Finished The Bridge. You beat the game and the game basically doubles with harder versions of the stages you've already beat, but these stages are uniformly egregious because they do a terrible job at explaining the new mechanics and they usually devolve into extremely finicky situations, like playing one of those water ring toss things.

Splatoon 3 - low-key something unavoidably old school primal about the winner needing to be the one who's liquids have spillaged across more surface area than your opponents - still it plays alright and there's single-player there for people who are able to decipher the menu options and start it. have yet to get used to the motion controls as of types though it feels doable. haven't played online cos haven't got online sub cos money n shit, but mark these words this situation may change!

I decided to give Specialist Difficulty a shot in Infinite Warfare. Wish me luck, because it is tough, but still easier than Veteran. I passed the first mission and in the middle of Mission 2.
Update: I am stuck on the third mission and I noticed there's a checkpoint issue or checkpoints not saving properly. It might be due to playing a PS4 game on a PS5. I might have to restart the mission. I am taking a break for now, and playing some Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX. I am doing so more Modern Warfare 2 and goofing around grabbing intel.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Wasn't able to resist the siren call of Killing Floor 3. Its pretty fun, guns feel good and are amazingly animated, blowing enemies away is really good, there are neat little side story objectives in each map, bosses are rough. Yeah, feels good man. So far I've only tried the sharpshooter, commando and engineer. I think the sharpshooter is my fav so far but commando is really good too. If you shoot most of the smaller enemies with one of the bigger sniper rifles then they get knocked back with a trail of blood, its hilarious, usually also get blown in half.

An interesting spot in Lies of P- the first real boss, the Scrapped Watchmen, the obvious early skill check. Well I was not quite getting the parries/guards/whatevers down enough to beat it but just for the heck of it tried the nearby summons character, which then completely trivialized the fight. So on the one hand I'm glad I got past this hurdle but on the other hand feel like I missed the learning opportunity to prepare me for the rest of the game.

Just a reminder of one thing that pisses me off about these kinds of games- the obscurity of it all. They really just expect us to read guides for these games and that just sucks.

I'm like 70% sure the intent is actually to get you to discuss your findings with your friends, build up an information network between you. There's a lot of games back in the day that were designed that way, like the original Legend of Zelda or The Tower of Druaga. It's just that the world being less personal these days, in order to get info from other people, you have to go to a wiki or to GameFAQs rather than actually sharing info with friends.

I restarted the mission, and all of the checkpoints are working like they're supposed to now. I don't understand how this happens when playing a AAA PS4 game on a PS5 that is supposed to be polished. The PS5 pop-up screen does give a heads up when playing Infinite Warfare on these new consoles, but it sucks they don't do anything to patch out possible glitches like this.

Before getting back, I did my third run of Devil's Dare. I got teenage ninja kid, and only died once. I got an even high score though, and he has some of the best combos in the game.

You could always call the Nintendo Tip-Line! Or wait for Nintendo Power to cover it.

Back to my Metroidvania/Soulslike haunts with Moonscars, an indie from a Ukrainian-Moldovan studio.

It's going for a creepy oil painting look and the messy brush stroke aesthetic pars really well with the 16-bit graphics. Feels like the Slavic answer to Blasphemous.

You get your pick from three random bonuses whenever you level up, but your level resets and the bonuses disappear when you die. Adds a neat roguelite spin to dying. Some of the more arcane features have you fighting your own doppelganger whenever you want to activate a new checkpoint/savespot, or corrupting your magic meter whenever you cast a spell. Apparently you can still heal with it but otherwise have to thwack enemies to get it back in shape.

Gameplay is very smooth and responsive. Fights can get overwhelming but you're invincible while parrying a single attack, which in turn damages anybody around you, very effective for crowd control. Always appreciate the ability to dash past enemies too.

You start out already decked with wall climbing and air dashing and most of the gating apparently comes from keys and levers and clearing cage fights. Again, very Blasphemous, but a bit faster paced and with more malleable movement.

Actually, the reason Tower of Druaga flopped in the West is because people didn't realize they were supposed to compare notes to figure out how to get and use all the items. Meanwhile, in Japan, where arcades would have guestbooks full of Druaga lore, it's considered a landmark influential title. And when it was re-released on Wiiware in 2009, everybody hated it because the only way to beat it was to look up a guide.

I think there's a Namco Museum release on either the DS or 3DS that puts a pre-made 'guestbook' on the bottom screen that fills out as you play so you can refer to it, too.

This is the first time I've heard of Tower of Druaga. An arcade game where you need to take notes is kind of an odd design. I'm not surprised it flopped on re-release, games that don't spell everything out for the player or give much guidance do pretty poorly for a modern audience. Most people don't have the patience to take notes and experiment. It's not that you need other people, it's just that you need to have patience.

Got some indie games to detox from Baldur's Gate 3, so I got Deltarune and Ruffy and the Riverside. Deltarune is very Undertale-ish. 🤷‍♂️ And Ruffy and the Riverside feels like a game I would've liked if not for the rather amaturistic manner it's cobbled together. Reminded me a bit of A Hat in Time.

Because I just love to hate my life; Returning to Dark Souls Remastered, but for 100% achievement.

The good news is that I am in NG 2+, which means I have most of the achievements done.

The bad news is that just for getting those last few achievements, I have to play through a significant part of the game, including annoying areas like blighttown or Sen's Fortress, just to get them.

There are certain areas in the game where the material required for the achievements can be accessed AFTER beating Ornstein and Smough. We are talking about NPC questlines, specific chests that contain spells and weapons, or enemies in that very specific area that has rare drop necessary for the achievements.

Weapon reinforcement and all-rare weapons achievement requires me to follow a very specific upgrade path, and they all require some rare materials for the final upgrade.

In future games (at least from DS3?) I know they ditched such ridiculous method. Hell, just trading boss souls for their weapon already was a huge improvement in DS2. I can now see just how much QoL improvements have been adding up across all these years. WE HAVE BEEN SPOILED.

For context, the only FS game that I got 100% on was Elden Ring, at around 173 hours mark. So far, I have 107 hours in DSR. While I don't think it's gonna take me as long as ER, at least in ER the rare drop farming wasn't as bad; DSR is slowly driving me insane....

Finished Jusant over the weekend.

Game has a great atmosphere, an interesting world and fun mechanics, however, we as the player only get to the world as all interesting things have already happened and we just read about things through letters than can be found around the place; you're just walking and climbing through desolate settlements.

You encounter a story of a character climbing up the massive tower they live on to search for a way to return the rain and seas, honestly, I would have rather played that person's adventure.

I get that it's easier for an indie game to just have you walking through an empty world and having you read about things and use your imagination to fill in the gaps, but dang did I want to spend more time in this world when it was still alive.

I absolutely adored Jusant. I didn't really care about the world that much and speed-read the notes, that wasn't the point of the game, it was about the climbing and how great that felt.

Paladin. STR/FTH split, w/ mace and miracles. I actually completed the build a long time ago, and now leveling up attributes for questlines and meeting min requirements for some gears

I didn’t realize just how OP mace was against knights; Makes farming against them so easy
