But I'm only gonna spend $200. Oh joy. :D
So not going with the Space Vikings? Black Templar have a pretty sweet hero. The name passes me, but he can destroy tanks with his sword.

Ahh the Games Workshop employee discount, its nice to have friends. Will you be going with Greyknights as well or purely Black Templars?
I'll more than likely get some GKs as well...simply because I love the look of the unit. But primarily I'll be picking up Black Templars and friends.

EDIT: Joe. I was sorely tempted in the direction of Tau for a while. The only thing that caused me to pick BT, was the complete lack of Melee on the Tau side. Shame that, I would have thoroughly enjoyed the Battlesuits the Tau use.

Perhaps I'll pick them up as a second army.

EDIT 2: No one ever answered the question; Does anyone know anything about Witch Hunters? I can't get much out of my buddy - he's too busy playing some game or another in the next room.

Blasted space marines, stealing away budding minds and forcing them into mediocrity.

Make everyone start with Dark Eldar, that'll out some thinking into them.

And Rain, you and me would shake the heavens with our battle.'

And don't rely on a Talos against 'Nids.

A big creature that likes close combat and not dying? Your looking at the race that made that cool. And i love playing dark eldar, similar speed, similar tactics, but where you prefer range i love close combat. The perfect foes.

You could try and beat 'Nids hand-to-hand if you like... really... that would be fun. For me.
True. I'm just saying, a few of my units have been known to take out many squads. Mandrakes have this knack for getting in just the right position before popping up and laying waste to entire units. Also, a new army lists sees me with two Haemoncolus. Oh the joy.

I'm not entirely sure but I think witch hunters have something to do with sisters of battle, so if they do they're probably not your army. Don't really know much else about them unfortunatly.

Edit: Sorry about the poor grammar it's 7am here and I have yet to sleep. It is normally pretty bad anyway, something I need to improve on.

After reading this entire thread...yep, every single post. I'd have to say you should look into the Witch Hunters a little more. They're linked to the sisters of battle. But they have one Hero who's just too badass (especially if you cream your panties looking at mechs)

http://oz.games-workshop.com/games/40k/witchhunters/background/default.htm

Lord Karamazov is just awesome. You could just be like "Yep, that's me. And all those lovely hot killing machines you call ladies. Those are my friends"

Thus bypassing your "I don't wanna be a girl" problem. I understand, because I have it too - As does my best friend.

Witch hunters can be in any Imperial army I believe.

The Guide To Fighting 'Nids:

Don't take board sweepers, 'Nids take apart heroes and big units like so much putty, you can spend 400 points on the command squad from hell, but for 200 points we will take the unit who will sacrifice itself to shred it. And then we have 200 points to go to town on the rest of your army.

Bolters baby, bolters. Nothing scares a 'Nid player like a line of bolters who know what to do. Sure, we might disrupt your lines and break them, but as long as you are putting bolts down range you will come out the stronger. Stand and Fight, never run, and for the love of god keep shooting.

Vehicles, We can only glance a vehicle from range, really, unless we get claws-to-steal we can only glance, under new rules we cant destroy them with guns. So, piling your tactical squads or fire teams into cars and driving away lets you begin the meat grinder anew and bring the beast down.

Shoot the big ones, Bring down the synapse, disrupt the gaunts, how much simpler can it be?

Dont bunch, bunches are lunches. Nothing makes me smile more than a brood lord eating his way through squad after squad who have no room to shoot him. If a unit is engaged in close combat, get the frak away, and shoot them down when you guys are dead. NEVER TRY TO AID A SQUAD IN CC WITH 'NIDS! More will just pile in behind you and soon enough you have no units whatsoever, and nids are wiping gristle off their claws.

A good tyranid player will make you dance to his tune, the key is to not let him gain advantage by scoring easy kills. 'Nids win by tilting numbers in their favor with skill then just eating their way through everything. Do not let this happen, save men not rounds, shoot them all and stay alive, once enough are dead we, the hive mind, are defeated.

there we go, don't tell your freinds.

Yeah, I just noticed they had their own Codex...so I figured I would ask.

EDIT: Also I've decided to pick up a few Tau sets tomorrow. Enough to build a nice little starter army.

God, after that post i can hear the roaring of the guns....

EDIT: My IG army has a witch hunting inquisitor attached to it, the colonel may thnik he's in charge, but that woman with the cloak and power amour is really calling the shots.

background wise using inquitot allies adds a touch of flavor to your army, giving its battles a more story like feel, which is the main reason i play anyway. to tell a story of the Ferosian 1st Heavy Rifles.

Tau are good for beginners because you only need to know one rule, shoot. Not that hard to follow. As you're army grows you'll learn how to act in combat (you don't, you stay the fuck away from it) and react to different scenarios.

Tau are harder to paint and build than Space Marines. I would recommend buying a box of 5 marines and practise painting on those models. Try different colour schemes that you can cross over to the Tau. If you are unhappy with your painting undercoat it again and then paint it again. Just keep practising on those marines and you'll be able to get better at painting, and as a result your army will look better.

Yeah, it's decided. (Again)

Tomorrow I'll be picking up Black Templars, and Tau.
Personally I feel that if you want to create a space marine army it is better to make your own. That way you can do whatever you want with them, and the Codex Space marine has a lot of niffty rules for your own chapters. For example, I was planning on making an army with six dreanoughts. It might not be realistic, but by god I can do it!

The Black Templar plastic kit comes with some really good stuff though. There a fun army to make.

*Slaps*

God damn It, they want your soul! and the torture porn elves are a ***** to play, you suck and work your ass off to get decent, and then only the barest few can ascend to greatness.

Whereas the 'Nids start underdog and then steadily climb with practice. You get out what you put in.

But its so hard to say no to them.. im a sucker for a girl that wants to do naughty, potentially fatal things to me...

Hmmm... the 'nids are tempting its true... at this point i don't know how much I'm going to be able to play, I've had my interest reignited by a trip to the sydney GW (i had to leave all my armies back in the UK) still don't know anyone in the area that plays, so I'm think something thats going to be fun to paint and looks good, and a laugh to play with. Would 'nids fit the bill?

Listen, there is nothing more fun than a lone genestealer taking down land raider.

Great, yet simple, to paint, and always a hoot in battle, you have such a rage of choice it becomes almost a billion armies in one. Conversion is limitless in possibility, fun factor is sky high....

And there's nothing like filling the board when your opposition has 4 squads and going... "Let me grab my other box..."

Oh, the hilarity.
