I don't believe blowing on the controller was used in any other games, at least none that I've played, and while touching different parts of the touchpad (split into left and right halves) is fairly common, sliding your finger on the touchpad is AFAIK only used as a keyboard input method, and in Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei.
Ok, that's good to hear. The blowing into the controller is a bit too "innovation for innovation's sake" for me. Feels like Sony is about two generations away from Mr. Garrison's IT Bike.

Playing evil genius 2

And its... kinda okay I guess? I never played the first one cause when I was a kid I only ever had enough money for a game once in awhile, and the first one was always just the 2nd thing I wanted the most behind something else. So I figured I'd try it now finally.

And its just not very complex. You build your evil base, but there's not really anything interesting to do with it, mostly you just build more of everything, placement and layout doesn't really matter. You have to defend against agent attacking you, but they're highligthed as soon as they show up and are pretty simple to defeat, its not like you need to make something specific for them or need complex trap, you can just do more of the same and it works just fine.

Otherwise you send team around the world to do little mission, but its very simple, you just click on it and it grab whatever minions it needs from your base. Minion all have traits, but their expanded super fast and there's not really anyway to specialize them specifically, and anyway to get killed or send on mission (where they never return) at a crazy high rate, so you never really care about them cause they don't stick around (I guess its fitting for the premise, but is not very interesting from a gameplay point of view).

The game also has some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard, which really kill any sort of fun goofy immersion into the setting. Its also not nearly clever or funny enough to work on this aspect.

So I dunno if its the sequel thats not that good or the first one was also meh, but perhaps young me was better off always spending his cash on something else.

Got my first PS5 Platinum trophy in Astro's Playroom. That makes, let me see, (carry the 1... divide by pi... account for the Earth's rotation and wind shear....) THREE Platinum trophies I've amassed since 2009. Please, please, hold your applause; I am not just a humble gamer of exceedingly rare talent, but I am a commoner like yourself, undeserving of the accolades you would shower upon me.

I've been meaning to play Control for years and just never got around to it. Seems like the perfect time now with the sequel coming out.

I'm currently about 3 hours in, and holy shit there's just so many collectables I feel like I'm not making any progress because I'm stopping to read a new document every 5 feet.

Cogwork Dancers is the most fun I've had fighting a boss in a pretty long time. It isn't a super hard fight (I beat it first try, with a few close calls), but it's just so much fun between the design of the boss, the music, and the pattern being deceptively tricky to avoid. And that last phase definitely caught me off guard a little.

Now I have a bunch of extra marks on my map, no clear path to reach them, and a bunch of unfinished sidequests that'll probably bring me in the vicinity of where I need to go. And still only 6 HP.

I didn't feel like committing to an entire new game and saw that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was included in PlayStation Plus so I decided to boot it up and go for an "easy trophy run" of it after having completed the PS4 version years ago and.... I forgot how annoying this game's combat can get against bigger enemies or large groups of enemies.

Half the time you're dodge-rolling out of the way of incoming attacks, a quarter of the time is you getting clippped by an attack and fucking rag-dolling across the screen and 20 percent is you having your aim disrupted by being hit and Aloy flinching and 5% of the time is you actually hitting your opponents.

Maybe it's because I jumped in cold and immediately decided to challenge one of the bigger DLC enemies but damn, this isn't much fun.
Also fuck the annoying inventory system, just give players an infinite amount of stuff to carry it isn't fun to have to eject shit from your inventory every time you kill an enemy and want to loot it.

My working relationship with Ranni has come to an end, as has my friendship with Blaidd, as her departure seems to have made him go insane. Apparently he was an enemy in her employ? It's weird and complicated and I am sad because I had to put him down.

Now I wonder: Do I continue on with this Elden Lord thing, or do I take that open invitation from Volcano Manor?

At least you get his armor set out of it, in a way continuing his work in spirit. The helm is behind Seluvis’s Rise though for some reason. The manor invite leads to some encounters with red phantoms but also some good gear. Plus, one of the best bosses in the game.

Recently tried Killer Instinct after initially not being able to get my DS4 to work with it on Steam. Now years later using a DualSense and on a new build, it works. Maybe Steam added better support or I missed something before, but in any case the game plays wonderfully. I wound up getting the Anniversary edition and while I’ve tried most of the characters already, mostly wound up playing Jago and Orchid. Also completed 15 of the 16 tutorials. Graphically it’s kinda long tooth, but the gameplay is more important anyways and they did a good job keeping the classic elements while expanding upon them in some interesting ways.

So Captain Wayne is awesome. Its a gzdoom based movement shooter. You don't have a dash, but your kick will rocket you across the level. Its fast, frantic, has some great level design, great weapons, unique art style, and much more playable then I was expecting from that combination.

It's a bit too heavy for me to wear the whole thing, but I do have the gauntlets and leggings on. Also I'm nowhere near smart enough to use the blade.

I have no idea what happened to Seluvis. Not that I miss the jerk, but it's weird.

Advancing Ranni's quest to a certain point (giving her the Fingerslayer blade) causes him to go kaput.

Never seen anyone mention it before, influencer or otherwise, I can't be the only person to know this exists, surely??
I've had the steam page for the game bookmarked for a year or so after playing Dome Keeper, but haven't ever gotten around to it.
That said, it is my sincerest hope that six-axis control, the touchpad, controller speaker, and for God's sake blowing on the controller are niche gimmicks used sparingly in games where they're even remotely appropriate, i.e.: casual games/games designed specifically for those utilities; I'm not trying to "blow" werewolves in Blooborne.
Come on, everybody loves blowing in mics, that's why so many developers made it a feature in DS games.

It's a lot easier to get platinum trophies than it used to be. A lot of games will give it to you for simply playing the game all the way through in a somewhat thorough manner. Nier: Automata even let you buy any trophies you were missing with in game currency that piled up and had no other good use.

Nintendo had a mandate during the DS era, I don't know for exactly how long, that games for the Nintendo DS strictly had to use its functionality to the greatest extent, even if it didn't really fit what the developers were doing otherwise. Which is how we got the Magic Seals in Dawn of Sorrow, among other things.

Ah, Nintendo. They literally don't know how to do anything right except make good games.

OT: Made quite a lot of progress in Silksong. I defeated Lace 2 (as seen in the very first trailer), which is like if Eigong was frustrating and unpredictable instead of fun and learnable, and she wasn't even the final boss so I can't even imagine what that's going to be like. Speaking of, I found something that looks suspiciously like a final boss room, but I didn't go in there yet. Besides having only 6 HP at the time, I was still missing an upgrade that felt like it had to exist. Checking to see if it did (the first thing that I broke and looked up so far in this playthrough) also told me its location.

So I went up Mount Celeste and got the double jump, which has unlocked a few extra places to check out for potential mask upgrades or other useful options, as well as clues towards the true ending which I have been spoiled on the existence of. That's for next session. The platforming section wasn't that bad, but putting you on a timer for platforming sections you haven't seen before is a little bit of a dick move.

also i have 7 hp masks now yay

Beat Mina the Hollower. Overall I quite enjoyed it, but its one of those games with a really rough start. The twin daggers was probably a really bad choice as a starting weapon, the game offers you pretty much no tutorial, its easy to miss extremely useful upgrades to your hideout that make the game much more enjoyable (like a map) and the initial difficulty is pretty high till you get some levels and health boosts. But once you get some trinkets and slots and kinda figure things out and get the fucken map, it becomes much more enjoyable.

Also beat Captain Wayne, its not the longest gzdoom based shooter but its damn good and I still have a kinda arena roguelite mode thing to do.

Finished Lost Ruins. There's a half-decent game underneath a lot of off-putting choices that make it hard to sell or recommend.

  • It's probably too pervy for most people yet not nearly ribald enough to qualify as an ecchi game.
  • It's presented more or less earnestly as a horror game, like Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, but quickly folds back into camp.
  • It's incredibly hard if you go in treating it like a regular action platformer, but the survival elements are also pretty threadbare and easy to exploit.

Ultimately the appeal of the game is finding good synergies to trivialize what's an otherwise fairly hostile and punishing experience. You're slow, weak, ungainly and pack a treacherous hitbox. The game wants you to basically roll past and outrun most enemies (no contact damage anyway) until you hit a good synergy, but rarely if ever directs you towards any. You can eventually break the game to the point blocking nets MP and casting heals HP, or you can cast a spell with an MP cashback that heals upon kill, or just rocket launcher through the final stretch of bosses. Probably fun for challenge runs and speedruns once you know how to play and where to go and what to avoid.

There's a fine line between "cringey weeb shit" and "knowingly camp". Most bosses are big titty monster girls with DoA jiggle physics who're out to ground pound you with them whoppers, and they drop their bras and panties as rewards. But then you meet two zombie schoolgirls who entrust you to return their stolen dakimakura to them, or an NPC named Lusty who wants her stolen sausage back. Up to you.
