A pretty self explanatory question.

The one's I can think of
Clownfish
Hamster
Komodo Dragon
Dolphin
Clownfish hasn't been donw (even though there are like hundreds of Water-types)
Hamster => Raticate (yeah, I know it's a rat, but it has hamster qualities)
Komodo Dragon => Groudon
Dolphin is another one that hasn't been done, unless you count Kyogre (which is more of an orca)

Just one word...

Gnarwhal.

Gnarwhal?

Gnarwhal!

"Gnarwhal, Gnarwhal,
Swimming in the ocean,
Causing a commotion,
'Cause they are so awesome.

Gnarwhal, Gnarwhal,
Swimming in the ocean,
Pretty big and pretty white,
They'll beat a polar bear in a fight."

How about a worm or a salamander?
Worm (doesn't work like a worm, but they call it one):

Salamander (Charmander is supposed to be a bipedal fire salamander):

Nothing more definite than that, though.

I'd say Tentacool/Tentacruel is more of a Jellyfish than a squid but that's probably the closest we'll get so what the hell.

And Swellow is, well, a Swallow.
What I meant is something like this:

I mean come on that bird already looks badass enough, might make a good Fighting/Flying type.

Tasmanian Devil? Koala? Kangaroo? Pipi? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paphies_australis] Emu? Wombat? Wedge-tailed eagle? Ibis?
Kangaskan for kangeroo, emu might be covered by doduo or dodrio. dunno about the rest

I'm quite certain that my choice hasn't been done. I'm quite certain there isn't a pokemon based on the Thorny Devil:

Magmar?

Mantis: Scyther.
Stick Insect: Sudowoodo would be my best guess
Raptor probably won't be done until next gen. They always have ~2 prehistoric animals a gen.
The only thing that makes Scyther look similar to a prey mantis is that they're both green.

Your kidding right? Check bulbapedia. Scyther's species is "mantis pokemon"

Honestly most of these guesses people are making have all been linked to pokemon as if nobody on this thread has even played the games. But then again, I cant think of much either they havent covered.

Spinda is based off of the red panda, so as far asa I know, there isn't any pokemon based off of the traditional Giant Panda

elephant? (and, no, donphan/phanpy do not count in this case)
Wait, wut? That's like saying "Any ants? And durant doesn't count." If they're quite obviously looking like elephants, with part of the word elephant in their names, I'd say they totally count as elephants :p

OT: There are absolutely TONS of prehistoric animals to be done. Personally, I'm looking forward to a giant armoured fish.
I'm pretty sure Relicanth counts as a giant armored fish. And it is an ancient pokemon.

i.e U.F.O. tofu, we panic in a pew, oozy rat in a sanitary zoo, may a moody baby doom a yam?
couple of my faves. :D
The only palindromic Pokémon name so far is Girafarig, I think. Although even that's only in exports, I think it's called something like Kirinriki in the Japanese.
As an interesting note, Kirinriki is palindromic when written in japanese.
Most symbols in japanese represent a full syllable, so what would be 2 letters in English.

Ki
Ri
N (the only consonant with its own character)
Ri
Ki

But I didn't know that was his Japanese name until you mentioned it, that's awesome.

I've already been through this, and I can tell you right now, I couldn't give a fuck what the game calls it. Scyther looks nothing like a pray mantis.

The pray mantis has a unique shape of it's own, with it's long back and claw it grabs prey inbetween it's claws. Like I said much earlier, they could easily get away with a new pokemon with the same shape, they already have many pokemon that look hardly any different from the original.

I hadn't even noticed that! even as I was writing 'Kirinriki' I was reading it in my head it 'Kirinkiri' for some bizarre reason. That's pretty damn awesome.
