but im not holding my breath...

Also OT but Starcraft was initially supposed to be backed by games workshop before they pulled out and made dawn of war later on... so all you people saying they're different can go and find this out for themselves THEN suck on a railroad spike :p

I've never really been a fan of the Warhammer 40k setting, personally - it's a bit too ridiculous for me, and I'll take StarCraft over it any day of the week.
Now I'm not positive, but wasn't starcraft originally based on 40K, but GW pulled support and then blizzard changed everything so as not to infringe on any copyrights? If thats true, this would be highly ironic.
