This song comes to mind. It basically makes me think about the good old days of my childhood, but also how I'll never get to see it all again.

In my entire life, no form of created media has ever made me cry, though a few have gotten quite close;

Hurt by Johnny Cash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clq01TXQR0s
A brilliant song by an incredible man. You can feel such intense gravity as he nears his death and reflects on his wealth of experience.

By The Throat by Eyedea and Abilities: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JREjbvpQQfs
An amazing rapper-DJ combo and certainly one of my favorite artists of all time. This song in particular emanates incredible emotional pain; It's particularly impressive that the two men could create such uniquely painful material that fit together so well.

Dance With The Devil by Immortal Technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qggxTtnKTMo
A truly horrifying story with a powerful message, I simply can't imagine how tortuously earth-shattering that situation would be.

This one's an old Russian marching song. It's about a field that was the site of many battles, the wind carrying all the forgotten glory and triumphant songs never sung.

[HEADING=1]I Should Have Known - Foo Fighters[/HEADING]

Put it this way: You've got Dave Grohl on rhythm and lead singer, Krist Novoselic plays a base solo and you get a cookie if you can guess who one of the people this song was written about. *cough* Kurt Cobain *cough* - Oh, and the record producer of this whole album was Butch, the producer for Nirvana's Nevermind album.

The last one is sort of sad with slight undertones of happiness. I like it because it's subtle. And because it's RHCP.

There's several versions of this song, but I prefer Heathers

Other ones from K's Choice are 'What the Hell is Love' and 'Wait' (And a whole bunch of others)

And pretty much all of Serena's songs are sad or depressing

If you want more I've got tons ;)

This is my personal choice, which I feel is increasingly relevant these days, even if no one has answering machines anymore. The Replacements are the best

Runners up go to the entire catalogs of Joy Division and Nick Cave

I'm really surprised nobody has mentioned Gary Jules's version of Mad World. It's pretty much what I think of when I think of a sad song.
