Alright, let me start with the story to which this question pertains:
It was about 8:40 pm, and I am working at a cookie store at the mall. There had been almost nobody in teh mall since about 8:00, and many stores were already closed. Because of this, I decided to have to other person with me clean the windows before they left (Which was about 30 minutes earlier to the 8:40 Incident). An older woman and her grandkid come up to order some cookies, and at first, on of the children starts touching the glass. I politely ask him to stop, and he complies. His grandmother then stops the other son from also touching the glass. Now, they call the mother over (who looks to be in her early 40's) to start ordering what they want. She starts tapping the glass to point things out to her kids, and I endure it for a few taps. I then decided to do something, and then politely said "Please do not touch the glass, we just cleaned it". The mother then got pissed at me, and started ranting. I am not sure the exact order, but I remember the exact quotes of "I just cleaned my hands, why would you say something like that?", "How am I suppost to point things out to my kids then?", "That is stupid, there are still kids within this mall", and one of the last things she said was "You can just get a rag and wipe over it". She then left, saying she was goign to file a complaint for how rude I was.
My question for the people here is "Was I actually rude in telling her not to touch the glass after she did?"
Also, I know I could of walked around the back hallway, gone to the front and cleaned the window later, I was just trying to save myself extra work since I had to close the store alone.

No that isnt being rude, that lady is being very rude, the little kids are beter behaved than here. and you can point without actually touching the glass, gretting a rag and wiping over it smudges it without cleaning, and you cant clean of finger prints.

What an idiot. You did the right thing, well, atleast nothing wrong.

If you actually said "Please do not touch the glass, we just cleaned it" in a polite tone of voice then no, you were not rude at all. However, It seems unlikely that she would get so mad if you said something so harmless. But I also don't see what the point in lying over the internet so I'll just believe what you said.

I don't really think so, I would have done the same thing. You politely asked her to stop and had a fit about it. I doubt that see filed a complaint too, that would just be stupid.

What a *****.
No my friend, take it from someone who has worked with those people before, she was the one who was rude.
She took it the wrong way, and obviously doesn't clean much, anyone who ever cleaned glass even once would realize how much of a pain it is.
sorry im ranting but people like that piss me off.
If I were you I would contact your boss and tell him your side of the story before she gets the chance to complain.

Well, it just happened tonight, and it is 10:22 right now. Tomorrow I will have to wait and see if she goes through with it

:O You work at a cookie store!?

OT: I personally wouldn't have said anything, that's just me. I used to work at McDonalds and always have to re wipe surfaces during a closing shift. Although I wouldn't have said anything, I normally express my feelings on my face =), which is way worse. What you did was alright in my book.

People are like that. You did nothing wrong, and you shouldn't feel guilty about someone elses stupidity. So no, you did nothing wrong.

nope, she's a *****

EDIT: That said, I hate these kinds of threads, you obviously know you weren't rude, you are just looking for people to agree with you.

Yes, I will admit, right after I said it and her first words of her reaction came out, I really wished I just said nothing.

I just sorta think that would be quite stupid to file a complaint. She doesn't really have anything to gain by doing so, so whats the point?
