Here is my backlog. Anything on there that I should give a shot, next?
Hyper Light Drifter is pretty great. Its combat system is top class, the artwork is beautiful, and the story is pretty well-told and mostly unobtrusive if you don't care about it that much. I never beat it myself, but I've been meaning to since forever. Still working on Dark Souls 2, though, so you'll just have to tell me how it goes.

Yeah, that's still in my backlog as In Progress. Finished the North and East areas, got all the way to the boss on the West area(stupid cat boss) before getting stuck on him. I tried once to go find more gearbits to level my gear up more and I haven't played it since.

It's on my list to finish this year. I really enjoyed it though.

Finished DOOM Eternal, the final mission was actually pretty amazing - it is just a shame that the game started to outstay its welcome a couple of levels beforehand.

I just find the games completely uninteresting. I know there IS a story in the games, but nobody ever talks about it in "public" circles. I admit I'm not a huge pursuer of gamer social media channels and outlets, but even with my incredibly limited involvement over the years, the ONLY thing anyone ever actually has to say about the DS games, is the fighting, and how hard X boss was, and what their strat was, etc etc. So as best as I can tell, nobody actually plays the game for the plot, so the plot might as well not exist.
You're right, you're not a pursuer of gamer social channels, because there's plenty of discussion regarding Soulsbourne stories and lore (mainly lore) on other websites, especially reddit, /v/, and Youtube, among others. many people, myself included, play these games for both their gameplay and world.

The Pursuer. ...Why? Just why? I realize he was probably pretty cool in the original game where he actually did the thing he's named for, but in SotFS he just moves faster than your Estus animation (why is it so slow? You can't heal in combat with it or you'll just die, and Lifegems aren't enough faster to matter), kills you in two hits, and his attacks deal so much stamina damage that no shield you have access to at that point has enough stability to block even one hit, after which you get stunlocked and die. And this is the second boss.
Like others have said, buff your adaptability up to 20-25 (it'll make your dodge and estus drinking better), and start getting used to dodging attacks, rather than relying on your shield. There are plenty of later bosses (especially in the DLC) who will just eat right through your shield, unless you have tons of stamina and a shield with heaps of stability. I've done two no-shield runs in DS2 and I found it a much more effective and fun method of playing. It also allows you to play around with the power stancing mechanic, which is only featured in DS2. Keeping your equip load under 70% also helps.

Beat the Isle of Armor DLC for Pokemon Sword, after doing a few raids, and having nothing to do but grinding your pokemon to Lv 100 I got bored and stopped playing.

After finishing Divinity Original Sin 2, which is probably the 2nd best RPG I've played after Disco Elysium, I've been getting into Desperados 3 and it's pretty awesome.

Here's a short clip of using the Showdown mode to plan out all 4 characters taking out 6 guys at one time

I haven't play that or shadow tactics but I'm kind of in the mood to play it or a game like it.

Is the Cock up Cascade as bad as Yahtzee makes it out to be in his review?

Honestly, Yahtzee's review of the game is pretty bad. Starting from the fact that he failed to do more research than Dan Brown, seeing as the Steam page says the game is a prequel, the game gives you plenty of warning, from enemy vision (if you have object permanence, you can figure out the patrol routes and where the vision cones will be when you can't see them), how much sound your actions make, and where the alert zones are. That's another thing he got wrong: alerts only affect certain areas, not 'every enemy on the map'. From what I heard, his stream showed him playing pretty badly as well, not even zooming out to see more guards at once.

It's not enough to stop watching the series over, but it's far from his best video. And the game's great, so definitely check it out. And don't forget to go into the options menu and set the save reminder to 5 or 10 minutes - because that's another thing you can do that Yahtzee didn't mention, along with turning it off entirely.

There is quite a bit of quick loading, but it's kinda part of the stealth genre in a sense and half the reason any player reloads is because you want your character to be that "ghost" you imagine them to be. And, pretty much every single cockup is your fault in the game. The game tells you exactly what enemies can see, exactly how loud anything you do will be. If you focus and take your time, you can go long periods without needing to quick load, though still be quick saving ;). I think I just played at least an hour straight not needing to quick load. Alerts aren't THAT bad in the game and you can survive them, but like any stealth game, it is quicker to reload. The caution/alert phases in the game are actually rather short compared to say the MGS games. There is a much higher amount of enemies than most stealth games because you are playing with multiple characters and you can do far more damage with them than what a Solid Snake or Sam Fisher ever could. You do have to think differently and makes more elaborate plans for what is open to you when you use everything at your disposal.....

.....In Yahtzee's stream of the game, he totally didn't know of this great little feature that allows you to mark a spot (like a doorway) or a character so you can see how many eyes are on them, which someone told him about during the stream. It basically makes it so you don't have to scan the whole area looking at every enemy's view cone that you think could possibly see them (and then probably miss someone anyway). Yahtzee was disappointed that it didn't allow you to see multiple view cones at once. The game also has a fast-forward feature so if you're waiting for a patrol to move away or the enemies to line up a certain way, you can wait less time basically. I"m playing on Hard and I'm thinking it might be a bit of a mistake because after watching Yahtzee's stream, I totally have more enemies than he did in the levels he played. And, there's some really fucking tight windows for me. The enemies are very staggered to where I wanna kill guy_a but guy_b is watching him while guy_c and guy_d are watching guy_b. You can do things to make sections easier like there's a level where you blow up a train bridge (cuz it's a western) and I totally made sure I had the chick that can run around in a disguise pick up the dynamite so I didn't have to take out a single enemy in that part of the level.

Desperados 3 is a slightly more polished Shadow Tactics and both have free demos if you wanna try them for free and Shadow Tactics is super cheap on Steam right now. The one thing I don't get is why these type of games are called RTSs or RTTs because like every stealth game (except Invisible Inc.) is played in real-time obviously. 90+% of the time you're just moving one character at time just like you would in any stealth game. And, the times you do want/need multiple characters acting at the same time, both games feature a mechanic that allow you to pause the game and queue up actions to all be done with a single button press (as I did in the video) so you don't need any fast keyboard and mouse skills that many RTSs require and the games play perfectly fine on a controller.

FInished the 3rd Ace Combat 7 DLC episode. I turned out I needed to use a plane with ground attack weapons(I went with the F-22, which is pretty much Air to Air focused) and the F-15E with cluster bombs did the trick. It was a bit easier this time around without needing constant repawns from the checkpoint.

I'm slightly annoyed that Long Caster fell for the Old "I surrender Suckers" trick since by this point it's been well established that Torres is essentially a terrorist with a super weapon armed with WMDs, has experience surviving long odds situations and Is somewhere between a well intentioned extremist and completely fucking nuts . One would think people would know not to underestimate him. Plus, it's odd that the Oseans give a shit about "Rules of War" in this case, the same game where they're established to throw civilians into military prison on the slightest of pretenses(Avril).

I already have Shadow Tactics(from another sale), but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I think I will try it out soon. Desperados looks a lot of fun though.

Anyway, I started the Banner Saga and so far it's pretty good. Still getting used to the combat system and trying to make the "Right" decisions(if there indeed are any). The game doesn't hesitate to start throwing you into fun multiple choice scenarios as early as chapter 2 where multiple things are happening at the same time and you have to pick one to try and help because that's all you have time for.

I have had to restart a few battles due to things getting far too desperate to recover from. Notably one where I had one melee and one archer vs a heavy and a couple normal dredge and trying to crowd control was kinda not working well.

THIS, is why I lost trust when it came to Yahtzee's review. His lack of paying attention to obvious details or tutorials. It's not levels of Egoraptor/Game Grumps bad, but it's no less annoying. His review of Mad World being the start of it.

I take his reviews with a grain of salt, really. I know he loved Painkiller but I couldn't really see it(and I bought it because he liked it so much). OTOH, I really liked Serious Sam(and the original Doom games) so it should have been up my alley.

Granted, I tend to look at multiple reviews from different people if I'm unsure if it's something I want.

I'm of similar mind, but for the most part I've gotten to that point where I know a game of work out for me or not. And I didn't always take Yahtzees reviews as 100% factor prove either, but his Mad world review was a tipping and starting point of "Okay, you clearly don't know what you're talkin about.". Or insulting certain fandoms for no reason.

I watch it for the entertainment value/bile and almost nothing else. His views on a game have virtually no influence on mine it doesn't actually matter, not least because it's clear his taste in games is wildly different from mine (also, he generally seems to have trouble with strategy-type games to begin with).

Anyway, Dishonored... again... -.-

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.

I can't see myself playing this game on anything other then using the Wiimote/Nunchuck.

And yes Resident Evil 4 is a great game.....but can feel a bit repetitive. I mean there's only so much you can do with the same kind of enemy types over and over again.

I've put a few hours into Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (bad name), based on a recommendation from Mattvisual on the Superbunnyhop Dad & Sons podcast.
It's a 2 person indie team's take on Final Fantasy Tactics (one of my favs going back to the original release). It's solid so far. Much higher quality than it sounds like it should be on paper. The animation style is more western, but the animations themselves, the level design, and especially the music, are very clearly based on FFT in a mostly good way.
So far, it gets my recommendation, with two caveats: while it's on sale now on Switch and probably on PC, the new DLC doubles the price, and it adds features that you need for the FFT-like experience, such as missions for non-active party members. Also, you can't rotate the camera, which can cause big problems, at least for me. An enemy in the very first battle went down an alley and I had no way to see them for a few crucial turns.
Still, pretty small complaints for a game that otherwise seems to beat expectations in almost every area!

Started playing The Last of Us yesterday with my wife. I really don't like the combat so far. The complete lack of any defensive actions like dodging or blocking makes any screw ups in stealth an instant restart basically. I also find the "Press Triangle to initiate a grab, THEN choose to press a choice of 2 buttons to select how you take them down in a stealth attack annoying. Because I keep reflexively hitting Square to try and do silent choke, but forget I have to Triangle it first. So instead of a stealth move I donkey punch them in the back of the head, letting everyone know where I am.

Story's just fine so far. My favorite bit so far:

Is when Ellie gets handcuffed by that one crazy dude we go to for a car, yanks herself free and proceeds to club him with the pipe end. Then tells him to go fuck himself if he thinks she's sorry for being pissed he HANDCUFFED her. I just loved how she was all prepared to be polite at first, even started to thank him for helping them, then he cuffs her, and she's like "ok nope, Nice Ellie has checked out, I'm officially going to tell you to fuck yourself at every opportunity, and have zero regret about it. "

That bit made me smile so much.

The game is good and is probably the closest tactics to reach the god tier level of FFT. But sadly the story is just bad, it has a bunch of "twist" that you can see coming from a million miles away, none of the character have any kind of arc and they're pretty flat as character goes.

As far as camera rotation, the game uses that and hide some treasuer chest "in plain sight" but you can't see them cause of the camera, so keep an eye on that. I didn't have the DLC when I played that but didn't really feel like I was missing the ability to send out some of my character on mission nor did I miss the monster (I never used monster in FFT anyway), there's also a character that can copy monster ability, so having monster in the party seems a bit redundant.
